Ok Matthew, we have to admit, we are throwing a BBQ today displaying the video with a Projector screen in loop mode :) Thank you for sharing the love, and for your honest feedback !
Two videos in one week! Actually pretty happy about that. Wasn't easy to think of stuff I didn't like about the table, but the lack of a power button is pretty annoying.
The power plug sticking out of the leg like that looks pretty vulnerable to being kicked as well. Needs an inset (and a 90° plug probably) to keep it safe.
@Matthew Colville I'm a new viewer and seeing this video about the table it made me wonder if you do any other product reviews? Do you ever use custom made maps? Anything like what youtuber Runehammer does?
Several decades ago, before my brother and I were born, my father planted a red pine tree in our family bush lot. Last year the three of us went out and took the tree down and sawed it into lumber. We each have a goal for that lumber: my brother is crafting himself guitar, my father is fashioning his own casket, and I will be creating a mighty gaming table. After years of playing on ruddy kitchen tables, my table will not only be a stylish improvement, but a true piece of family heritage that I can kill off my kids and grand kids characters at for generations onward...
Oaks take FOREVER to grow...probably wouldnt have big enough to get enough wood from it...i dont see how it could be big enough to make everything he stated, anyway.
That is a sweet table! Matt, I am reluctant to say it after watching you the other day on Dragontalk(??), but I have to say it..... the sheer production quality of this video is amazing. You nailed it! It looks awesome, the lighting is just right, the sound is exceptional and the editing is amazing. Definitely kicked it up a notch! And the time lapse bit at the end??? Awesome! 6 stars out of 5 easy,
I don't know about shipping but the table seemed to run about ~$5k. I don't know about you but if I was playing games with friends once a week I think it's totally worth the price.
I will echo other people and say: the video & audio quality continues to be quite high, and the camera work in this one was great as well, smooth camera movement and tight editing
The creators of this amazing (as I see) table, are literally within 2km of where I live. I feel proud that Mat is promoting this and I'll buy the table when: 1) They fix the lights positioning to avoid eye fatigue while maintaining the lights on 2) Instal a power switch 3) Make sure both opposite corners (or all 4) have usb charger plugs
In 2021, seeing a group of friends play games around a table together and having Matt say he's never been happier in his life honestly makes me want to cry
Suggestions: Wire up your own little power button. (Yes it should be in build and that's a shame) Fabricate a cover for the lights to either defuse them more or block the upwards direction of the lights. (Those hue lights should have an awning over the top of them. The light should only go straight across and down onto the table, not up. Either with a lip or awning over the top or they should be set more back into the table.) The step down to the felt would perfectly hold some covers for the lights. Just make them the same width as the slat covers so you can have them on AND the DM section. But all in all the lights are not going to do anything in such a well lit room.
Hey Matt, Awesome table. One thing you could do would be to plug the table into a switch controlled wall plug, or barring that, get one of the wireless switch adapters to put between the wall socket and the table plug, then just keep the switch somewhere handy but where it won't get accidentally hit.
Hey, Matt! When you mentioned your table had adjustable lights i felt a jolt of excitement. For years, my friends and i have been using a phone-controlled LED light over our D&D table to set mood. It's easily the best thing at the table! If you haven't done it yet, i highly advise getting familiar with your controls as it can be GREAT to set mood and create drama.
Very nice. We jumped on a mass-produced table from a custom gaming table company- not as many bells and whistles, but also much cheaper. And after an OLD dining room table and then a couple of plastic picnic tables, it is so very nice.
I play at a table built by my father, it's a perfect 8ft circle made mostly by hand. I helped build the frame but the credit is all his. Having cool tables to play at can actually make the game more fun
Very cool. My wife and I kickstarted our gaming table a few years ago, but I think I'm gonna add lights like that. I even have a set of variable color led string lights just sitting in my playroom looking for a job.
The most important quality a table needs to have, aside from a sufficiently large size, is being sturdy. Nothing worse than a table that wobbles when people rest their elbows on it.
