    I'm so happy you are back on CZcams, your videos are spot on and get to the truth. If you take away price, the Speedmaster is the most iconic watch in the world, for nothing more than it's achievements. The water resistance is a terrible argument in my opinion. Most of the water that watches are exposed to during everyday life is washing your hands, not swimming. Yes there are people who take their watches into the ocean, but it's a small number for sure. I can, but never wear mine swimming, for fear of losing or scratching it. I have both watches, a pre-ceramic 2008 sub and the FOIS. I wear the Omega twice as much as the Rolex, and that say's everything you need to know about these two watches. I love them both, but the Omega would be the one I pick, if I had to choose only one watch for the rest of my life.

    I have experienced, and still own, both the submariner and the speedmaster. They are both great watches. That being said, when taking all things into consideration, the best all around luxury watch is the Rolex Explorer. I own the 214270 and it is hands down my favorite watch. Absolute perfection

    Just a heads up, I asked Omega about the 3861 and by itself, yes, it is water resistant within the METAS testing parameters for the watch. However, it is NOT water resistant once the chronograph pushers are pressed. Omega doesn’t recommend swimming with it incase the pushers accidentally get bumped underwater.

So i sold almost all my watches, i only kept my G Shock that i also love very much. Im on the look for a Submariner aswell. I dont need anymore watches after i get my black Submariner.

    Great vid ! My top 5 : the Breguet Reine de Naples - the first wristwatch worn by Caroline Bonaparte, Queen of Naples around 1810. Then indeed the Speedy 321 2915 and Sub 6538, respectively 2 and 3. And obviously then the Seiko Astron 1969 as nr 4 - the first quartz piece. And as nr 5, I would pick the 1928 Longines Hour Angle worn by Charles Lindbergh. Agree on daily wearers. Modern Speedy.

    Both nice but Omega got it pretty much spot on first time. The new one looks almost the same as the first one. Also the Speedmaster is cool the Rolex makes you look a try hard. It looks like Rolex are going to do their own AD’s and stop all the corruption so if you pay silly grey money you might get your finger’s burnt 🤔

    In term of design, efficiency: the sub
    In term of history, romantism and vintage feel: the speedy
    I love both. Regarding NASA, don t forget my friend that the 1861 is the last certified by NASA. So for à speedy I would go on a version before the very last one. If you invite me on your channel I can testimony the discussion I had with a (french) ex oméga watchmaker Who has prépared cosmonaute speedy (the french Tony pesquet).
    Ps: rolex could be considered as an investment but only keeping the watch 5 years if bought on Grey market. Never forget that professional prices includes their margin+internal Costs.

    I would like to humbly suggest that there is another characteristic of a GOAT watch to consider that was not listed: Influence on the industry and other watch designs. This MAY be the most important thing to weigh when looking at the greatest of all time. I would think that the sum-mariner wins that category. Great video! Good points on the speed master too.

    I have been doing a lot of thinking about the current frenzy surrounding the Rolex brand , Wasn't and isn't the Rolex brand supposed to be more of an upper middle class watch brand, rather than an all out high luxury brand? superior to most other middle class watches but just short of the "haute horology" brands status. As such, Rolex may very well be pricing itself beyond the reach of its original core market and directly competing with true Haute horology heavy hitters, how competitive will Rolex be when compared to such watches? I think that eventually, Rolex will be left in a no mans land in terms of market niche; too rich for its previous core market and not rich enough for the true high end market. I can envision Rolex watches being bought and sold over and over again between "investors" and speculators without an end user in sight, will this end well for the brand? only time will tell. Omega will ultimately benefit from having the high middle class market niche all to itself.

    • @whereRbearsTeeth
      @whereRbearsTeeth Před 2 lety +3

      Spot on, and I agree 100%. Rolex makes fantastic, durable tool watches. That being said, they are nowhere even close to haute horology. And like you said, they are beginning to approach haute horology price levels. This is simply unsustainable in the long run. Rolex is eventually going to price themselves out of their own market. It’s going to be very interesting to see what happens with the brand in the next 10-15 years. Everyone seems to think that Rolex is a genius company, but personally I think they are moving in the wrong direction.

  • @Milofchg
    @Milofchg Před 8 měsíci

    I know this is a year later.... Come to think of it. The best luxury watch is the type of watch that can be a versatile watch. As much as we love the Sub and Speedy, both have their limits, few limits but there are others that can do a bit more. I say the best luxury watches are the most discreet watches. Watches that have decent water resistance, hold value, look good on bracelets, or on rubber/NATO/leather straps, can be sporty/casual/dressy at the same time, and under 40mm. For me Rolex Date Just steel, Day Date white gold, OP steel, Explorer 36mm all neutral looking watches for all occasions. Others could be Omega Aqua Terra, VC 56, Patek Nautilus steel, AP Royal Oak steel, Tudor Black Bay 36 watches like that fall in-between are a safe bet. Obviously luxury and price are subjective. You can find the same versatility in Longines, Hamilton, Seiko, Grand Seiko. Just as long as you stick with simple time only watches.

  • @MrThehardway

    The Speedie is the Speedie, it speaks for itself, but not being waterproof, not having a date complication, not being automatic, not having a scratch resistant crystal...I can't concur that's it's a better 1 and done then the Sub...believe me, I tried!

    • @whereRbearsTeeth
      @whereRbearsTeeth Před 2 lety

      My recommendation would be to try them both on. While the 3861 is definitely an improved movement over the 1861, the bracelet is a joke. It’s far to dainty and ends up giving the watch a very unbalanced look and feel on the wrist. 1861 is the way to go in my opinion

Especially on vacation cause there is never anywhere to put it.for me the hulk is the best watch pound for pound.it’s got some color to wear it at dinner and goes good with my tropical vacation clothing that my wife puts me when on vacation ( I only go tropical if it’s vacation ) I can wear it in the caves , and I’ve even jumped off 35 ft cliffs with it. It’s got the brushed bracelet so the scratches aren’t that visible. I can wear it to the movies , and I can wear it with a suit and still be the best dressed guy 😜. This is just my preference of course. The only thing that could make it better for would be a gold Hulk. With the brushed bracelet in gold. That would be my perfect watch. With all that said it’s not my favorite watch in my collection.
