Today we're making the Sloe Gin Fizz! This is a classic bubbly drink that's a perfect late summer/early autumn drink. Technically sloe gin is not a gin, but a gin-based liqueur. It's sweet, fruity, slightly tart, and easy to sip on or mix into a drink. This recipe is fairly simple, so I thought it'd be fun to mix it up with a few different spirits to see how they enhance the drink. We'll keep sloe gin as the base and try renditions with Navy Strength Gin, Cognac, Pisco, and Campari. Experimenting like this can inspire new flavor combinations and drink recipes. Enjoy the lineup! Cheers!

Anyone else excited for fall?
Great timing it's finally not 100 degrees outside! Definitely going to try this drink later!
I’m excited for Spring…
Yess sirr
Heck yeah!
I’m ready for fall!😁
While it may be a lower ABV drink, Loretta Lynn and Jack White taught me that Sloe Gin Fizz works mighty fast when you drink it by the pitcher and not by the glass.
I am soft opening my new bar this weekend, and I want you to know that your videos are what I have been sending out as a curriculum to make sure we are all on the same page as far as technique and education. You have done so much for my career, and I am making sure the knowledge I have benefited from continues to flow and influence great talent in this industry. Thank you my dude ❤
Congratulations on your opening! Happy the content is helpful, and appreciate the support. All the best to you and your team on the new venture! Cheers
If you're picking sloe berries yourself either wait until after the first frosty nights or throw the berries into the freezer for a day. If you don't do that the berries will be extremely bitter. After they've been frozen they'll still retain some bitterness, but most of the tannins will be broken down to bring out the unique flavor.
It's similar with persimmons. I pick them frozen solid, still on the tree.
The quality of your sloe gin is sooo important. The bright red stuff you’ll find at cheaper prices is horribly medicinal. Otherwise a fun cocktail and perfect to sip on with one of them Ander’s dad hats. Ha! Cheers, Anders! 😉🤙🏽🥃
Good call. Cheers!
I really enjoy your takes/riffs on these classic cocktails. It makes want to invite my friends over and start mixing sloe gin fizzes (fizzi)!! Thanks for the great ideas!
Yes please do more of this format
Love it when Anders appears to start off a video already just a little buzzed.
TO THE BAR! ➡️🥃
Fun fact about the sloe berries. They are sour but you usually harvest them after the first frost. Thats when they become a little sweeter. Im todays age you can harvest them and just put them in the freezer for 1 or 2 days and have the same results. We have sloe berry bushes in the fields and I think I am gonna get some this year.
I made my own sloe gin, so I am super excited for this!
Loved this episode! We are so going to try a few variations! We look forward to you every Friday and we have shared your content with everyone we know. Go Cubs!
Gonna have to try this one!
Showing off the creative process is one of my favorite things about this. Thanks Anders!
Brilliant variation ❤
Very pretty! Stoked for the cognac version!
Some great sounding variations. I will plan to try them. Thanks for some great videos!!
Great show thank you! 👍
Love the fall, thanks for asking
A fantastic presentation Anders….I like the different varieties you prepared…You are spot on with a fall drink! CHEERS! and enjoy the beautiful weather!🍷🍷😁😁
That was a masterful bottle slide
Anders has got me on a Gin kick recently! Love these episodes.
Thanks for the new ideas. These cocktails look really good.
Was gifted a bottle of home made sloe gin as a wedding present this year, very excited to try it in these!
I just made one of these last weekend (because I was inspired by the gin video)!
Perfect episode! I make my own batch of sloe gin every year, but I rarely use it. Need more recipes for sloe gin!
I have been curious about sloe gin for a while. You have inspired me to go looking for it since I really want to try a couple of your options.👍
One of the most refreshing drinks of all time. So good.
Your CZcams always makes me thirsty ; ) Plymouth Navy Strength is a favorite, and I've never had Sloe Gin before so looks like I'll be trying this one soon. Thanks!
It's 8:44 am, rainy, gray morning in Providence,.RI. and now I'm craving one of those.drinka!!!!
Some great ideas here. I have some really good sloe-style fruity gins to try these with.
Nothing like starting my birthday off with one of your videos. I'm so happy. Now to try one of these (probably cognac because I love that stuff).
Thanks for doing riffs on Sloe Gin it’s been on my mind. A bottle of Fords is a available in my area. Thanks Anders and OZ
Love this topic, would be great for episodes on taking formulas (ex daisy, equal parts, etc.) And walking through making some unique drinks like I am sure you did as a bartender.
Thanks Anders a very interesting way to use Sloe Gin
I hate fall because it’s nearing the end of golf season. Great video! I love the experimentation. Makes me want to try different things myself.
Hey Anders! Just managed to get myself some sloe gin and this was the first thing I tried. Excellent drink to go with the great video! Thanks for the recommendation!
I was actually planning on having a sloe gin fizz a little later. I'm anxious to try the Pisco and Campari variations! I usually make mine with the 1/2oz gin already.