Hey Matt just wanted to put this on your most recent vid as a thank you. I'm gonna start running a game pretty soon where the basic scope of the campaign is on this large continent. The Hobgoblins of this world have gone to war against Orcdom meaning everything Orc related. This has caused Orcs to become much more established as a power in certain areas rather than scattered groups around the world. And your first adventure video from you're running the game series gave me a great way to introduce a recurring character and figure out how my players actually think. Basically thank you cause you're helping lots with this. I'm the only one familiar with dnd so its taking a lil bit for me to feel that I'm ready and they're ready to go into this. And your videos are making it easier on my mind
hey Matt, maybe someone has already suggested it, but what you can do to avoid plug-out/plug-in bottleneck is get one of those power socket multipliers they use for desktops, a one with on/off switch. You then can simply turn the multiplier on/off and it will reset the table for speaker pairing,
Hey the music during the time lapse bit is from the timerider right? Was digging it for sure. I think it would be really cool to have a combat encounter planned and laid out on the table, then put the planks down, and be able to just reveal it when the players get to it. Lots of cool possibilities there.
@@wickedAberration if you check out the other comments, you'd see he's responded quite a few times that he ordered the table amd paid for the table well before the kickstarter, as well as saying something to that effect in the video itself
My unrivaled table-envy: you have it! I hope to get myself a custom table one day, but that'll probably be after I can afford to move to a bigger place where I can have a proper gaming room.
Yo Matt, in case you still have a problem with turning the table on and off; there are switches for the feet, like a big robust button to step on, that function like an extension cord and a power switch. You can get them easily, also on the internet of course, I found them googling "foot power switch cord". And excess cables can be neatly strung together with cable ties.
Yessss everyone buy Rathskellers tables support those guys and Greece :) :) :) Thanks Matt for continuing your promotion of quality products and giving honest opinions.
For your power problem, you could get one of those power strips that has a foot pedal that cycles the power. They use them for Christmas trees a lot, so nows the time to look for them.
Matt, you could use the blue felt rectangle of extra-ness to set up a dungeon or battle arena for the game ahead of time, like Mercer does on CR, then bring it in when it's needed. This might appeal to you, given that it could add Drama. Amazing table. Thanks for letting us see your cool fantasy geek life.
I enjoyed this. If you have any other gaming accessories you want to show off, i'd love to see it. You already talked about some minis and the tool chest you keep your mini stuff in. Im into it!
If your are wondering about the blue topper, it should fit into one of the top three panel covers. That way you can have a upper felt surface of a blue color and a lower floor color of red.
If I have one very tiny concern about the table, it's that the main power plug looks like it may be liable to get hit by chair legs and feet if you're not being careful being that close to the floor. You'd think they'd have had you plugging it in near the top of the table rather than all the way at the bottom of one of the legs, or they'd at least cut a niche in the leg for the plug to sit in so it's less likely to get smacked around.
True but you could still have the cord in a less exposed position, even if you threw a rug over it you could still have the same sort of issues I mentioned along with potentially stepping on it. I've seen enough accidents with laptop chargers and the like to know those can be incredibly fragile if you're not careful. Like as long as they're careful I'm sure it will be fine, but it was just an observation I made because Matt felt the need to highlight how the power plugged in.
Nice table. Best ive seen before this was Wyrmwood but this is probably better, albeit more expensive. Applause to the people at rathskellers for findng a design that works so damn well.
As an aside: I've been perusing the art in the Strongholds and Followers book and purchased Liber Bestarius as soon as I knew it existed. I'm still not sure if I need a book about making strongholds, but the setting material--things like the Map of Gravesford or the various Inexorables of Axiom or the Creatures of Uttermost Chaos that represent the Court of All Flesh...man that stuff has me on the fence. If you made a book of regional information and monsters from your setting, I would snap that up in a second. Your world is tremendously interesting to me. By the way, your take on orcs is rad.
Thank you for the review. How difficult was the construction? Instructions clear and easy? How long did it take to put it together? How hard would it be to disassemble it to move it? Does it seat comfortably or would you have gone up in size?

Three things
1. Cool shirt, what's the price of oranges next year?
2. Your table is ridiculously awesome
3. OMG, IS THAT CHAOSEATER?!!!

6 stars out of 5 easy,
Use the blue felt thingy for various water settings. You could put some cool rocks, boats, etc...on it and it would look pretty cool.
I would imagine it replaces 2 of the top leaves to keep the full flat table with a smaller protected gaming space
