Thanks for this Lucas, very informative. I too grow black cherry tomatoes very successfully here in London, UK, they’re delicious! I make my own fertiliser from banana peel or comfrey. One comment, your stretchy plant tie looks like it’s plastic - do correct me if it’s not, but this stuff is around for thousands of years if it is. Thanks Lucas, SO GLAD I found this video and the link to Johnny's Selected Seeds. been wanting to buy larger quantities so I can pot/sell them and also grow them for sale at the farmers market, that will be next year. Your video was great. Good job. Relatives have grown sun gold and suggested them to me, this will be my first year growing them.
@@lucasgrowsbestyt use Craigslist or, do it garage sale style. Point is if you do want to sell them all you should have to do is try, even a little and people will respond. You can talk to some restaurants. I'd bet the smaller ones would buy "on the spot" from you. No official farmers market? Start one. Find a business with a decent size parking lot and arrange for some dates to have sales. Then advertise this on craigslist so you get customers and growers showing up. then have fun. Make it tail gate style. Just put all the cars in 2 rows with tail gates or trunks facing towards each other with 20 ft between them. Every one pops the trunk or lowers the tail gate and the sale is on. After it is all done there is no clean up, the sellers just drive away. No clean up problems that way. If you did want to start a larger garden I bet you could find a large plot of ground not being used and gain permission to plant a garden there. House in your area with large section of unused ground? Talk to them. It would make a great CZcams video project also. Lots of people interested in gardening for profit, how much could you make? how much work would it be, and, how much did you make after it is all over with? I think one of the secrets would be to talk to a lot of restaurants, smaller ones and arrange to grow for them. That would take care of a lot of sales and also possibly suggest what you might grow, what the restaurants are interested in. If it is successful your video would get a lot of views and you could end the project at that point or do it next year at the same level or even scale it up if you wanted to. Lot of $$ to be made or there would not be any big farms with thousands of acres.
Because of all the hype, I grew Sungold this year and even though the taste was okay the splitting really turned me off. I won’t be growing them again. I’ll stay with the super sweet 100!
Tommytoe is my best cherry tomato . It’s a heirloom and has been voted best tasting tomato.I have grown it for years and never failed me. I have also grown black cherry too but tommytoe tastes better ! I’ll be growing sungold this year too in Melbourne Australia.
Thanks for telling us about the Sungold and the Black Cherry Tomatoes! We can't wait to buy some plants. Have a great Summer and thank you for this great video!
These were the exact three that I picked up this year. I didn't know they could get that tall. I have only ever caged them but after seeing this I'm going to ask my landlord if I can borrow his veranda frame to stake the vines up as high as they will go.
I only grow a couple of varieties of cherry tomatoes. My favourite red is Sweet Millions and my other is either Sungold or Sun Sugar. I had been growing Sungold but just buying a plant and wasn’t able to find any. But I found a Sun Sugar and liked it so much that I’m growing it again this year.
The problem with black cherry tomato in my zone 5, upstate NY is that it takes forever to ripen. Superweet 100 and Sun Gold are normally already producing loads of tomatoes for a few weeks when black cherry just becomes ready to harvest.
Thanks for video. very informative. I grow cascading types in a trough or basket, that you don't need to pinch out. The tastiest we have found are called Lizzano.
Hey man, you need to build you a sturdy/ secure over head trellis at 8ft. Get some Tomahooks and bailing twine. Use vine clips, hard prune like you are and use a lower and lean technique to train. Youll add 30% to your harvest and you wont have 10 ft plants overhead.
Didn’t know of this technique, thank you for mentioning it. When I saw his tomatoes I was thought they would look great on a wide rose trellis to shade the car parking lot. That is a technique my dad uses with grape vines. They get sun, the car gets shade, pick the fruits up from below. Or to grow them vertically on the side of my house, I could pick them up from the first floor. I don’t think they would get this tall in a ceramic pot however. Another idea I had for some of my spare tomatoes was to grow them next to a rambling rose and use its canes for support. I’ll do that this summer. It seems roses greatly benefit from having toms nearby. The house bricks might get too hot in direct sun and burn the plant. We’ll see, I guess.
