Small correction. The original Rumba came from slaves deportes from the Kongo Kingdom. There it was called Nkumba. Which was difficult to prononce so they called it cumbia then Rumba. The first Cuban rumba orchestra was creates by a slave descendant who was Congolese. From then people started to make their own sauce of it but the dancing, the singing and live music is originally from the Kongo Kingdom (Nkumba with body contact for married couples and Kulomba without body contact for singles (before marriage)
I’m glad to see that someone in the ballroom dance industry is humble enough to embrace the actual roots of the pre-evolution of a ballroom dance. I have been teaching since 1977, and I haven’t seen anyone embrace the starting point as eloquently as you have in this video. I am currently studying the history of the music of Cuba and that is what led me to your video. Thanks again.

The rumba from Congo was actually inspired by the genre 'Cuban son ' so Alexey is ok 😁
If you’re dancing to caribbean music you’re dancing to the drum and the bass, which is embodied in one instrument; the marimbula aka the rhumba box in Jamaica.

Well, talking about Pierre, you forgot to put in Walter Laird. From learning from Pierre's excursions to Cuba which led to the codification of International Rumba, after Laird found out Pierre's findings, he put International Rumba further, especially when he danced with Lorraine Reynolds.
Eventually, Laird was coined as "the guru of Modern Rumba technique", and penned at least one technique book in not only International Rumba, but also the other 4 dances he was great at in International Latin - Paso, Jive, Cha-Cha, and the Samba.
Beyond-syllabus and open-style choreography displays in competitive Rumba dancers try to enhance the characterizations required in the rumba dance. And still used in dancesport Latin events today. Some of the choreo tricks include....
1. Cantilever stretches
2. Death drops
3. Fan position stretches
4. Floor drags
5. Deep dips
6. Vertical splits/side splits/developpes
7. Opposition break stretches
8. Use of "guapacha" in even syllabus figures
9. Arabesque stretches
10. Deep lunges
11. Continuous spins
12. Chasing techniques
13. Shadow position lines, stretches and freezes
14. Kiki walks, including any variations/developments of that
And finally, wherever possible where you can do them without risk of disqualification, lifts and aerials like you see in theatrical arts dancing can also be done in rumba. But just make sure such lifts in rumba are permissible before you do them competitively. (Showcase rumba routines generally do allow for lifts without restrictions.)
Fortunately, Alexey, I was also schooled in African-American history, not just ballroom, and it is sad that the oppression of Black slaves in Cuba as part of the development of an exciting, romantic, albeit slow Latin dance had to be revealed here. I feel sorry for those oppressed ones.

Actually RUMBA came from AFRICA more specific KINGDOM of CONGO ( DR Congo x Congo x Angola x southern Gabon) by the SLAVES who were deported to Mantazas CUBA.

You glossed over the most important part: vacationing european dance teachers copied down some steps from Son Cubano after the "only dance teacher on the island" (doubtful) didn't even want to teach them and told them to just "go to the nightclubs". They got the name of the dance wrong, had transcription errors in their steps and made up their own names for them, and taught the dance in europe and made themselves the authority on how the dance should be danced, instead of the original culture being the authority. Now people dance "rumba" with straight knees and turned out toes. And the same happened to all of the dances.

Rumba is a mispronounciation of the kongo word Nkumba it's a sensual dance between a man and a woman rubbing their navil..rumba came from Kongo
Your history is wrong. Rumba originated from Congo. Afro-Cuban bands used to play in Congo and they took rumba and popularize it.
They were not African slaves, they were enslaved Africans. There is a difference.