This was a fun one! Definitely enjoy the "let's see where this goes" kind of vids where you experiment with variations (and always interested in the lovely lady's opinions fyi!) Definitely giving the cognac version a try as well.
Got myself a hoodie and I'm definitely ready for fall. Bought myself my first bottle of Plymouth gin today as I've never had it and have been curious since watching your channel. Always been a fan of Uncle Val's. Can't wait to try it and this recipe!
Love me a sloe gin! Live right next to Haymans gin distillery who make their own sloe. They recommend a fizz with equal Campari and sweet Vermouth but will have to try these alternatives now!
Cicada lol. Sounds like home. Sorry it took me so long to finish this video. These all sound fun and good. Nice easy sipping. I do love cognac so i think that one might be my favorite rift.
Blackthorn is a common hedging plant in Lancashire - good for stock control as it's dense and thorny. I make new sloe gin each year and then leave it a few years to mature. So simple and so tasty, I can't wait to try these cocktails.
Choke cherries are so tart! We use them to make a wine here in New Mexico.
I have a bottle of Hayman's sloe gin knocking around in the cabinet, I think I'll make a couple of these tonight. Thanks, Anders!
So looking forward to fall. It has been very hot in Kansas.
I live in Brighton, UK and the Blackthorns on the South Downs are covered in Sloes right now
Sloe Gin Fizz was my mom's favorite drink. I learned how to mix it for her when she wanted one. I was about 15 years old then. She made one to her liking, and I tasted it to ensure I could match it. It must have been the "red medicine" stuff, as I never came around to liking it.
After trying your recipe, I can say my mom would have been overjoyed with how yours tastes!!
Just watched gin video and was going to comment ideas of where to use Navy Strength Gin. Got an answer!
I am from Romania and here sloes can be found everywhere. Long ago i was walking on the countryside with my mother and thought of mixing sloe berries with gin making one of the best beverages i've ever consumed and finding now it's so popular
Hey Anders! Could you maybe do a video on the history and tasting of different varieties of wines? Namely Sake?
Love a Fizz! I thought we were hitting fall finally, but its 90 here today...
Oof - no thanks. Stay cool Uncle Pete!
The captioning catching "digestif" as "DJ Steve" made my day 🤣🤣 as well as the awesome recipes of course!
i really like adding a bit of sloe gin in my daiquiris. i just recommend using a darker rum. Also same thing but with a bit of elderflower is my Girlfriend and my brother's favorite!
0:10 No!!! YOU shut up!!!
Yeah! Got him! ✊️
Sloe Gin! I tried and picked up a bottle of an artisanal Italian sloe gin when I was in Venice. My favorite cocktail I've tried with it is the San Francisco: it's equal parts sloe gin, sweet vermouth, and dry vermouth, with a dash of angostura and orange bitters and served with a Luxardo cherry. I think it's what I'll serve at my Christmas party this year.
Never tried the sloe gin (liqueur), so this seems as a perfect occasion to try it. This, as well as the Slow Negroni recipe I was planning to try during the Negroni week that just started. Cheers!
I actually had a 50 ml of sloe gin that has just been sitting there because I had no clue how to drink it. So thanks! It really was a very bright cocktail to try, I might pick up a bigger bottle!
Wooo the one with Cognac sounds delicious. I mean they all do but that one especially. Great video
Perfect for fall. Cheers Chris
After finishing this video I have officially watched, and liked, every video on this channel. It has truly been an enlightening experience and has helped me become a better home bartender.
I really like the small clear ice cubes you use for drinks in Collins glasses. Do you use a specialty ice maker?
Stawppp itttt..... I would like them all.
I would like to share with you my sloe gin fizz recipe gerrilla style. In Spain it is not so common to have a slow gin but in all homes is very common to have patxaran, a similar liquor but with an anise base.
---
Guerrilla preparation: without a shaker and without syrup
In a glass or jar, add the juice of half a lemon and half a tablespoon of white sugar. Stir with a spoon until the sugar dissolves.
Add the same amount of gin and stir.
Add the same volume of gin plus the lemon in patxarán. Stir or recap the jar and shake.
Cover the glass or jar with large ice.
Complete with bubbles (selzter water or even tonic or sifón)
Flavor the edge of the glass with lemon peel and drop it inside.
---
I've got similar recipe with patxaran, some spoons of amatetto and jinger ale, but for today.
Cheers
Alright..now I need to get a bottle of Sloe Gin... Thanks Anders. ;)
Ooohhh! These are yum! I actually used my homemade (your recipe) grenadine and bumped it up to 3/4 ounce for the Campari fizz…LOVE! Also used the grenadine for the others and it was delightful. This is a very cool format for making/adapting other liquors to typically low abv cocktails. Um…good format all around for tasty cocktails! Thank you 🍂🍸🍁🎃
sloe gin sounds like a great addition to a a french 75, both as a split base with cognac/gin or a replacement if you want something a little less dangerous
Great video
those collins glasses are awesome. Where'd you get them if you don't mind?