I was under the impression cherry tomatoes were short lived , But I must have been told wrong. Just raised Honey Gold Hybrid and are they flavor bombs,, plenty of early and late season I think frost might not stop them I have Brad's Atomic grape and that's the top favorite tomato in my garden. Have the 1,000,000 on order and a few others. I planted a 35' row of the salad tomatoe next season. Love your pics and we should seek more favorite veggies Thank you for the teaching Sir
I'm nervous for the bamboo. I'm yet to start my tomatoes since it's been rainy here in the Philippines. I wish there's more variety of cherry tomatoes here. Good job for you lad
Good job! I wish I could grow those varieties here in the Philippines. I dont think they would widstand the rain. Im trying micro dwarves from the US right now because I think theyre more manageable. Keep it up! Thanks for the info.
Do you have any fertilizing secrets? Your tomatoes look gorgeous while mine always struggle. I try to do the normal of pruning bottom 1-2 feet, remove suckers, bottom water, but no matter what I seem to lose so many plants entirely to blights or fungus and bottom leaves going super yellow and plenty of flower drops. Yours almost seem perfect.
Lucas I have similar favorite tomatoes. The sungold, chocolate cherry (which is probably like your black cherry) and sakura are my three favorites. Amazing how your tomatoes crew this year. Looking good man.
Sakura is really great. I grow Sakura, sun gold and black cherry in Southern California. Sakura can grow to 30-50 feet over 1.5 years😂😂😂 we keep harvest in winter. Black cherry easily gets powder mildew
My tomato's suckers that i cloned, are Getting ripe Now, It's like a second crop growing. They got like 2 more months growth on the clones, over the tomato's from seeds. So they grow fast, with a new crop! Transplant them suckers off tomato's ITS WORTH IT ! Pepper branches to
My favorite cherry tomato is Mexico midget, they are sweet and the plant produces heavily. I had two volunteers pop up in my garden so I put a cage around them they grew 6 ft to the top of the cage another 2 ft in the air and came back down another 8 ft to the ground and ran off about 5 ft, so that plan would have been about 21 ft tall? LOL Atomic grape I know it's not a cherry but it's another prolific purple tomato that I love and of course the sweet 100. I'm going to try the black cherry, love the video. There's only two things that money can't buy, that's true love and homegrown tomatoes, homegrown tomatoes, home gone tomatoes, What would life be without a homegrown tomatoes.
I have heard of Mexican Midget but never grown it, sure sounds like the plant is no midget! The cherries look pretty small, are they? I have heard of Brad's Atomic Grape and it looks pretty cool, might have to give it a try sometime. And you're correct, nothing like a fresh homegrown 'mater!
Golden nugget determinate is a nice plant especially for a pot or grow bag. Just transplant a couple times, aggressively burying as much of the stem as possible before putting it in it's final home.
I have grown the black cherry and I used a tomato cage. It went wild. Got very big. Highly recommend it.
Supersweet 100, unlike large fruit tomato varieties, doesn't suffer in production from suckering - i gave 2 plants a whole raised bed with a net trellis to occupy, and every sucker is loaded. Super sweet 100 is the best one....planted it couple years ago and had huge bunches of tomatoes.
They are highly productive!
Did you prune and was it in container or garden
I just have apt patio
I’d love a video showing detailed sucker cutting. I never know how to identify which one is a sucker and which is the main stalk.
Take a look at this, you might find it helpful: czcams.com/video/yfZ9jfrWcSY/video.html

Sungold is my absolute favorite!
Mine too!
Tommytoe is my best cherry tomato . It’s a heirloom and has been voted best tasting tomato.I have grown it for years and never failed me. I have also grown black cherry too but tommytoe tastes better ! I’ll be growing sungold this year too in Melbourne Australia.
Hi, curious on what you think of sun-sugars compared to favourite?
Thanks for telling us about the Sungold and the Black Cherry Tomatoes! We can't wait to buy some plants. Have a great Summer and thank you for this great video!
Excellent video. I haven't seen your other videos as yet but I wonder jf you have videos on planting and caging
Thanks Douglas! Yes there are some videos about just that on the channel… do some exploring!
