- Three young whales, playing in the bay, remind me of a remarkable week further north watching the whales feed on surface schools of herring using lunges, traps and other acrobatics. For more movies about wildlife of the Salish Sea visit www.oursalishsea.ca.
Your film does awaken 'awe and wonder' in me for the giants of our salish sea. Thank you for creating and sharing - a legacy for us all.

Magic! I’m pretty sure I’ve heard them when swimming. Thanks for the video 👍🍺
What a beautifull movie you made, mr. Turner! We probably will not see them ourselves this summer as we hope to visit the area again after 5 years. Maybe we will see you.......
thank you!
Beautiful and glad to hear everyone else has been seeing the humpbacks...
Wonderful, Bob
Lovely to watch. One my goals is to someday see whales wild and free in person.
You do good work, man. I enjoy your content. Keep it up.
Excellent. Thank you, Bob!
Great film Bob - thanks for the time you've spent shooting and editing it for us when I know it would have been much easier just to sit back and enjoy watching our whale neighbours! The shots of the Humpbacks' hunting and feeding strategies were amazing as I've heard them described but have never actually seen them clearly.
I remember a meeting held at Stanley Park in Vancouver in 1961 with Murray Newman where he talked to people who were interested in conservation about the possible extinction of the 'great whales' and showed the movies that he and his crew had taken of the whales of the Salish Sea area. That meeting put all of us on notice that we had a job to do to prevent the distruction of life in our corner of the Pacific Ocean.
It is a delight to see that we have been able to make some progress. While I know that we have a long way to go before the sea returns to the state it was in before white people decided that they could make their fortunes harvesting the wealth of these waters, at least now we can catch a glimpse of the life that is still out there.

So exciting! Thank you for sharing. I had no idea they were hanging around Bowen for 3 months! We're headed back up kayak the Broughton's this summer so I hope to see what you saw!!!!
Hey Bob, wonderful video as always!! Are the whales still hanging around?
Im very interested in ending the commercial Herring Roe fishery. In 1978 I was discusted when i went to try to work on the herring roe fishery. It was calm so i. Did not get a job. I knew that this was so wrong. Harvesting roe when they are spawning. I contacted greenpeace and i was told to get some information about the issue. I went to the Fisheries anc got some pamphlets about the reduction fishieries. This hsppened in the 60's. Herring stocks were decimated but.miraculously recouvered. I was given a meeting with employee of fisheries department, who told mee a Japanese technology guy told him that he beleived the herring stocks would be wiped out in about 10 years. I was discuscusted with Canada for various reasons and went down to NM Colorado Utah. To hangglide.
Thankyou so much for your very beautiful and educating video, Mr. Turner! I will definitely be showing this to our children for a science lesson! I wonder if you've heard of the Squamish Streamkeepers? They made it possible for the herring to come back to the Vancouver area? I heard a talk by Jonn Matsen on the work they've done, and how all the whales, etc are coming back to the area because there is food there for them!
I wonder why?
