- I hate the way you talk to me and the way you cut your hair. I hate the way you drive my car. I hate it when you stare. I hate your big dumb combat boots and the way you read my mind. I hate you much it makes me sick; it even makes me rhyme. I hate it, I hate the way you're always right. I hate it when you lie. I hate when you make me laugh, even worse when you make me cry. I hate it that you're not around, and the fact that you didn't call. But mostly I hate the way I don't hate you. Not even close, not even a little bit, not even at all.

Did you know that originally Kat was not supposed to cry reading her poem? Julia Stiles improvised because she felt it was more realistic; she claims the tears came naturally. The cast and crew were blown away, and the scene was done in one take, including Kat walking quickly out of the class. That means this reaction was Heath Ledger’s legitimate reaction. *swoon* (Thanks to Buzzfeed)
wow Even better
no wonder this particular scene moved me so much.
This just made me love it even more
wooowww
Always loved this scene but didn't know that. Thanks for the info
the way her voice cracks always gets me
Yes I start developing a knot in my throat all the time. Never fails
Yesss. When u try so hard not to cry but it happens naturally
This scene always makes me tear up. It's amazing how Julia Stiles didn't actually plan to cry while shooting this, it makes it so much more emotional.
I didn't know that. Wow, that makes this scene so much more emotional!
So true. Even i cry
me too ... every time ...

Especially when you consider the fact that Kat doesn't come across as someone who would do that in front of other people.
Heath ledger was a Beautiful man 😔
+Laura Reed He was indeed a beautiful man. Godly, I would say.
That's a fact... But he was a realy good actor too... Oh my God I miss him so much....😔😢
Yeah. I miss joker too.
I have seen this 1000 times because of him... I just love him.......💔
He was indeed and he had the voice of an angel (both speaking and singing)
"Lord, here we go..."
LOL
+sugamonster I love that part. LOL
Lol
The teacher was my favorite part of the movie.
The principal was the one that got me!😅 but this poem scene is for sure one of the most iconic of all time
That's the best English teacher a class can ever hope for
"lord here we go" when a student says she'll speak since no one else will.....ah yes best teacher
My willy fell off lol the first time I watched this I was in 6th grade, so when he said that I was like, hell yes, my teacher does that exact same thing when I say snarky comments under my breath. I used to sit in the back row so no one ever heard me but then I sat by where she lectured and where we would take notes.
Your willy fell off? That ain't good-put it back on!
"But mostly I hate the way I don't hate you; not even close, not even a little bit, not even at all."
Love that line
I hate the fact that when I watch this scene it makes me cry. But I hate more the fact that I don't it . Not a bit. Not at all. I actually love it.
Me 2
Smart words. Btw you are *PRETTY*
Marisol I just learned today that this scene was done in one take and Kat crying while reading the poem was not in the script. That was spontaneously done by Julia Styles.
triton2toro 😃
me :(
the poem is precious.
He was the most handsome guy in my childhood, even until now
Yesyes, this poem is great. Fuckin love it...but can we just take a minute to appreciate the teacher? Because he's seriously the greatest.
oh you mean that bitter shit talking teacher who acts like he knows everything in the fucking world??
Yeah he's a stellar fella!
He was kinda mean to that girl but he was really funny
Seb M did you even watch the mivie?
Even thinking about the fact that Heath is dead makes my stomach ache and I just want to cry
ugh same
Julia Styles is amazing for improvising the crying. Without it, Kat is just reciting a poem. What made it memorable is Kat’s walls are finally down. Her heart was broken again but she isn’t bitter. She’s able to forgive this time because she’s in love. It really sells her character growth.
I Hate The Fact That Heath Ledger Is Dead 😰😔
Oh mt god WHAT? WHEN?
+Sara O'Brein January 28 2008
+Sara O'Brein Were you joking? o.O
+Sara O'Brein did you not hear everyone in 2008 sad and complaining about "the joker" dying? He was the joker
me too.. I hate the way he died. I hate that I didn't knew him before dies. I hate him because I love him.. I hate him because he was the best joker ever. I hate him because he was beutifull. I hate him because he was good actor..... But the worse thing that I hate about him is that he is dead😔😢
My favourite part of this is when she finishes talking she waits for a moment to see if he says anything and only then does she walk out
Stephanie Bannon oh and that music too. So melancholy.
This hurts me everytime
Heath Ledger was so attractive it's unbelievable. This was the first movie I ever saw with Heath Ledger in it and my jaw dropped when he came on the screen. I wish I could have met him. I definitely would have congratulated him on his genes.
I love this comment 🤍
You sure you didn't watch the Dark Knight first like everyone else