I will have to try this with Aperol as I don't own Campari :)
Can you possibly work out variations of some cocktails for those with nut allergies, stone fruit allergies, etc.?
We are currently serving af Sloe Gin Fizz, with Creme de Cassis, suuuper fruitty and well served for low abv fall cocktail 🥳
My great aunt would always send us choke cherry jelly and syrups for Christmas. They were so good!
Love choke cherry jelly. Haven't had it in years - need a great aunt
Choke cherry jelly/jam is the best!
Experimentation! Anders at his best. I just might try experimenting with the wide array of contemporary gins. I tend to just use London Dry (or Plymouth) since 95% of the specs I make call for the classic gin styles. Where to start? Where to start?
Sloe gin fizz was my cocktail of choice when I was in college some 40 odd(cough, cough) years ago. I'll have to try them again!🎉😊
You owe it to your younger self. Cheers
Wow, I was going to post something (cough, cough) similar.
It was my first taste of booze in HS except it was slo gin and sprite! I don’t think I’ve had it since and that was 1977 or 8?
Hi Anders, we make our own sloe gin and have done so for decades. Damson gin is almost as good but not as tart.
These fizzy cocktails appeal and thank you for the proportions.
Nick from York
Sloe Gin!! And feisty
The MOST Dad energy with that opening!
Still the best
Nice glassware
Anders, been following you for years. Great channel. Love it. One thing I just wonder - tell us about your nordic inheritance. How Swedish are you?
My Grandma Simons made the best chokecherry jelly.
My experience with sloe gin when I was younger was mixing up big batches of sloe comfortable screws, at parties. I've been thinking I need to get myself a bottle of sloe gin.
old attorney in our chicago office told me years ago that he drank sloe gin with Mountain Dew. Swore by it. Still need to try it out and this is the reminder to do so!
I have a riff on an espresso martini that I do where I replace the vodka with gin and instead of using the gin as the base, I use it as a modifier. I only use a half to 3/4 of an ounce and then I try to find a unique coffee liqueur that plays well with it.
I think we have wild Blackthorn in our area of Western North Carolina. You’re welcome to come and visit if you bring some good Polish sausage. Your cocktail might just reconcile us to the fact that there is no good Chinese restaurants in our area. We miss you, Sun Wah! (If you haven’t tried Sun Wah, time for a Duck dinner!) Pisco is something to be treated with caution. I lived in Peru for a while, so I know whereof I speak!
Also I wonder if crème de cassis + Plymouth gin would be good for a variation
I don't have sloe gin. I can't really get sloe gin unless I order it. I'm probably not gonna get it any time soon. But this was very fun to watch. I like the idea of substituting and adding and changing to make riffs. Now I wanna experiment with some of my liqueurs as well and make some cocktails.
We don't really get fall where I live, but excited to pretend there's a fall by making some of these drinks.
Ice quality test by the puppyyyy
Would really like to see your take on a "Debbie, Don't." It's my new favourite tequila cocktail, and is in the Fall category. Surprising and delicious, and readily available ingredients. I use El Jimador reposado, spicy notes, and reasonably priced.
Any chance if larger hoodies? 3x-5x?
First time I ever heard of a sloe gin fizz was on an episode of The Golden Girls where Blanche made one for a doctor Dorothy was dating. He ended up flirting with Blanche and being a creep while she was making the drink. Never tried one but I’ll be making one now that I know what’s in it!
That's great. Wish I could've grabbed a clip
So I had a sloe gin fizz for the first time & I loved it! I tweaked it & added 1/2oz of Hendricks Flora Adora gin. If anyone else has Flora Adora & trying to figure out how to get rid of it, add some to your sloe gin fizz!
This was the first drink I ever ordered in a bar (I was under aged at the time). We used to go to this one bar where they never id'd us. This was circa 1980. The bartender probably thought, what's the harm, there's not much alcohol in them.
Watching this (great job, as always) made me wonder: what if you made a buck with gin (or another spirit), lime juice, ginger ale/beer, and floated the sloe gin, a bit like an El Diablo. I may try this out, but I see what you mean about things like this inspiring new cocktail ideas! Excellent work!
Anders! Are you still behind the stick anywhere? I’m coming to Chicago on Sunday for riot fest and would love to meet you, Tis all
LIKE YOU LOTS GREAT PROGRAM THANKS FOR YOUR HELP
Hands down the best sloe gin on the market is Hepple Sloe & Hawthorn gin. It’s not overly sweet and it’s just the perfect balance!
Sloe Gin fizz with Port is fantastic for fall! It’s just 👌
Just did a recipe for this same drink on my insta!!! Great minds
Off to curiada for me. Cannot find Sloe Gin ANYWHERE in my neighborhood.
I love making Ramos Gin Fizz, so these variations with Sloe Gin seem like a lot of fun. Maybe a Sloe Campari Ramos Fizz?
