Had the bow set up at a pro shop. It performed just fine czcams.com/users/postUgkxQEKUoxLWwayEDZR0NKB-5limn4MBU-2L . And I would say this is a good starting now that I could pass down to my son when he is older. But the package was missing the release and a nock was missing from one arrow.Dealing with customer support was terrible. They suggested I buy a new release rather than correct their own quality control issue because it’s to expensive for the. to ship it out from China.Update: manufacturer got back to me and resolved the issue. I retract the above statement.

I'm not a hunter, but I've been a compound archer for quite some years. 2 of the "non negociables" accessories aren't always required for doing compound archery (what this video is mostly about)
    - Release: with your type of bow, that gets very narrow at the nocking point, yes a release will be needed, but with other bows, you can perfectly shoot without a release, just your fingers (of course protected by a glove or tab). It really depends on the type and model of bow if you **need** a release, or if you **can use** one.
    - sight: it's a tool that helps you, but you can absolutely shoot arrows accurately too without a sight
Other than that, very good video :)

May I make a suggestion for you , look into the Bowtech infinite edge bow, it's very compact ,light, and most of all its very adjustable for draw length, and poundage of pull, as your strength increases you can up the pull on the bow, it's a bow that anyone can grow with, also affordable, you can add better gear as you get better, better sights, ect.also buy new so you don't buy problems , some used bows will need news strings bearings ,have been dry fired which can totally ruin a bow, learn the safety of using it and maintaining it like inspecting and waxing of strings, not hard to do hope you have a great experience

FYI New Bowhunters: For about $375, you can get a great compound bow with infinitely adjustable draw lengths & weights, fully loaded (stabilizer, sight, arrow rest, etc...), arrows and a case. It's a Diamond Infinite Edge Pro by Bowtech. It was my first bow and I got my first deer with it (a big 6 point buck) 6 weeks after picking up a bow for the first time in my life and putting in hours of time at the range for practice. When you upgrade from it, you can pass it on to a younger hunter because it can be drawn down to much lighter weights & shorter draw lengths.
Now I shoot a Mathews with all the prime accessories.

Depending on what local shop you take it to (not cabellas, not bass pro, not sportsman's warehouse, and not academy sports) they generally give you life time tune ups. If you get a RTH or ready to hunt package, you don't have to buy all those accessories. Don't buy an online bow. Buy it in person. Hopefully at a local archery store, not a franchise.

This video was amazing! You totally read my mind about Craigslist... I'm ALL about that craigslist for most stuff but def not the best place for getting your first bow! My biggest learning moment so far has been my sight. I learned very quickly that the "bang on some plastic until you are sighted in" was not for me. I upgraded right away to a micro adjustable sight because in the long run I'll have more time to shoot my bow! Thanks for the awesome video!

Absolutely right and I would highly recommend the additional expense of buying a bow press and doing that maintenance yourself because 700.00 up front is a cry once deal than spending that more in the long run. Yes I recommend all hunters get the rangefinders. If you have to guess the distance fine but it’s good to have the option of getting near dead on accurate ranges. Great video and awesome advice thank you.

Good video. Definitely a lot of good things to think about when starting out. One thing I would like to point out is in the beginning when you're talking about equipment. The first choice someone needs to decide is whether to go instinctive or not. I bought a used bowl that had all the bells and whistles on it and was shooting decently but not great. I stripped everything off except for the drop-down arrow rest and stabilizer, and just went with a leather fingered glove and my grouping improved by inches. Some people can just shoot better like that. And it definitely helps to save on cost. Just something to think about

OK let me just say this as a tip and trick do your research on the bow she makes alot of good points like the draw length however the draw weight isn't as big as a problem most people go for a 70pound draw weight if you struggle to pull it back it just means you need to train yourself and trust me it pays off. Like I said do your research know everything about the bow including what every little part does and you can maintain it and service it yourself it's great fun I find alot of joy doing it. Learn to tune it yourself it's really fun to learn and only you will beable to get it just how you like it things will need to be replaced eventually but if you teach yourself how to do it trust me it works out alot cheaper.

Hey Allie, love your videos. I shot some arrows today for the first time, however, it was a 65lb draw weight and I couldn’t even draw by myself, had to get my man to help me get to point where I could hold, aim and shoot.
Now searching for a bow that will suit me. I am thinking a 50lb, don’t want to get a junior though as I am a fully grown woman 🤣
Also, my forearm is purple from the slap after that first release.
