The Lamborghini Jarama is probably the least-known Lamborghini -- and one of the ugliest. Today, I'm reviewing this rare Jarama to show you all the quirks and features of the Lamborghini Jarama -- and why the Jarama is so unknown.

The first "unknown" switch is the rear window defroster. And there are no heating element lines in the rear window because most cars that old didn't use those heating elements. This car would have had a heating coil in a small box (usually in the trunk, attached to the underside of the package tray) and a fan that blew warm air through a vent in the package tray onto the rear window, the same way the front window defroster works in this car and modern cars as well.
The switch right next to that is for the fog lights. You can see a light in that dash cluster that shows the "soup bowl" with wavy lines, but it is tilted sideways the way you would expect lights at the front of the car to face. If that isn't lighting up when that switch is flipped then the light bulb for that icon is probably just burnt out. I have no idea why the picture of the fog light on that switch faces up and down rather than to the side.
*I edited out the part about cars built before 1978 not having electric heating elements in the rear window because it turns out some foreign cars did have them before 1978 and it detracted from the point of my post, which is that this car doesn't have to have the "lines on the rear window" to actually have a rear window defroster. Doug doesn't seem to know that in a time before electric heating elements embedded in rear windows, cars still had rear window defrosters that were heating coils in a box with a small fan that blew the warm air onto the window.*

I downloaded the parts manual for the Jarama so i could figure out what the switches were. On the left gauge cluster the left and right knobs are respectively the wiper rheostat(speed) and the "square light rheostat (dimmer). On the right gauge cluster the middle button that turns on the tooth brush sprayer is indeed the rear defroster if equipped and the "soup bowl" is the fog lights if equipped.

The Jarama was made for Ferruccio Lamborghini, as he wanted something between an Espada and Muira. It was his favourite Lamborghini. Bob Wallace converted one into a race car (the Jarama Bob). Oh, and it was styled by Marcello Gandini, who also styled the Iso Lele.

So with a bit of internet sleuthing I was able to find out a few things. First is the dials, the one on the left is called the "Windscreen Wiper Rheostat" so I am assuming it's to adjust the speed of the windscreen wipers. The other knob is called the "Panel Lights Rheostat" so I think that one is for adjusting the brightness of the instrument cluster, though I don't know why it has 2 layers to the dial, maybe gauge brightness and interior brightness? The middle switch on the right is indeed the rear defrost or "Rear Window Heater Switch" though I have no idea what the light in the cluster even means! Please reply if you know what that warning light is!!! Finally the soup button is apparently the "Fog Lights Switch" so maybe the steam is supposed to be fog, or possibly it's intended to be oriented sideways.

So it's probably to indicate that the rear defroster "unstucks" the rear wiper and probably also heats up the rear washer nozzle? And I suppose those were extra so they're not present on the reviewed car but the Italians didn't bother to blank the unused switch?

You seem to not know the history of Lamborghini because you always seem to be surprised by how well the clutch functions.
Lamborghini started out as a farm equipment manufacturer, the owner bought a Ferrari when he became successful and he was dissatisfied with the way the clutch operated, so he wrote into Ferrari to make some suggestions on how they can improve their clutch system, and Ferrari wrote back, insulted that some tractor manufacturer would dare suggest how an exotic supercar company should change their clutch system.
Lamborghini was upset by that letter so he decided he could do better, and Lamborghini started making exotic supercars too with better clutch systems.