@@winstonmarlowe5254 hahah Yes
During this scene the look on his face after she reads her peom is so forever stuck in my mind! Genuine look of sorrow!
If Julia Stiles was actually crying during this scene wouldn't that make Heath Ledger's reaction real too. Also how did she calm down after she walked out
The crying was not scripted
They say the crying wasnt scripted, but people always say the reaction was real too, but the reactions to stuff like this are always in a different take. This isnt a game/talk show they dont roll multiple cameras at once, especially on a set like that.
well when filming a movie, each angle is a different take. so even if the reading of the poem was a single take, the reaction was still done separately.
@@chiyanewman87 Yeah but not simultaneously
@@chiyanewman87 Mind blown! Didn't know that.
I'm remember watching this movie and my mom was like "That's Heath ledger" And my jaw dropped I was like "The Joker!?!?!!"
daaaammmmnnnn
well how old are you?
Same
Kayley Guidry what is the name of the movie
10 Things I Hate About You
Kayley Guidry could you tell me what's this move
Watching a dead actor on screen that died way too young is fucking depressing. Luckily none of the actors from my favorite movie (The Godfather) are dead so I can still enjoy it.
What are you talking about Marlan Brando is dead, The guy who played Fredo is dead. The guy who played Moe Greene is dead as well as in godfather 2 the guy who played Hyman Roth
I'm sure this was sarcasm
Aww I didn’t know he died
His eyes😍😍😍 They sparkle✨
I hope she didn't expect to get full credit walking out of the classroom like that.
This comment wins hands down!
@@amberpence8445, as an English teacher, I'd give full credit! Students need a moment after something that emotional. It's raw, human emotion. Let people own it without an audience.
Lol! This comment is still hilarious.
I hate it when you lie. I hate when you make me laugh, even worse when you make me cry. I hate it that you're not around, and the fact that you didn't call. But mostly I hate the way I don't hate you. Not even close, not even a little bit, not even at all.
years later and this scene still gets me :'(
I don't know what it is...it just KILLS me too. Always, every single time. Her hurt look, her voice crack...her vulnerability. This will get me until the stars burn out. So feel you.
It made me cry wen i heard this for the first time
I was watching the special features and the director said this is the first and only take they did for this scene, they weren't expecting her to have this much emotion. Made me love it even more!
This scene always makes me cry
Her eyes reflected all the feelings she was going through, disappointment, sadness, hurt but mostly, love for that person who couldn't hate not even a little, not even at all, that's great acting.
This scene was a kick in my stomach when i first saw it, and man, i gotta say, it still is. I feel like this girl for years, gosh, i need get out more often.
it always makes me cry. one of my favorite movies in the 90s
same here.. and im a fuckin guy
Alex Korobkov same here. I'm a straight guy as well. It is a great movie. No, it is a great *film*
no matter how many times i watch this id still hate that english teacher for hating kat
I knew better than to watch this shit while being pregnant. Of course I cried. Damn you beautiful people. Damn you.
New moms are the ultimate in beautiful people... so who is calling the kettle...
well you know... smile.. mom ... life is awesome.... tears fears and all...

Best comment ever! 😂😂😂

Nice! to completely different lives after highschool.
Eyyyyyy I see what you did there
Jgl played an amangulamation of Batman's Robin in The Dark knight Rises
Crying right now cuz I know exactly how that feels! Beautiful acting btw
Julia Stiles,what a great actress.
***** indeed ☺
I had the biggest crush on her after I seen this
She will always be remembered with Matt Damon in the Bourne trilogy
I am currently listening to this on repeat cause it sounds just like how I feel
The moment I just broke down
I did this monologue for a public speaking unit in my Social Studies class and I cried when she did without even planning to but it's just THAT moving
What were people's reaction?
They kinda shed a tear or their eyes watered for the most part... My best friend Mateo bawled for like 5 minutes though... I guess he's kinda got a soft spot.
Wow, you are truly courageous. I'm not lying that is freaking awesome 😁😢
^ Thank You :-)
Alisa Thiel no prob 😊
Quite a funny and entertaining movie, but this scene is one of the best....pure emotion...
me and my girlfriend watched this together last night. my girlfriend who never cries at anything cried during this scene
She is such an amazing actress
Favorite part of the whole scene "Lord here we go!"
1:33 the guy at the back row with the Mohawk looks 40 years old wtf is he doing in a high school I
+CoordinatorHikari~ He failed... a lot

Heath fucking Ledger man... God he was so hot.
And amazingly talented too!
With out a doubt
So is Julia Stiles. Rest in paradise Heath, what an extremely talented actor

Daniel Baudelaire Wow, u watched it too?

