Just got this since it’s on sale for 10 bucks on the Xbox store and I love it. I played it with my dad when I was younger and he always had to do that stamp part where you sell them and I could never do it. He passed a year ago and last night I had a cry cause I completed it first try without his help. I think he’d be proud.

Mafia 2 and LA Noire. Two of my favorites. Both set in the mid-late 1940's both are great games.

L.A Noire had potential to be a great game but it's so repetitive I didn't even bother to finish the game because it's so boring.

This game i got a refund on, it sets its to low, and i refuse to play at, the fps is so bad, and i have a good rig stuff them

I just have to say, anyone who hasn't played Mafia 2 needs to go change that, be it now or wating for the Mafia 1 Remake to drop first. Don't let this slightly disappointing upgrade to the game fool you out of getting it. This game is a masterpiece, an experience, whatever you do do not miss it!

Hey i started the game on ps3 But never ended up finishing it and I would love to now but I was wondering what does you recommend I play it on I have a ps4 pro and a PC with a i9 9900k and a 1080ti I know generally PC is better but I just got this PC and I Want to enjoy the game without any headaches or hiccups so what would recommend??

@@slyzillatv196 Looks like they've included the originals in the definitive edition (remasters) so when you buy the new ones you get the classic edition as well. From there you can pick which version you want to play.

Physx is outdated all the physics are still there just physx has been faced out nothing has been removed. People just want to complqin about everything for the sake of complaining.
I dumped so many hours in this as a kid and I remember turning 14 and my mom was excited to tell me I could finally play it not knowing I had secretly downloaded it years before
This reminds me of when the first Assassins Creed released and I was 12 years old and my mom said I couldn’t play it but I convinced my dad to get it for me because I said it was historical and would help me learn haha

Exactly, played it last year, it was gooood visualy, and cut content is welcomed. The only problem with modding it is that you cant mod the game if it changes same file, its a big bummer. 😥

The Friends for Life mod is fan made and does not include the cut content. It is all made up.

Mafia 2 always brings back a flood of memories of growing up in Old Chicago. The architecture of the buildings in Old Chicago was very similar to that of buildings in New York, at least as presented in Mafia 2.

I can't hide my hype with Mafia 1 remake, but looking how disappointing Mafia 3 is and also the let down of this definitive edition just worries me, especially since we are talking about 2K here, they made a lot of mess when publishing games recently..
I suspect Mafia DE will be bad. Mafia 3 physics, no steering wheel support, thrown away countryside and Freeride Extreme.

Well 2k may be a hurry burry kind of company but with Hanger 13 their experience wrt Mafia3 I think they have learnt their lesson hope, it won't repeat again. I am more concerned about the lip sync issue of 2002 Mafia, is resolved by the collaboration. Let us all hope for the best.

I love the original version of the Game I can replay it many times and never get bored. The story, characters, and the missions are what makes the game for me it’s a true masterpiece I want to pick up the remaster to just play it again with better graphics and detail. It’s a true masterpiece of a game. I played it all in two days meaning I sat in my ass for 3 hours 30 minutes a day having one of the best experiences of my life.
Tbh it doesnt deserve the remaster title. Its just a new version.

People saying it is a remake when it just isn’t. A remake would be like Final Fantasy VII, or even Halo 2 anniversary (brand new engine and graphics), this is closer to a remaster, but not quite, it is more of a port with a few twitches that aren’t worth the price tag.

Since he's mostly talking about the PC version, here's my notes from the PS4 version.
Framerate issues: Just driving through traffic lowers the framerate considerably to aggravating lows.
Collision not loading on the ground: I can't even finish Chapter 3 since one of the checkpoints is on a spot of land that won't load. I continously fall through the floor.
2K linking: The top right of the screen shows that my profile is linked, but won't go away, even in cutscenes.

How bout the audio mixing?
I tried this game a couple months ago on PS4 pro and the audio mixing was terrible. Randomly loud cutscenes out of nowhere, I’m talking deafeningly loud. And 2k has never taken the time to go back and fix it either. Don’t buy this game.

Have to agree that the "linear" game play in a open world environment really is refreshing. Epically after recently finishing AC Odyssey with all the DLC. I mean sometimes huge sandbox open world games are just too overwhelming at times.

This is one of those games I completely fell in love with. I've come back to this game over and over again. I'm excited to install the definitive edition.
One of the smaller changes but one of my favorites is that some store fronts have interiors with people eating or shopping in them or barber shops with people getting their haircut.

No. No it's not. 4k resolution and hdr10 support wasn't really there in 2010.
The improvements are marginal, not worth it honestly. With out the Dlc its like a 6 hour game with little to nothing to do after you beat the story.

The game is full of glitches and a lot of lagg. I can't finish chapter 15 because I can't drive to the observatory because if I go near it I fall through the map.

You telling me after 10 damn years this game still has the map problem I remember it used to always do that on ps3 I feel ripped off cause I seen mafia 2 remastered and instantly bought it now i feel dumb as hell. Even the graphics aint all I expected, in the 2nd chapter it still has the guy cutting and eating nothing at the shipyard. I should have just played my old copy on ps3.

PS4 has massive frame rate issues, dropping into the 10s every 15 seconds or so. Also for some reason all cutscene audio only plays on my left headphone, its a shame because i love the original game

This is one of my favorite games still. It’s not a perfect game by any means but I had great fun with it. Mafia can be a bit of a letdown in some areas, but I’ve always enjoyed their stories

For me, when joe game me the money for Bruno the cut scene played twice and it gave me 3 times the money it was supposed to. Needless to say, I was loaded for a good while

I'm currently playing the classic version of Mafia II on PC...and absolutely love the story and its linearity. The radio's music is amazing and the whole environment is such a mood. Especially the Shawshank references!
I love this game so much. I had a ps3 and didn't have much money. So, I downloaded the demo for this game and I used to play it a lot. Just running away from cops for hours in a limited section of NY. And it was so much fun.

