    Hi Gary - so enjoying your helpful videos! - I can't seem to get the FaceTime shortcut to work. When building the shortcut, it doesn't let you specify a phone number, just the contact which might contain home/mobile numbers. The result is that it seems to choose the home number which won't work for FaceTime. The only fix was for me to remove the home number from the contact but that doesn't sound right?

    Shortcuts seems like it should be a revolutionary feature for using my iPhone and other Apple devices … but it’s not, at least for me. I might just be not realizing the magic of Shortcuts, but all the examples I see are not compelling. The standard process to perform the actions are not a burden to me. Also, for me, rooting around all the possible commands in the Shortcuts app is overwhelming.
    The only shortcut I love so far is one that opens Maps when I connect to CarPlay, and that one is just an automation.

    Why make a Shortcut to play a song or playlist when Siri will do this natively? I find that with a lot of shortcuts I find on the web.

    • @macmost
      @macmost  Před 2 lety

      Perhaps you want to do it with a tap instead of speaking. Perhaps you want to say something different than the standard Siri command to play the song or playlist. But the main reason to learn how to do this is so you can combine things. One Shortcut can be used to say set the volume to a specific amount, turn on a Focus mode, and then start a playlist.

  • @Trackhoe075
    @Trackhoe075 Před 2 lety

    I have to be honest after trying a few of these shortcuts I have to say this is one of apples worst apps!
    I am not a programmer and with such a nonexistent tutorial on this app that isn’t going extremely fast thru all the steps is quite frustrating
    I find it no problem to do what I’ve always done it’s just not worth the time or effort to learn
    As an example If I need to call someone I just ask Siri or I just go to my contacts I don’t need a shortcut
    Yes this is a simple example but for the time it would take me to figure out anything more complex I would be better off just doing it the way it’s been done long before this shortcut programming ever came about
    Sorry to be unenthusiastic but I’m ok with going to my contacts to make a call or asking Siri rather than figuring out all the individual steps it takes and putting that on a button so to speak

    • @macmost
      @macmost  Před 2 lety

      Using Shortcuts isn't for everyone. And just because you can make a Shortcut for something doesn't mean you should, as the time spend building it may never equal the time you save in the long run.
