The fact Free League felt the need to release what they seemingly intended as its own game as also a setting supplement for D&D 5e is a saddening indicator of the industry landscape at the time of release, but it is not something I begrudge them for doing. For indies 'whatever keeps the lights on' tends to be a good way of going.

After almos 10 yeas Symbaroum was finally officially launched in my native Language and I got the Core Rulebook in Hardback in august 2023. I am pretty aware that the layout of the book is pretty messy, people have complained about it many times; but It is still a beatyfull book with awesome art like any other Free League product.
What I really love about Symbaroum, aside from the setting "Princess Mononoke meets Game of Thrones" is It's system: you get the same feel and gameplay narrative results of a gritty lethal game like Warhammer Fantasy Role-Play, with far quicker and elegant rules.
And the corruption magic system. I simply love corruption magic systems or any sort of magic system that comes with a cost that's not only mana or "Spell Slots".
    Great Game, Good Review.
As allways: your channel is shining beacon to the hobby for you talk so much about other systems that people should try out and see what else this hobby has to offer instead of just sticking to D&D. Thank you so much.

Thanks for the review! Symbaroum is a fun game, my group had a lot of fun with it for about a year of on-off play.
The setting is definitely the strength but I think the system is fun, the only downside is a lack of social abilities in such a political game.
I'd note about the flat damage, most characters are rolling an armor die to reduce damage so that does make it a bit more variable.

I love the art for this one, and the setting sounds like it could be fun. I just already have so many Fantasy RPGs, including two others from Free League, and Fantasy isn't really my genre. Still, it does look cool.

This looks like another fine Free League product, although I came into Free League fandom recently, so I have Forbidden Lands, Dragonbane, and the One Ring. I’m not sure I have mental or shelf space for another fantasy game with a detailed background, in either version of the rules. (Off topic, the unicorn tapestry dress is a nice FRPG touch.)

Thank you for reviewing the original Symbaroum and not the unfortunate D&D version

I just picked this up as part of free leagues summer sale. I’ve been looking forward to it after looking through the free quick start. It is a shame about the dark forest as that is what I look forward to the most. I assume it is left out as it is a mess mysterious land to allow the gm to develop as they see fit. Love the art and layout as always with free league

One of Free League's best, for sure.

I like Symbaroum , like the opportunity to play asa changeling and it makes sense to me that they made a Symbaroum which utilises the rules for 5e , given the reach of five e it would get eyes on to Symbaroum and potentially other Free league games also .

  • @samurguybriyongtan146

I’m now more interested in this. The title felt like a horror game, so I skipped it.

@@dzmitry_k Maybe she thinks it will increase her viewer count? I don't really know why. You'd have to ask her. It's definitely fake, though.

She is an Aussie. What accent?

@@1001DLW Maybe I was wrong. Perhaps this is a case where someone spends so much time online that their native accent starts to fade and they start sounding more American. The same thing happened with Scottish Louise of Rogue Hobbies. Many such cases.
