I just got back from Kintyre (2022). I couldn’t help but play Mull of Kintyre on my pipes on the Mull of Kintyre just after sunrise. The fog was rolling in from the hills and I frightened a few deer who ran off, but I’m glad I did it. My Dad always loved the tune, he’s been gone now for about 15 years but I’m sure he was watching. Cheers from Canada!

As an American, I never heard of "Mull of Kintyre" till this past winter when I read the great McCartney bio, "McCartney." There's a "Mull of Kintyre" cheese too! Made in Campbelltown, Scotland. Excellent. Caught my eye in the Hannaford's supermarket specialty cheese section.

@@dennylaine8735 I enjoyed this video. Curious, though. Exactly how was Mull of Kintyre written? What was your contribution? With the exception of a few smashing solos by Paul, the work of Wings was the best by far of Paul's post-Beatles work. Paul needs a steady band that contributes, like Wings. I'm also curious why you left the Moodies? Before or after the dynamic duo arrived which changed the entire mood of the Moodies? Still love "Go Now" by the way. Love the harmonies. Mull is one of the most beautiful melodies I've ever heard.

Denny did that same show in Cleveland, Ohio and in Kent, Ohio. I have seen him 4 times in the last 7 years. It was FANTASTIC. They were very intimate venues, so not a HUGE crowd It was nice as we were able to talk with him each time he was here and had my pic taken with him each time. It was so nice because after the second time he remembered me. First time I saw his solo show it was on my actual birthday and my friend mentioned that. He said, "OH, well HAPPY BIRTHDAY, and then hugged me and kissed me on the cheek. He then went and gave me one of his solo CD's and signed it. I asked him what I owed him for it (cos they were selliing them there after the show, but I hadn't gone back to the table yet) and he told me, "Oh, it's a birthday present from me to you." I couldn't believe it, he DIDN'T have to do that. The second time I brought this "HOLLY DAYS" album with me to show him and he was surprised to see it, I think not many people had that album. It's a fantastic lp, it's Denny, Paul and Linda covering Buddy Holly songs. It's one of my favorite LPs He signed that one too, I LOVE Denny, very nice, down to earth guy, and he was very kind each time I saw him. LOVE HIS songs, especially DELIVER YOUR CHILDREN and especially "TIME TO HIDE" I LOVE that one!!!

My wife and I were at one of those shows. We sat in the front row and harmonized along with the band. We were so loud that Denny joked that our singing must have been because of the tradition of southern gospel singing. After the show, I told him that no, it was because we had listened to and sung along with Wings songs for 40 years! If you remember that part in the song "Richard Cory" where Denny sings "Oh, I wish that I could be..." and then he pauses, waiting for someone in the audience to continue, I'm the guy who shouted out "Johnny Denver"! If you don't get the reference, he said "Jonny Denver" instead of "Richard Cory" during their 1976 world tour as a humorous nod to Denver's current popularity and wealth. So when he did the song in his recent shows, he paused at that moment to see if an audience member would shout the line.

I saw Denny in concert in a small venue about five years ago and was able to chat with him afterwards. About his time living on Paul and Linda's farm in Scotland, he joked that "They slept in the house, and I slept in the barn." That period was the genesis of Wings. I had heard a rumor that "Mull of Kintyre" was actually Denny's idea, and that he sold it to Paul because he needed money. But in this piece, Denny says that the song was a tune that Paul was fooling around with. Maybe they wrote it together.

Try the Mull of Kintyre cheese - a delicious, creamy, cheddar with a nice salty tang - due to the geography of the Mull. Great with good Scottish oatcakes, water biscuits, as cheese on toast , anything, really.
I first saw Denny, back in the 60s, in the original Moody Blues. Go Now had just charted and they were a great R'n'B outfit. At the Odeon in Glasgow on the Chuck Berry tour - Chuck had good UK representation and they always found great support acts. The following year he had his old mate Carl Perkins and a 'new' Newcastle band, The Animals - blew the house down, they were so good.
