Who better to show you how to play “Oleo” than Zane Carney himself! From Zane: “I wanted to reach out with a new single, a reimagined ‘Oleo,’ from my jazz quartet record Alter Ego which will be released on April 30 on Orenda Records.
‘Oleo’ revisits the classic melody with an absurdist chromatic twist, before giving way to a tenor sax/guitar battle that borders on free-jazz at times. A fiery, uptempo, bombastic release by Zane Carney Quartet.“

That’s pretty funny!, when I play 50’s/60’s jazz, I get my jazz tone from an HH tele with a ceramic neck pickup and use an old LANEY combo amp (LC-50 with a Celestion 12” bc the stock speaker was nasty) on the drive channel with very mild distortion from the 12ax7/6L6 lineup.. and it works great with right EQ. 👍. All because I couldn’t muster up the cash for the jazz guitar I always wanted.. but I’m not missing a thing, it does the trick for me😉.
It doesn’t work as well on three other solid body electric guitar I own..🤣

@@ZaneCarney lol no actually I’m old and I hack on a few different instruments, just for fun here, while I still can. It gets harder with age when health issues come to play.😩
I haven’t done videos or editing, and haven’t dabbled in recording in quite a while. Never tried to play Oleo, probably why I checked out the video. Your Tele and associated speak caught my funny bone. I like stuff from the late 50’s, like Grant Green. Love that tone! When I was young, my electric guitar playing consisted of mostly classic rock, hence the existing equipment. Think I might have an old Miles recording with Oleo on it. Anyway, cheers.. keep doing what makes you happy😉
