  • When it comes to selecting a sweat shield for a holster, personal preference and individual needs play a significant role. However, I can provide you with an overview of common sweat shield options and their advantages to help you make an informed decision.
Full Sweat Shield: A full sweat shield extends the entire length of the rear of the holster, covering the back of the slide and the rear sights unless it has a red dot cut. It provides the maximum coverage and protection against sweat, body oils, and clothing rubbing against the firearm. The full sweat shield can also enhance comfort by preventing direct contact between the gun and your body. It can also be the least comfortable option if it isn't designed right.
Partial Sweat Shield: A partial sweat shield, also known as a mid-height sweat shield, covers only a portion of the back of the slide and usually ends just below the rear sights. It offers a balance between protection and ease of reholstering. This option can be suitable if you want some coverage while still allowing for a smooth draw and reholstering process. The reduced height of the sweat shield also helps in reducing the overall bulkiness of the holster.
No Sweat Shield: Some holsters do not have a sweat shield, which means there is no additional material covering the back of the slide. This design may provide the most straightforward draw and reholstering experience, but it offers minimal protection against sweat and body oils.
Ultimately, the best sweat shield option depends on your gun and the design of the sweat shield. It can be helpful to try different holster styles and sweat shield configurations to determine which one works best for you.

I like a high sweat shield that kinda curves around the rear sight. The sights i use have sharp edges, so having a guard between them and my side is the difference between having to or not having to wear an under shirt.

A hammer fired pistol, without a full length sweat shield, will be more uncomfortable than the sweat shield digging into you.

I prefer low or mid while carrying, however for me what makes the biggest concern for me is when the gun is out and running around getting into and put of things, over, under, etc. No sweatshield is ideal or low. Anything more then that without the gun present tends to be a thin piece of kydex jabbing you. While the gun is holstered, it isn't noticeable as the support of the slide is there and much bigger profile. Everyone is different, but I'm definitely no or low guard.

I prefer high to mid because I can use my thumb to push down on the sweatshield of the holster while drawing to create a push force that counters the pull force of drawing the gun. Makes the draw smoother because it helps keep the holster stationary.
