    I wanna say that your tutorials (as well as a few from other channels) have almost single handedly motivated me to dive into SUP surfing. All I have for now is a large 11' iSUP (irocker nautical) so I'll try to use it to learn the basics first and maybe transition to a rigid board over the next months. I'm sure this is going to be a super fun journey. Thanks for all your tips and motivatipn!

      @@SUPboardermagSo I really didn't want to wait much and went ahead and bought a much smaller and rigid board a few days ago. First day was mostly re-learning all the very basics. Second day I spent a couple hours exclusively trying to learn how to paddle out over whitewater using techniques from your videos. Needless to say I fell more times than I could count, but I did manage to paddle up and through some challenging waves. That feeling of "Holy cow, I really did go through that one without falling!" was the best. Luckily I live two blocks from the beach and my work schedule allows me to go surfing a couple hours every other morning, so I will have plenty of time to practice. I'll be rewatching your videos every night for a while :) Thanks again! Pablo

    Hmm. This is a eventual goal. One that I will have to look at it. Surf stance on Paddle board - I'm not yet standing up on the paddle board longer than 9 seconds. In calmer waters. It's not one I will rush into doing. Sea paddle boarding I'm a long way from this point in time. Confidence in standing up longer than the 9 seconds I spoke of. Is my own greater priority.

      Great, you can do it and catch a wave in parallel stance but you will catch why more waves like this.

    @sergecartwright Před 5 lety +3

    Hey there. Love the channel . If I’ve missed it let me know but I’d be very keen to see a video about etiquette in the line up specifically for sup surfers. For example, what are your views on sup surfing a peak crowded with lots of surfers? Obviously I try to avoid this but sometimes literally every peak is crowded so you have no choice. However much I try to be considerate in these situations, I tend to find that I end up having some kind of run in with a shortboarder and wind up surfing a separate way less good peak or just paddling in and quitting for the day. I feel like even respectful sup surfers get a hard time in these situations. Should we stand our ground or be driven away? Looking for empty peaks or getting up at dawn isn’t always possible so can sup surfers mix happily with normal surfers? I’d also like to know what to do if you catch a wave and then find others paddling back out in front of you. Is it their responsibility to duck under or yours to avoid them? I always end up jumping off when they don’t seem to be about to duck under. Again, I wonder if different rules apply to sup surfers...

    • @SUPboardermag
      @SUPboardermag  Před 5 lety +1

      Hi Serge, There are several features on this on SUPboardermag.com - reach "etiquette" in the search bar of the SUPboarder website. Will | SUPboarder

    • @modernvintage1
      @modernvintage1 Před 2 lety

      Serge, as a new Sup surfer but long time surfer I always appreciated it when a SUP would move from peak to peak and not just sit on my peak. I hope that makes sense but I think you get it. Good luck, keep sliding

    • @sergecartwright
      @sergecartwright Před 2 lety

      @@modernvintage1 Yeah, that does make sense. As my skills have improved I've actually become able to co-exist more happily with surfers who can see that I'm not a threat. Combination of chatting more, sitting down on my board in the line-up and letting several waves go before I catch my first. The one situation that is outright dangerous when SUP surfing is when you have to bail as a big wave comes in that you can't paddle through. There is no way to do this safely with lots of surfers around.

    I prefer to jump-reposition my feet first into surf stance in the middle of the board and then step again to finish the adjustment. This way I never rock my board with putting all my weight on one side.

    When I try to surf, the board often seems to get swept out from under me resulting in a fall off the back. Do you have any pointers to stop this from happening?

    • @SUPboardermag
      @SUPboardermag  Před 4 lety +1

      Hey Rudy. 2 pointers .... 1, try and get in a good surf stance with bent legs when paddling for the wave.
      2, Try and get more paddle speed up before the wave comes. This will make the transition onto the wave easier because your board wont get pushed from out under your feet so much. Let me know if this helps? Thanks Reuben

    What about the hybrid stance ?

    • @SUPboardermag
      @SUPboardermag  Před 5 lety +1

      Very good comment. If you can master the surf stance on flat water you will be able to do the hybrid stance for sure. The surf stance covered in this video will also help you understand the idea of board trimming for speed and maneuverability which we will be covering in the next video in the series.
      For those who don't know the hybrid stance is a combination of the true surf stance and a normal parallel paddling stance. Well noted gbthrylos

    How about on 14 feet or longer boards, I should be more towards the tail end, right?

    • @SUPboardermag
      @SUPboardermag  Před 5 lety

      Even though you are on a longer board you stay in the same place on flat water. The board needs to be kept flat the length of the board doesn't come into it. Good question that one.
