    Supersweet 100, unlike large fruit tomato varieties, doesn't suffer in production from suckering - i gave 2 plants a whole raised bed with a net trellis to occupy, and every sucker is loaded. Very pest resistant variety, doesn't give any problems, even in our problematic Florida climate! And the taste is really super sweet 🤠👍

      Hey Osho! You're right, it's not necessary to prune. I just like the single stemmed look and the fact that it increases airflow in the garden. Cheers!

    I have some cherry tomatoes that seem to grow wild in my garden every year so I have never looked up the name of the variety. But they require no pesticides and seem to withstand tough weather conditions(except heavy rainfall) unlike the larger tomatoes. Watching from Kenya and thank you for sharing.

      i live in Kentucky USA and i have a variety called Sweetie that has naturalized in an onion/garlic patch. I do well to try and control it. I love the flavor and apparently so do the squirrels .

    Your tomatoes are the most beautiful tomatoes on youtube. My landlord also grows a few tomatoes, but he never prunes the branches or erects supports. His tomato branches are lying on the ground in a mess, but your tomatoes are like a work of art! Everyone who grows tomatoes should watch your video.

      I grew sungold and supersweet 100's too. Both had huge yields I believe bcuz I didn't prune other than some leaves for airflow and if leaves yellowed. I'm still eating last year's frozen of both varieties.
      I learned last year that a huge container made a big difference or a large space if in ground for root development. This year I subbed 100's with Black Cherry. Excited for them. 😁

    Thank you for such a great review of these varieties!
    I have grown the Super Sweet 100 for years… and probably will for the rest of my life. I always let it grow into a 6’ tall x 6’ wide monster that makes more tomatoes than my family can eat. I prune it until it gets a foot or two off of the ground… then let it do it’s thing until frost every year. An amazing cultivar!!!
    Growing Sun Gold for the first time this year. Planning on doing the same thing.
    Happy Gardening!!!
    I am going to make this the year of the tomato for my family. Almost done with the garden expansio… and will have 16 plants growing on four 16’L x 5’T cattle panel trellises.
    The heavy producers will be Celebrity, Bella Rosa, and Red Snapper.
    Then some Chefs Choice Pink and Black Krim for flavor.

    My neighborhood nursery has Sweet Million tomatoes. They are a small cherry type tomato, and really do taste so sweet !!! A bonus is that I usually have several to volunteer the next year! The color of the Black Cherry you are growing looks like my Cherokee Purple heirloom tomatoes. This is a full size variety. I’m growing it for the first time this year and, right now, one plant has 15 + tomatoes on it ripening, with more blooms coming! Can’t wait until they get ripe!!!! Happy growing everyone!

    There's a real art and many variables involved but if u can be patient and wait til your tomatoes are fully ripened on the vine you will be rewarded. I see many people especially early in the summer harvesting too early. Most cherry varieties flavor profile are greatly enhanced if you allow them that extra day or two to fully ripen on the vine.

    These are the healthiest looking tomatoes I’ve ever seen! What are you feeding them?

    • @serenemountain6769
      @serenemountain6769 Před 4 lety +9

      i feed my tomatoes with natural composting,
      woodchips, bush sticks, green or dry, i collect from trees or from the ground, leafs, green or dry , even hay, and kitchen vegetable wastes, all placed around my crop plants, covering the earth !
      (also prevents the growing of weeds, great bonus hey)
      The insects will do the composting for me, all naturally, enriching the soil...
      i'm always adding biomass to the soil, if you feed the soil, you feed the plants.
      Also i use Natural Liquid Compost !
      How to make it, simple pick any vegetable you have, from your kitchen scraps, put it on a bucket filled with water, let it decompose for 24 hours.
      Your plants will love it.
      You will have great crops using these techniques,
      10 times more wield then the ones found in this video.

    • @jeil5676
      @jeil5676 Před 3 lety

      @@angelsuniverse6021 You could, without pruning to a single vine you could still get good production. You could also guide the vines along a trellis laterally if vertical space is your only concern. These plants will sprawl along the ground if left on their own but that can present other problems with space, sunlight, etc.