@Matt Miller From warm and gushy to a rock with poison spikes, jesus. I'll never understand the externe car trash talk or romances... always too much in one way or the other. Seems like a waste of time and always, always inaccurate.
A lot of people who buy Lamborghinis are more risky in the first place, and do burn-outs more often than anyone I see with Ferraris. Crazy car, crazy owners.
I agree with you that the story is warm and gushy, because to this day even those closest to the original sources can't say for sure it ever happened... but most old timers say it was one of many meetings with the two tycoons of the day... and though I've never been of the cloth to afford either, at least I knew about both makes, others, and their stories long before the internet lol! You may have as well.
You went a bit hard on the comparison at Lambo though, for sure. Whether it's Ford vs. Chevy, or Ferrari vs. Lamborghini or Porsche, I'll never get it. The amount of cars built (even from a small company like Lamborghini) and how much they changed from model to year varies so much that I can't totally trash or totally worship any of them. It doesn't even make sense to criticize the safety of any of the cars from the 70's or earlier from make to make since ALL of them managed to make at least one model that either roasted you if something sparked, you couldn't' keep them on the road, or you couldn't escape if you simply ran into something. Yes... some Ferrari's as well.
The wonderful Porsches? One person says nothing bad about them. the next... claims they'll spin off the road the first time you drive fast around corners. Of course the truth is somewhere in-between. I found the old ones are incredibly basic and cheap on the inside, yet I hear nobody say it, and again felt as if with one swipe of a fence, the panels would not keep anything from smashing the rest of it and myself. Not more than ten minutes after a friend was telling my cousin about how well made they were, did a handle on the door come off when he used it (can't remember if it was window or door latch).
I agree many Lamborghinis could be dangerous, but I also noticed most bad accidents happened in the U.S. where I live, and plenty goofballs with money never loved cars the same way as who built or lived the life of a true enthusiast ... didn't maintain them; simply turned the key and mashed the accelerator. Ferrari owners thought differently from then start, and that's not Lambo's fault. Numb brained boys with toys, seeing something like a Lamborghini, which are obviously something unusual and compromising for the shapes or design that most car makers didn't attempt... as nothing different from a neato bicycle. Of course they should have been more careful. Just look at the thing, and know the company was young, trying crazy shit with designers stolen from Ferrari etc.... I would drive it fast as well, but I also know how to keep a car on the road, even a Shelby or Viper. Balls out the third time you drive it is wrong. A car the looks like a wedge? Well of course you don't drive it in a way that flips it. How the f--- are you going to get out? Sure the windshield was designed to pop out. Good luck!!
Everything else of that time would also give you tetanus if you didn't polish it and then scraped your elbow on it after a few years of oxidation. It's relative.
"Poorly made" is definitely shared by some Ferraris. Come on. Check out each model, the good and the bad, then be honest. The very first Lamborghinis actually were considered different but equal, and in some ways and for taste,, better than Ferraris. Little Lamborghini was just trying to start out like others did, but in the 60's under Ferrucio's money from other businesses but still, hardly the foundation Enzo had with autos... much more difficult than back in the late 40's when many had a clean slate following the war and less expectations, or if you started your company in the 20's, or around 1900 when hardly anybody knew what to expect. In the 60's you have a lot of catching up to do, and all eyes are on you. To defend both, In the days Enzo or even Ferrucio grew up? You got hurt, it was your fault. You knew it was a contraption, learn about it and don't complain. It's not fair to judge them from today's comforts, all relying on ideas before to know how to improve.
The clutch heaviness was not restricted to Lamborghini for that time. It's funny how the person above tried to put down Doug (I know... he deserves it sometimes) for "not knowing the history..." when all that person did is look it up in seconds or share the info he heard 40 millionth hand.
Most people who I knew on Long Island and LA who had the old Ferraris, Lamborghinis, etc.. seem to think they aren't much different at the same age when it comes to maintenance and reliability... but they all say many young Lambo owners start with them as their first "success" car and don't bother to learn the differences and therefore don't' try to maintain them and then talk shit. The don't even warm them up before driving them. The Ferrari owners often started experience as kids with their dad's exotics.
Again, It varies a lot from model to model. I know in general some Lambos had fragile or less than ideal components, especially when ownership changed hands. Again, Ferrari is not innocent.
I drove an Islero-- kinda heavy clutch, and an Espada... not any more heavy clutched than most cars from the 60's/70's with power... but I've read different experiences. The should have been similar, but again... old cars, hard years, odd owners, not even wanting to find someone to service them. Compared to what the authors of the time were saying, I can see why Doug would be surprised. They whined about it so much when I was young, I thought that only Lamborghinis had heavy clutches.. Anyway, thanks for informing us, but lighten up huh? At least grade all of them on the curve they deserve for the time and likely, abuse.
      Ciao.

Weird and Strange and Insane are just California w@n|《 words. Love your devotion Doug DeMuro. Objectively, you need to know that the Marzaal, Islero, and the Bug Eyed GT350 begate Weird, Strange and Insane, Bizzare Odd and Crazy got perpetuated by the Countach, Urraco, Espada, Jalapa and LM002. Switch gear was commerically supplied to Lamborghini, and used first in the Jarama. Considering the trouble you and your son Tyler the Hoovie had with the Jalapa and Fox Mustang Turbo horn botton on the stalk...yall like a kid on E in a Phil Spector Sound Lab!. Thanks for the entertainment man!

I’m with you. He's got an incredible number of subscribers for sharing such a one-sided opinion. I’ve watched several of Doug's videos, and appreciate his (often times OVER) enthusiastic observations. However, I do feel like he could tone down his silly titles about _car is the craziest/coolest/ugliest/weirdest/strangest.

It's not ugly imo, it's just basic. It reminds me of a Chevette

Never heard of the Jarama before now, so thank you for the enlightenment. I like the way it looks - and it makes a fantastic noise - but I'm probably too tall to ever enjoy driving it.

The two switches that you do not recognise are for a heated rear window because some cars in Europe had invisible heating elements in the glass and the other switch is for front or rear fog lights which are standard especially in the UK.

But why does the heater's indicator look like a rotary saw blade with a screwdriver stuck in it, and a flashlight spraying water?