These were the exact three that I picked up this year. I didn't know they could get that tall. I have only ever caged them but after seeing this I'm going to ask my landlord if I can borrow his veranda frame to stake the vines up as high as they will go.
good video, informative and helpfull, I am going to get some black cherry seeds now,
kev, north queensland, australia
I only grow a couple of varieties of cherry tomatoes. My favourite red is Sweet Millions and my other is either Sungold or Sun Sugar. I had been growing Sungold but just buying a plant and wasn’t able to find any. But I found a Sun Sugar and liked it so much that I’m growing it again this year.
Great Video
The problem with black cherry tomato in my zone 5, upstate NY is that it takes forever to ripen. Superweet 100 and Sun Gold are normally already producing loads of tomatoes for a few weeks when black cherry just becomes ready to harvest.
Thanks for video. very informative.
I grow cascading types in a trough or basket, that you don't need to pinch out.
The tastiest we have found are called Lizzano.
You're welcome! I have never tried cascading tomatoes but I would like to at some point.
I have like 4 of the super sweet this year, yum. I’m also trying the black cherry I think one pulled through
That's awesome Summer! Best of luck to you 😀🍅
Long live sir. Watching u from Bangladesh 🇧🇩💚. It’s looking so much pleasing.
What kind of fertilizer do you use? And what kind of bug spray do you use? What do you expect?
30 seconds in I was like... This is gonna be good
Me too!
Indigo drop cherry amazing - simular to the Black Cherry but even better😊
I like the taste of CAMPARI TOMATOES I buy. I have seeds to plant next spring in SOUTHEAST ALA. I hope they do well.
Best of luck!
Total failure with tomatoes in 2023. Pepper were the stars last year. cukes did fair.
Alk pote peacevine🍅🍅🍅 very good
wow so so beautiful .and the way u grown tomatoes are absolutely amazing..keep it up ..
I was under the impression cherry tomatoes were short lived , But I must have been told wrong.
Just raised Honey Gold Hybrid and are they flavor bombs,, plenty of early and late season I think frost might not stop them
I have Brad's Atomic grape and that's the top favorite tomato in my garden.
Have the 1,000,000 on order and a few others.
I planted a 35' row of the salad tomatoe next season.
Love your pics and we should seek more favorite veggies
Thank you for the teaching Sir
I'm nervous for the bamboo. I'm yet to start my tomatoes since it's been rainy here in the Philippines. I wish there's more variety of cherry tomatoes here. Good job for you lad
Thanks Marivic! What do you mean you are nervous for the bamboo?
Good job! I wish I could grow those varieties here in the Philippines. I dont think they would widstand the rain. Im trying micro dwarves from the US right now because I think theyre more manageable.
Keep it up!
Thanks for the info.
Hey, whatever works! :)
Bro, taga Philippines ako, malabo ba tumubo yung mga cherry na black cherry and sungold at superseeet 100 dito saten
Hi! How'd you get the seeds po? :)
WOW LOTS AND LOTS !!
I'm surprised you did not have "sun sugar" tomatoes , as one of your favorites. They are the sweetest of all the cherry tomatoes.
Lucas I have similar favorite tomatoes. The sungold, chocolate cherry (which is probably like your black cherry) and sakura are my three favorites.
Amazing how your tomatoes crew this year. Looking good man.
Thanks Allen! Haven't tried the Chocolate Cherry or Sakura, I'll have to look into it.
Thanks!
You’re welcome Suzie!
Always grow sweet 100! My other one is Sun sugar :)
That's awesome Lee! I've never tried Sun Sugar but I've heard good things about it!
Lee H which is more delicious? Sun sugar or sweet 100
I grew 3 tomatoes this year. My top 3 are:
1. Smashed and Grabbed Black
2. Sucker Punch Black
3. Blizzard Buffalo Looting Black
Best ever from taste
Look great ... like your garden 🌸
thank you for sharing. now i have an idea what is the taste of sun gold variety. i am going to plant different varieties of tomatoes also
Great! Hope it works out well for you!
there is an orange cherry the same flavor as sun gold but with more crack resistant.
Interesting, what is it called?
@@lucasgrowsbestyt Its called "Golden Cherry", I'm growing it for the first time this year, along side the Sungold.
GREAT VDEO LUCUS KEEP THEM COMING.
Should be called SunGOAT!!
The hand gestures 😆
thank you. I will try these
