- Our team works with scientists trying to save the Salish Sea’s most iconic and endangered species: the Southern Resident killer whale. The goal is to collect critical health and diet data from each of the 73 surviving animals. So how does a wildlife veterinarian make a house call to do non-invasive medical tests on 10-ton killer whales in the open sea? It takes sharp eyes and a fine mesh net. What a great video. Thank you first of all for not pushing the “only eat Chinook” agenda on the general public. And also thank you for all your hard work in determining the overall health and a way forward in protecting these majestic creatures. It is not often I find a video made by reputable sources that tells it like it is instead of pushing what the DFO wants us to hear. 👍

Really appreciate some scientific accuracy here to counter some of the imprecise information coming from other news sources.
Interesting comment regarding coho. With the decline of large chinook, are the Southern Residents getting by on smaller fish? What are the implications? Looking forward to further reports.

How very sad that the apex predator is in trouble. If they are in need of our help imagine the rest of the eco system. My fav marine mammal.

For those of you here, go read a book called A Whale Of The Wild by Rosanne Parry. It's a beautiful read about this wonderful culture of orcas and it has several sources in the back where you can donate, and where their information came from!
I just read the book it really lets you imagine what the orca’s are thinking and how they talk in the water and how they so much smarter then we are and that they have a strong family bond and respect for each other and they help each other in anyway they can I’m glad that people can finally understand what is happening to our mammals in the sea and that they do the right things before it’s too late

Really hope they adapt somehow. It’s going to be a serious loss for the world if those whales die out in my lifetime.

I read that they are literally starving for lack of fish and are actually skinny. That's unacceptable! Is there a way to spawn more fish?

I appreciate this interesting video. Yet, I'm really annoyed that he keeps calling them whales and killer whales. They're orcas! Dolphins. They know 1,000,000 times more than I do. I don't understand the wording choices.