    • @robert5
      @robert5 Před 4 lety

      @@lucasgrowsbestyt use Craigslist or, do it garage sale style. Point is if you do want to sell them all you should have to do is try, even a little and people will respond. You can talk to some restaurants. I'd bet the smaller ones would buy "on the spot" from you. No official farmers market? Start one. Find a business with a decent size parking lot and arrange for some dates to have sales. Then advertise this on craigslist so you get customers and growers showing up. then have fun. Make it tail gate style. Just put all the cars in 2 rows with tail gates or trunks facing towards each other with 20 ft between them. Every one pops the trunk or lowers the tail gate and the sale is on. After it is all done there is no clean up, the sellers just drive away. No clean up problems that way.
      If you did want to start a larger garden I bet you could find a large plot of ground not being used and gain permission to plant a garden there. House in your area with large section of unused ground? Talk to them. It would make a great CZcams video project also. Lots of people interested in gardening for profit, how much could you make? how much work would it be, and, how much did you make after it is all over with? I think one of the secrets would be to talk to a lot of restaurants, smaller ones and arrange to grow for them. That would take care of a lot of sales and also possibly suggest what you might grow, what the restaurants are interested in. If it is successful your video would get a lot of views and you could end the project at that point or do it next year at the same level or even scale it up if you wanted to. Lot of $$ to be made or there would not be any big farms with thousands of acres.

    I grow cascading types in a trough or basket, that you don't need to pinch out.
    The tastiest we have found are called Lizzano.

    Hey man, you need to build you a sturdy/ secure over head trellis at 8ft. Get some Tomahooks and bailing twine. Use vine clips, hard prune like you are and use a lower and lean technique to train. Youll add 30% to your harvest and you wont have 10 ft plants overhead.

    • @oana1111
      @oana1111 Před 4 lety

      Didn’t know of this technique, thank you for mentioning it. When I saw his tomatoes I was thought they would look great on a wide rose trellis to shade the car parking lot. That is a technique my dad uses with grape vines. They get sun, the car gets shade, pick the fruits up from below. Or to grow them vertically on the side of my house, I could pick them up from the first floor. I don’t think they would get this tall in a ceramic pot however. Another idea I had for some of my spare tomatoes was to grow them next to a rambling rose and use its canes for support. I’ll do that this summer. It seems roses greatly benefit from having toms nearby. The house bricks might get too hot in direct sun and burn the plant. We’ll see, I guess.

    I was under the impression cherry tomatoes were short lived , But I must have been told wrong.
    Just raised Honey Gold Hybrid and are they flavor bombs,, plenty of early and late season I think frost might not stop them
    I have Brad's Atomic grape and that's the top favorite tomato in my garden.
    Have the 1,000,000 on order and a few others.
    I planted a 35' row of the salad tomatoe next season.
    Love your pics and we should seek more favorite veggies
    Thank you for the teaching Sir

    Do you have any fertilizing secrets? Your tomatoes look gorgeous while mine always struggle. I try to do the normal of pruning bottom 1-2 feet, remove suckers, bottom water, but no matter what I seem to lose so many plants entirely to blights or fungus and bottom leaves going super yellow and plenty of flower drops. Yours almost seem perfect.

      Sakura is really great. I grow Sakura, sun gold and black cherry in Southern California. Sakura can grow to 30-50 feet over 1.5 years😂😂😂 we keep harvest in winter. Black cherry easily gets powder mildew

    My favorite cherry tomato is Mexico midget, they are sweet and the plant produces heavily. I had two volunteers pop up in my garden so I put a cage around them they grew 6 ft to the top of the cage another 2 ft in the air and came back down another 8 ft to the ground and ran off about 5 ft, so that plan would have been about 21 ft tall? LOL Atomic grape I know it's not a cherry but it's another prolific purple tomato that I love and of course the sweet 100. I'm going to try the black cherry, love the video. There's only two things that money can't buy, that's true love and homegrown tomatoes, homegrown tomatoes, home gone tomatoes, What would life be without a homegrown tomatoes.

    • @lucasgrowsbestyt
      @lucasgrowsbestyt  Před rokem

      I have heard of Mexican Midget but never grown it, sure sounds like the plant is no midget! The cherries look pretty small, are they? I have heard of Brad's Atomic Grape and it looks pretty cool, might have to give it a try sometime. And you're correct, nothing like a fresh homegrown 'mater!

    Golden nugget determinate is a nice plant especially for a pot or grow bag. Just transplant a couple times, aggressively burying as much of the stem as possible before putting it in it's final home.
