    I first moved to Las Vegas in 1976, grew up in Phoenix, and my High School Sweetheart was still in Phoenix! So I would drive from Vegas to Phoenix almost every weekend for two years! It was a much different drive then. In 84 I moved to Southern California until 1999, when I moved back to Vegas to hook back up with that same HS Sweetheart who lived in Phoenix, but had moved to Vegas! So from 99 until 08, we would go back to Phoenix 4 to 6 times a year as we both had family and friends still there! Even up to 08 the Bridge and bypass still was a couple years away! So you still drove through Hoover Dam and Boulder City. Of course a lot of the road was just one lane each direction. I hadn’t made that trip again until Jan of 2021, of my gosh what a difference from Kingman to Las Vegas, since then I’ve made the trip a dozen times! It’s such a beautiful drive. A couple times I have take the old way from Vegas, up Boulder Hwy into Boulder City, to the Dam! As far as they let you go now, at the last parking area of the Hoover Dam is where it’s now blocked off. We also went through Hoover Dam on our way to Phoenix shortly after 9/11, when they first put up road blocks for vehicles to be checked. It was very serious and kinda Erie! Of course just a week earlier you could drive to the Dam and through it without a care! Little did we know that would be the last time. The security check still remains today. The Bridge or bypass is quite the sight to see up close! Two marvels right there to see!😇 Nice video😇

    I remember when I first saw this route on Freeway Brent's channel back in 2010 when the Hoover Dam bypass just opened to traffic and US-93 was still being widened to 4 lanes. Pretty neat to see this route again after 12 years (I really need to get out west myself one of these days...) Great music choice as well, really gave me some of FB's desert drive vibes I miss.

    Amazing stuff. You're right - that Colorado River Valley descent is SPECTACULAR! I can't say I'm a fan of I-11 and some of the others just having a series of dots as lane markings, rather than actual lines.

    I remember this drive from Arizona before the Hoover Dam Bridge was built. Sometimes w/traffic we waited 30 or more minutes to cross the dam, the three times we did so we parked there, on my last trip to Vegas before the bridge was built, I went thru Laughlin instead, which we loved, so laid back after Vegas.
    Now that Phoenix is ringed by Casinos, most with more than 700 slots, sometimes much more and a new one scheduled to open near Surprise at the Loop 303 and Northern, gambling is less of a reason to visit Vegas, now a draw by drawing shoppers or those going to concerts or its newest attractions, like the Sphere. It's been ten years since my last visit, though I have taken two far longer drives, including two four thousand mile round trips back east by car since.
    America, like your beautiful Vegas video shows, is worth escaping a plane sometimes and just enjoying it by car. If you have a child or two with you and you worry about them getting impatient, wait about 30 minutes and if they act feisty, ask them first 'r we there yet?'.
    It works, and it does keep audio interference down if recording a video!

    I don’t know if there going to be the auxiliary route of I-11 which branch of from I-11 in Hawthorne to Fallon Nevada, or from Yerington to Fallon Nevada, such as x11, such as I-111 or I-211 to I-80 in Fallon Nevada, since I-11 will go from Las Vegas to Reno in Nevada, via Carson City Nevada. If it is true, then I-11 will share with US-95 for most of Nevada, between Las Vegas to Hawthorne, or to Yerington, via ALT-US-95, then to ALT-US-50 then it will bore through the mountain as of the tunnel that leads to Carson City Nevada. It will be at least 25-30 years to do the project. I know that I-11 will share with I-580 & US-395 between Carson City and Reno where it ends at I-80.

    Great drive! Why does Canada does not have any national freeway system like the US Interstate Highway System?

    • @AsphaltPlanet1
      @AsphaltPlanet1  Před 2 lety +1

      I think you maybe have asked this before, but there really isn't a great reason. Canada's population is far more regionally distributed than it is in the US, and highways fall solely under the jurisdiction of provincial government affairs in Canada. That, and in many cases, particularly in northern Ontario, traffic volumes are pretty low.

    • @russallert
      @russallert Před 2 lety +1

      Right now, the closest thing we have to an Interstate system is the Trans-Canada Highway, which is no longer just one continuous highway across the country. The main road (known in most provinces as Hwy 1) is still the primary route, but there are several Trans Canada routes in Ontario, and Hwy 16 between Prince Rupert BC and Portage La Prairie MB is also part of the Trans Canada system. It's federally funded, so I imagine that down the road, it will become a kind of default Canadian equivalent to the US Interstate system. I live in BC, where the physical geography makes road building a huge challenge (as evidenced by the ongoing repairs to several highways following last November's atmospheric river), and even two-lane highways cost a huge amount of money, never mind a multi-lane freeway with interchanges. So that's another obstacle to an Interstate-like system, as least in BC.

    • @russallert
      @russallert Před 2 lety +1

      @@SigmaRho2922 That's right, although both systems in the two provinces are under provincial jurisdiction rather than federal.

    • @YTHatesMe-999
      @YTHatesMe-999 Před rokem +1

      Along with Canada being sparsely populated outside of urban centers, the bulk of their population is within a short distance of the US border. It is easier for Canadian truck drivers to get from one coast to the other using the Interstate System.

    • @FlorenceSlugcat
      @FlorenceSlugcat Před 2 měsíci

      Most of the canadian population is near the american border.
      As a result, we have the trans canadian highway, which travels from the east coast to the west coast. We have provincial highways that branch off the federal canadian highway, to go a little more north or south, aswell as to take alternative routes to bypass some populated areas and such.
      There are no highways in the upper parts of canada. Almost nobody lives there, the ones who do are mostly for things like mining towns. As a result, canada pretty much has a single “interstate” and it goes coast to coast.
      Most of that trans-canadian highway is a 2 lane road, because in most of canada, we really dont need more. In populated areas however, it usually climbs up by one or more lanes

  • @rickyaz8640
    @rickyaz8640 Před 2 lety +1

    Fix a bypass around Kingman and double lane about 25 miles of US 93 and it’s a 4 hr drive between PHX and LV. People drive FAST on that road. The Bridge on 93 over Hoover Dam was the big deal