Ive played through the story mode of this game more than im proud to admit.
Eh, a minor correction: the game isn't initially post-WW2. it's _during_ WW2, Vito gets sent home temporarily on medical leave and Joe pulls strings to have him be medically discharged with honors, thereby ending his military service early. It only becomes post-war when the game jumps to 1951.

I remember playing it on the 360 years ago I loved the speed limit system on it it’s weird but I kinda wish more games had it instead of just going fast as possible mafia 2 did it right then
I know right it just ads a bit more believability to the world when the cops are so much more pItty about speeding and running red lights.
Mafia 1 did it even better, running a red light could also get you a ticket if seen by the cops, or driving on the sidewalk...
Honestly I see a lot of people complain but I really enjoy going back and playing a game I haven't touched in years. The story still has me playing it like it was just released and yes their is some bugs/glitches but im sure only time will fix those the game just came out this week...

Already bought the trilogy, but man they need to patch the Audio only coming out temhe left speaker. Such a huge oversight. Back when there were game testing phasing, stuff like this never happened back in the day.

Yes it did, Mafia 1 was unplayable for many, many people well until the 2nd patch arrived about a year later. And I'm not talking about the game breaking track-racing bug, but hardware compatibility.

Gaming A.D.D.iction the sound is crab. They must fix this The dialogue sounds in the cutscenes are really bad. Only on the left side. But for the PC everything is OK. This thing happens only on consuls.

Thanks for the review Gameranx. I played the first one years ago but never finished it. I finished the second one and enjoyed it. I rented the 3rd one to check it out. It was alright. Looking forward to the remaster of the first one. Looking to finally finishing it.
For anyone playing this on PS4 Pro and experiencing frame drops, try turning off boost mode in the settings. I think I found that helps keep the frame rate more stable but it definitely does not fix it.

I’ve been playing this game on and off since yesterday on an original Xbox one and it’s been fine apart from the Cops on the jewellery store mission getting stuck in the stairway when you’re trying to escape, would of loved them to clean up the shooting mechanics a little bit otherwise I’d say it’s a solid upgrade to the original, I forgot how amazing the game actually is!

I loved this game and played it the most when I got my ps3 originally for Christmas in 2013 I got the game with my console and literally played nothing but mafia! Great game now even 12 almost 13 yrs later it’s still a game worth playing even without the remaster!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think everyone on the PS4 is experiencing that issue. When I got it yesterday I thought it was just my PS4 and I spent a great deal of time on my audio settings and NOPE... Nothing!! It sucks because I wanted this game for the dialogue.
Two-Fifty Gaming oh yeah, if there’s one thing I remember hard from mafia 2 growing up was the dialogue, it’s written really well with great leads and lovely grounded but well acted performances. Still it is frustrating that the remaster has a lot of issues.
One of my favorite things about mafia 2 is that you can legit play through the whole game without needing to spend any money so long as you’re fast enough to rob each store and steal the stuff they have available. Only things I ever paid for was vehicle upgrades and weapons from Henry
i already had the original installed on my machine, its one of my favorites, so ill just keep that one instead. it is really nice that i have the new one free though, i appreciate moves like that.

I only have Mafia 3, so i'm really excited to play the first two parts cause i never played them. Is the second one only available digital or can i buy it physical as well?

I’m halfway through, and although I’m loving playing this classic again, I’m struggling to see how this is even classed as a remaster. They have pretty much just updated the shaders and that’s it. I’m playing on PS4 Pro and I’m seeing nothing but technical issues. Frame rate drops during cutscenes, out of sync cutscenes, messed up deadzones for the controllers. The core gameplay is still as good as ever, but this feels even worse to play than the classic. I’m not sure if they rushed this, in order to get it out with the Mafia remake announcement, but I really hope that’s the case, and they will be working to fix a lot of the issues soon. But overall, even without the plethora of technical issues, this is still one of the sloppiest remasters I’ve ever seen.
Go look at a side by side they completely redid most of the characters faces new lighting sharper textures and the streets and vehicles look way better

hi is it really worth buying mafia ii for the ps4 i really love playin it on my ps3 is the graphics any better? ive also seen the 1st 2-3 given reivews of definitive edition they had released for both ps4 & pc where they showed a lot of bugs that appeared in game..even in between cut scenes im thinkin of buyin the ps4 along with COD- ww2 so just thought id ask.
This game doesnt need any remaster, graphics has aged quite well. Im looking forward first Mafia remaster.

Adding some files with slightly higher res, tuning a few gfx details, and adding better anti-aliasing is not a remaster.
Mafia 1 is a remaster, it revived an amazing game from my childhood, and it did so perfectly. Mafia 1 got a true remaster, mafia 2 got 30 minutes in the wash to polish it a bit. That is no remaster.

Maybe it's time to upgrade to a better tv/ console. On a Xbox one x the jump to 4k with hdr10 is pretty dramatic...

I played Mafia 3 when it came out on ps4 and I really loved it. Now recently I have been thinking about buying it on the pc and replaying it. And now with the definitive additions of Mafia 1 and 2, two games that I haven't played but would love too, so I am thinking of buying them all for the pc. But will it affect the story of the 3 games if I play them in the wrong order? Like 3 then 2 and then 1? Idk how much of them that are connected?
Idk if you'll read this comment now and most probably you have played it now, but yes these three games are connected. Vito scaletta who is the protagonist of mafia 2 is in all three games. And mafia 2 is one of top favourite games of all time.
What would have been cool if they added some of the cut content for the open world aspect.
