If I'm picking a starting 11 over the last 20 years, Yaya is one of my center mids. Can beat you from a set piece. Can beat you from distance. Can pick up the ball, run past your whole team, and score. Can distribute. And was so good defensively that he was actually a center back at one point. The thing I will always remember most about Yaya though was when City was ahead and the other team was pressing, they'd move Yaya forward and he'd burn 'em with an absurd run. Dude was just awesome.
All of his wisdom came from Barcelona. When he played as a central defensive midfielder behind Xavi and Iniesta, it's obvious that he mastered his position. He knew what to do, think and take action. He is, in my opinion, one of the most underrated midfielders of this era.

Those were my exact thoughts - for someone of his stature, you would assume or anticipate some lethargy or disconnect between his ball control, close control, dribbling ability and even passing/shooting, but he's so agile, so nimble and so balanced, which is what makes him a cut of cloth apart from the rest.
