Have you consciously chosen not to use mudguards, if so why?

We took them off because we wanted to increase the tyre size from 700x40 to 700x47 and they wouldn't fit with those tyres. The tyre change has been awesome, just what we needed for the off-road and no real difference on the road. We don't miss the mudguards either as the bags stop most of the spray, although Tom's just fitted a small one to the back tyre.
