    I spent a long time as a Windows user. Windows XP and 7 made me look forward to the regular Service Packs, which would add a whole bunch of features and fix a lot of issues (while introducing a few new ones). I concurrently used Linux, and a new major release of whatever distro I used was a major event, something to be happy about, nearly every time. Windows 10 made me dread the upcoming feature update, because it would be forced on me, and it would break more than it fixed, and add bloat I didn't need. Becoming a Mac user has made me actually look forward to OS feature updates again.

    If you can manage a stream deck, you can launch shortcuts from the stream deck as well.
    You can also force stop automator workflows from a stream deck ;)
    There are many new things you can do with shortcuts, automator and a stream deck working together. I'm particularly interested in sound and lighting.
    I found an apple forum post that showed how to import automator workflows into shortcuts but it was deleted/taken down. Is there anyway you could possibly shed some light on this situation? Still trying to figure it all out. Thank you

    In iOS you can invoke a shortcut via an accessibility voice control custom command. That allows you to invoke a shortcut directly without the need for Siri. Have not seen this same option for the iMac voice control custom commands - I hope this is added at some point in the future. I love iOS and iMac shortcuts - it would be great if you did additional videos or even a class.

    Hi Gary. I have FINALLY decided to upgrade my late-2015 iMac from Mojave to a more current MacOS. I have been procrastinating so long since I know I will lose 32-bit app support. However, new TurboTax and Adobe PS and LR apps no longer work on Mojave, so I have to bite the bullet and upgrade. Would you recommend I upgrade to Big Sur, or Monterey? I feel Monterey is still a bit early in its cycle, and I would normally wait for the first .1 release of a brand new OS. What do you think? Your advise would be most valued!

    • @macmost
      @macmost  Před 2 lety

      Why upgrade but not all of the way. I always use the latest versions of macOS and all app. Monterey has been available for public testers since June so it isn't like the old days where the public didn't get to try it out until release. Monterey has bugs, but so does Big Sur. So does Mojave.

    Battery of your MacBook doesn't seems to be charging. I get the same Symbol when my battery doesn't charge due using of third party USB hubs. Please confirm if you too have the same issue. Moreover, is it normal to have this battery Symbol while charging?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  Před rokem

      Not sure what you are experiencing. It doesn't matter if a hub is "third party" (Apple doesn't make one, so all hubs are third party). If I had to guess, I would say that your hub simply isn't supplying enough power to charge your Mac. Compare it (watts) with the charger that comes with your MacBook. If your Mac is losing power when plugged into it, then it is probably using more power than it is taking in from that particular hub.

    • @peterbreis5407
      @peterbreis5407 Před 2 lety

      @@macmost I had another look at Graphic Converter. Not much has changed, a long list of features hampered by a clumsy, ugly UI. Getting to anything, if you can find it, is a tedious sequence of burrowing down often obscure options. Really reminds me of Freehand where the App is built around the programming paradigm not the User's interactions. Lots of modal windows.
      I also went to Apple to see if they would address the bugs in Shortcuts App and the options that simply do not work. After an initial promise to investigate the problems and get back to me, I got nothing. Unfortunately that is Apple these days. Hyped features, that not even Apple employees can get to work, but we are expected to.

    @peterbreis5407 Před 2 lety

    Just like Automator. A lot of promises and doesn't deliver even on something as simple as a QuickAction to convert bitmaps to HEIC.
    Even Apple's preinstalled more convoluted QuickAction to do this simple task is buggy, flipping formats and file sizes after selection or throwing up a perpetual spinning wheel if you choose some unspecified number of "too many" files. It also dumps all selected converted files into one folder, despite the original files are in separate folders.
    There is a reason these potentially useful "time saving features" don't get used. They more often than not only add to the time wasted on a task.

      There is no way to do that with Shortcuts on the Mac, yet. You could do it with a Calendar event and Automator, I suppose. But WHY do you need to do that? Can't you just launch it yourself if you are using your Mac? And if you are not using your Mac, then it wouldn't happen anyway. I don't know WHY you need to do this particular thing, but wouldn't a recurring reminder be better? After all, if Notes is already open you wouldn't even notice this happening. Is there a way to import the Numbers data dictionary from AppleScript into Shortcuts? Anyone has any experience, wisdom on this?! Thanks!