Heath's probably thinking, "Why so serious?"
😂😂😂😂😂👍 nice one
Ben Cramer lmao
“He comes at me with the knife. Why so serious? Let’s put a smile on that face!”
I love this movie so so much, however I think the plot was not fully exploited. The movie lasts one hour and a half (roughly), and I think it could go deeper into the characters lives. Like what happened to Kat's mom, how does she and Patrick deal with going away to college etc... I would've like to see more of Patrick and why he's so “anti-social”.
Also, to me, it felt like the ending was a bit rushed, she reads the poem and then forgives him easily, I was not expecting her to make him grovel or even to be mad at him for a long time but I feel like something was missing, more insight into the characters lives, personalities etc.
I still loved this movie, and this poem is still one of my favorites!
whats the film called please?
10 things I hate about you, its awesome you really should see it
I thought the same... we should see each other..
Its really based off a w.Shakespeare play called taming of the shrew
I don't think those were necessary for the plot. It's perfect as it is. Nice balance imo.
This scene always gets to me & always has me tearing up. I relate to Julia Stiles' character in this film. The most recent relationship I had - off & on - for the past three years - the guy hurt me with his actions, behavior, conduct, & words many times. Kind of like how Julia Stiles' character was hurt by what Heath Ledger's character did. Like Julia Stiles' character, I rarely enter relationships with many guys. Only like one guy every several years or so. It's very hard for me to let my walls & defenses down for a guy. So, once I put my trust in someone, I give completely, etc. So, I understand how hurt Julia Stiles' character was in this film. She hates some of Heath Ledger's conduct, actions, words, & behavior, BUT she still LOVES & LIKES him as a human being, & is sad when he's not around to keep her company & be with her. That's exactly how I feel about the recent guy. I like & love the recent guy no matter what, despite everything he has done to hurt me & others. I like & love him as a person, I just don't like some of his behavior, actions, words, & conduct sometimes. Anyways, this poem makes me tear up many times. You can hear & see the hurt Julia Stiles' character is going through. And those who have no compassion or empathy wouldn't understand the pain & hurt she is going through. This poem sums up how I'm feeling about that recent guy right now as well. You miss the person, still love & like the guy despite all of the hurt & pain he has caused. And don't take for granted when a gal who rarely enters relationships with any man shows you so many times how much she loves you & has been there for you, yet you have hurt her with your actions. Also, that English teacher was rude to Julia Stiles' character. Anyways, this was a very memorable, emotional, & priceless scene. And I still consider Heath Ledger one of the best actors. RIP, Heath Ledger.
You probably would relate to other Shakespeare Romances. I would suggest you check them out.
D.L. Elliott Yes, I have read other works from Shakespeare, & I do relate to the romances in his works - the passion, the romance, the tragedy, the depth & rollercoaster of emotions, etc. Thanks for your recommendation, anyways. And thanks for posting. Have a nice weekend, & a good 2015. Take care!
VelvetGal5 You do know "10 Things I Hate About You" is "Taming of the Shrew" by Shakespeare correct? Just as "O" is "Othello" and "Scotland, PA" is "Macbeth"
D.L. Elliott Yes, I do know that. Have a nice evening.
It gets to alot of guys too they are just more reluctant to admit to it..
this teacher was awesome. I wish I had him
this poem is so impressive
I hate the way you talk to me and the way you cut your hair. I hate the way you drive my car. I hate it when you stare. I hate your big dumb combat boots and the way you read my mind. Copy cat
Always cry so much at this.
Anything with Heath in it reduces me to tears now. His dreams, ambitions, his ideas, his journey. What great passion for life he had at this point. What great promise. That music at the end also gutted me. Sometimes I feel like I'm irreparably depressed and heartbroken over him.
Please God gives us back Heath in exchange for Justin
😅
+EmeraldCity LOL xD
Ashley Marks What is that, like 6 for the price of 1? Not a bad trade
heck yeah!! bring heath back😂
emcravescrazy Chill out; it's a joke.
The feels man this made me cry
well... i almost cried in this scene :')
so beautiful and true
I kinda relate to myself. I've been having a crush on someone for a while, and despite knowing his unfaithfulness to his current girlfriend and the way he plays with other girls' emotion, even mine, I just can't force myself to stop. There were times I thought I had got over him, but when i looked at him, i just knew that I'd been fooling myself and all the walls I'd built up just broke down.
I had a similar problem that arose from my jealousy. I was going out with a girl. Her best friend was an ex of hers, she used to go out and get with him and she once admitted to dancing with a stranger in a club. Did anything more happen? I don't know. I don't know if she was cheating on me. I don't know if she had ever cheated on me. All I know is that she was the love of my life. And I also know I couldn't trust her. I remain to this day a broken man. I haven't spoken to her since then and I don't plan to. I am forever put off commitment yet I still think of the same girl that I couldn't trust. Everyday, all day she's in my head. This girl managed to single handedly ruin me. Don't let that boy do the same. You will hate yourself for it
I know how it feels... There's this guy who's been in my music class since the beginning of the school year. I really thought he liked me. Until he asked out my friend, which I kind of find funny because he gave me his number before he gave it to my friend. But it's hard to tell when it comes to guys. One day you think he's in love you,and the next day, you think he hates your guts. I'm not telling you that I know LOTS about boys, being as I'm only an eighth grader..... But I AM a hopeless romantic, who has been through about as much as a real relationship.
Just like everyone else here, i can relate to your story. I've had a crush on this guy for over a year on and off. He knew this too but he just never gave me a chance. Recently since school started back, we text every now and then. I don't see him like i used to because our classes are completely different so the only way i could see him is outside of school. We hung out last weekend and kissed but the next day he seemed so uninterested and annoyed. I feel so heartbroken all over again because i just want this chance to make him mine but he's not letting me..
I can relate. The same thing is happening to me. I believe he was being unfaithful to his current girlfriend (they keep breaking up and going back together tho) but not in the physical way. He was developing feelings for this other girl in my class and flirted with her. But he doesn't play with girl's feelings, I think. He did give me mixed signs, he was flirting with me, he was nicer than usual, he talked to me often, he gave me so many signs that I know meant something. But I think he tried to stop that. And then he came to me for advice with his gf and this girl he was liking, he told me stuff and i helped him which hurt. And we were super close and had so much fun together. But over the summer, he was closer than ever with his gf and didn't talk to me anymore. Thoug once he texted me and i replied but he didn't answer ? Then the next day he did the same, but i did give him an answer that you wouldnt reply to kind of one. And now we're on the same class with the girl he liked.
He didnt talk to her the first few weeks but now they are talking a lot and every time he talks to me she interrupts us. Ugh. And he isnt like he used to be me with me last year. We are not very close anymore and it freaking sucks.
This scene still gets me almost 20 years after the first time seeing it
I love the poem, its shows that she cares about him even if he completely opposite of her. He completes her
That's 12 things...
but oh my god this scene hurt!! x(
unlike other teen movies, this has stood the test of time: i love it as much now as back when it was first released
" I hate when you make me laugh, even worse when you make me cry. I hate it that you're not around"
This is how I feel about Heath, amazing man and the most talented actor. We'll miss you Heath
Teacher did a great Joker impression. Here. We. Go.
I hate that this relates to everyone in my life
Never watched this but that made me cry
When i watched this movie , I wasn't sad until this scene. I cried with her. When i saw the Heath Ledger photo on my wall it made me cry even more.
This scene makes me cry every time!
No, I'm not crying, there's just something in my eye, and what a coincidence, something in my other eye as well.
The way she looks at him with eyes full of tears ! Oh mann that would hurt me
That "even worse when you make me cry" line gets me EVERY. TIME!!
now i will never be able to look at this scene the same way ever again.. thank you so much...
Why do all the good people have to die early?
+harrystylesismylovee “Mom, why do the best people die?”
“When you’re in a garden, which flowers do you pick?”

