I really liked where you pointed out what you wished was different about you solo. I liked it because you weren’t overly critical, it was more like you were giving yourself friendly feedback on how you want to grow. I’d love to see more of that, learning to analyze my own playing without hating it is a skill I’m always trying to work on!
Thank you for going through the pentatonic elevator idea. one of the places I have a lot of room to grow as a lead is bridging lower and higher sections, gaining fluidity between the two. I’ll definitely play around with this kind of idea
I read a interview with John Coltrane from circa 1960. He said he felt he was concerned with the local level of the solo, exploring immediate motifs rather than thinking about the total solo. I suspect he said that as a detriment to his improvisations and I relate to that locality in my own creative work. I found some inspiration in your approach to the total solo, and I would like to think about the total for awhile
Would love love for you to keep making videos like this. I think your phrasing and scalar choices (?) are quite unique and it's useful to see you think out loud first in an improvised musical way and then as a first-impression analysis.
This gives me inspiration to go home and try to do the same thing after work, or at the very least it makes me want to go practice some. Your playing is so expressive, very communicative and fun to listen to
So cool to get this kinda insight into your thought processes Ben!! And thanks for using my track, what a treat👌🎸

I love "crumbly octave" as a term. Your descriptions of things are unique yet I often really relate/understand what you mean :D