      No, you just have very basic Shortcuts actions there. But you can use JavaScript to do more. czcams.com/video/Wjf1QHKHPpI/video.html

    Hi. I weant to open an App, klick at a specific button and than fill in something in a text-mask, than click another button, than close the window.
    I dont know how to let shortcut click somewhere. It it possible?!

    • @macmost

      You can't really do that with a Shortcut. How you do it depends on the app and how it has implemented things. Maybe try Keyboard Maestro, but there will be a learning curve and you may need to firsthand help if you are not experienced with programming.

      @@macmost Hm … I tried to do it via Automator (with recording-action), than opened the Automator-file via Shortcuts. Save that as a shortcut and now it works.
      I attached the shortcut to my dock and now i only have to click it. (That seems to be the benefit vs the Automator-approach … at least i couldn't find a way to make it easy clickable …)
      (I wanted to automate assigning/designing licenses from products wich I use sometimes on my Mac and sometimes on my PC … now I don't have to do it manually for every of those programs. And „of cause“ non of those licensing tools have implementations for Shortcuts. But like said with the trick to record my actions in automator and using that in shortcut it works like a charm)

      No easy way to do that. You can do some things with AppleScript/JavaScript but they probably won't work like you want them to. Hard to comment further without knowing what you are actually trying to DO.

    I’m trying to make a shortcut where when I take a screenshot it will automatically be set to the lock screen. And resize the screenshot to 50%.
    I haven’t succeeded.

    • @macmost
      @macmost  Před 2 lety

      You couldn't trigger a Shortcut like that. You could set the screenshot to save to a special folder by default, then have an Automator (not Shortcuts) Folder Action operate on it. But you'd then have to figure out a way to set your Desktop background to that image.

      @@macmost Sorry I didn’t explain it so well. I’m on the iPhone. I have made a simple two step shortcut that will “Get the latest 1 screenshot” and “Set Lock Screen wallpaper to latest screenshots”.
      However, I want to make the image a little smaller so It’s not so big or zoomed in on the Lock Screen. I have tried the “Resize image” or “Resize screenshot” in between the two steps and set it to a percentage or a particular width and hight, but the image isn’t smaller on the Lock Screen.
      It’s okay if I will have to tab the shortcut after I have taken a screenshot. If it’s impossible to automatically do it when I take the screenshot in the first place.

    Great video, but this app seems like an over complication to things you easily do. It’s more trouble than it’s worth imo. Very redundant because a lot of features are already built into Siri or have a shortcut. I don’t know of any practical uses. Maybe you can make a video on that.

      I'm not sure what you are experiencing. GarageBand doesn't need a connection, but perhaps it was trying to open a previous document you had stored in iCloud? Or it was in the middle of an update? Contact Apple for support on that.

    Is it possible to add a shortcut to the widget bar on macOS Monterey like you can do on iOS?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  Před 2 lety

      No, as there is no Shortcuts widget on macOS. But what are you trying to accomplish with that? What is your goal? The Shortcuts menu is right there at the top of the screen and you can place Shortcuts there, which is just as convenient if no more so.

    • @ladezonepb
      @ladezonepb Před 2 lety

      @@macmost I have two opinions on that:
      1 ) There is already a Shortcut widget on iOS. So what could be a good reason not to have a Shortcut widget on macOS since widgets are possible there too? I believe there is no good reason for that, so if not now, but in the future we will see a Shortcut widget on all Apple platforms.
      2 ) I like the big visual appealing colorful widget style much more than the small icons in the menu bar. Furthermore, to activate a shortcut, the widget bar would be faster (when using the mouse), it needs just one click, while the menu bar needs 2 (open the menu and click a list item). In fact I would always prefer a widget in the notification center instead of a menu item in the menu bar.
      But nevertheless, thanks a lot for your introduction and answering my question!🤝