There are so many emotions in the scene:')
My favourite ever part of any movie ever. This girl acted this part to perfection. The poem was perfect, I always tear up when I watch this.
i love that poem. it's so true we've all been there before. it's simple but i love it
ouch wtf im too hardcore for these tears bye
Makes me cry every god damn time. :'(
Okay, this will always be my best definition of love. Also, I love that this was the point in the movie where you finally get the title. She says ten amazing things she hates about him
20 years later and still we love this
I hate that I can relate to this so much right now!!
Even just watching this, makes me cry every time!
It's amazing how she owns up her feelings in front of everyone.
I really don't remember when I saw this movie. May be I was a little teenager. I remember me getting emotional at this scene.. I hate it when you make laugh and the worse when you make me cry. 😊
heath ledger was a good actor even a knights tale was good
Dang sand in my eye *rubs*
Just the fact that She doesn't hate Joseph Gordon-Levitt, no even a close, not even at all, not even a little bit. 💀💀💀
I think the part that gets me most is when we see Heath's face.... I was already crying a little when she started but to see his face was so much more heartbreaking , he was amazing and always will be , thanks for such an amazing movie :) lost count of how many times i have watched it
I don't hate you , not even close , not even a little bit , not even at all . Damn. I hope you will read it Soon
breaks my soul every time
I hate the fact that i cried everytime i rewatch this
Love this scene, love this film!! Forgotten classic of my generation!
I love this movie
Thanks Buzzfeed. I didn't remember any of the fucking poem.
Now I'm Crying. I love this actress& Heath Ledger. Both Beautiful. Loved this movie too.❤😃
Whenever I'm moody and need a good cry, I play this scene. Such a great performance!
