(IB veterans are probably laughing at me for that lol) your videos have been super helpful in calming my nerves, helping me understand what IB was all about before I decided it was the path for me, and generally just making me feel like I have a cool older sister to help me through the whole thing. Thanks for all that you do!!💕💕

    Thank u so much! I really needed to hear this... I had a formative math test last week and I got 15 marks out of 32 when the whole class pretty much got full marks. I was pretty bummed about it and felt dumb for some reason and very disappointed of myself... I was already putting pressure on myself and overthinking because of this one test. Now I’ve calmed down and I think I’m gonna keep my head up again and learn to be a learner as u said 🤗

Furthermore, I have to start preparing for my exams in May and there is a lot of pressure into doing well in those as well as doing very well for IA's as I don't know whats going to happen so I need to prepare for the worse right now.

      @@dennisysj8868 we need an update

    • @dennisysj8868
      @dennisysj8868 Před 2 lety +3

      @@NahhFam I finished the IB! Thankfully I managed to pass. Honestly finishing the IA’s weren’t actually the hard part, it was taking the time to just sit down and focus on doing it without stressing out about everything else on my todolist. I found that Math IA was the hardest thing to have a topic for and complete, overall exams were alright, they aren’t unreasonably difficult if you take the time to study the topics properly and practice 3-4 past papers for each subject(at least that was my experience).
      I don’t regret doing the IB even though it was hell to get through, essays in universities feel more like second nature to finish, and referencing is a breeze, while others who don’t have that experience tend to struggle more, however one bad thing about IB is being unlucky with the teachers your have, they are probably the most important part. For example, I took SL Math AA, HL Physics and HL Chem; during IGCSEs chemistry was my weakest science, with Maths being at an average of 80% and Physics my strongest. But during IB, My math teacher was absolutely terrible, so most thing I did in math had to be self learnt at home as nothing was learnt in class(except what topics to cover), therefore, my grades suffered and work quickly pilled up because of the extra time I had to spend learning topics myself. Math quickly became one of my weakest subjects, but not just because of my teacher but also because it led me to lose my confidence in math, not being able to understand the concepts, so I actually started to avoid doing a lot of practice for math which in turn really made my grades go down. This was the same for physics, they were now my weakest subjects. However, chemistry became my strongest subject, having 2 teachers as compared to only 1 for physics and 1 for maths, my chemistry teacher had a good synergy on teaching their side of topics, as they linked their lessons pretty well and a lot or if not all of their material they went through had reason and importance to my understanding, making the learning process 10x easier.
      Personal traits
      IB was really challenging for me, as I procrastinated a lot( probably the most in my year) I missed almost half of my assignment deadlines and was the most unorganized member in the 45 people in the IB Diploma, however I looked for help from good teachers and managed to help my situation, in the end I ended up with a solid 32 points, which isn’t the best score, but considering on how much content i missed and how much i didn’t learn, i came out IB with an alright score, and it still got me to my desired university in Canada. But I must say that it was probably the hardest shit i’ve ever been through, and I never want to go through that again( imagine being stressed about 23 overdue Assignments and 8 upcoming assignments with 3 topic tests the following week, I only had a weekend to finish them, that was in term 1 in Y13 or second year IB) so please, when your in first year, don’t be fooled by the easy feeling in the first month, or the feeling that it wasn’t as hard as you thought, because this will be the death of your mental health otherwise. You dont have to study 24/7, no you don’t have to be on top of everything at all times, and no you don’t have to be the smartest person on earth, all you have to do is make sure you learn, and to not give up on yourself when going through your courses.
      Also the EE i did was in English, which wasn’t my plan, i wanted to do a computer science EE, but it was full cause i didnt act fast enough, i then went to psychology, but then their were to many people, so they pushed me to english, which was a subject i didn’t really have a fondness for but I was alright in. Because of this I didnt have any motivation to do the EE, so i finished it the week before the due date with almost 0 feedback, and only meet up with my supervisor 3 times. In the End i only got a C. As compared to my TOK essay, associating it with psychology and other sciences really helped me. And only having feedback for my TOK essay 3 times as well, I managed to score an A. So make sure you have your mind made up in the subject you want to do your EE in quickly.
      Sorry for the tangent.
      TL:DR
      IB was in my experience, quite hard, but despite all you hear about it, everyone who did IB, were happy they did. It teaches so many valuable skills. Anyways, finishing my EE took about 3 days, finishing all my IA’s took a total of 44 hours in total, and my TOK essay 3 drafts and 2 all nighters. I got an A in my TOK essay, and my IAs were said to be at above average(except for mathematics). Anyways, the mental strengths and discipline you need to do really well in IB have to be of the highest of your own capabilities, however you still can do good if you keep up on topics and do homework with nothing extra. Friends and social life are important, but they also can hinder your motivation to do the work, if a friend said they didnt do the work, you may feel like you dont have to either, but this is where your wrong, you do. Make sure you look up study methods, study guides, watch channels like the Organic Chemist Richard Thornly, revision village, etc etc on youtube. Anyways if you have specific questions you can ask me. And if you want to know if this video helped, it helped for the first term, and i completely forgot to follow the guide as life got complicated, watching videos will not solve your issue, take a breath and think to yourself on how to solve it yourself along with the guidance of videos that you can add to your own solution. Im not saying its easy, its not, but try, look in to how to stay calm and easy to maintain your thinking processes, look up thing that you think will help you achieve your self improvement, but do not solely rely on watching/reading to solve it, you have to actually do it.
      Biggest tip to everyone: Be consistent with your goals and tasks, lose that consistence with making excuse for yourself, or procrastinating, or even doubting yourself.
      Anyways, the best of luck to anyone taking the IB, you have this and I can assure you, that you’ll do better than I did!( if you have any questions just ask me.)

      It just takes practice! I would take an IB prompt and give myself 45 minutes to respond with an as-coherent-as-possible essay and then constantly strive to make each essay longer, more organized, and analytical each time I practiced. You can also practice with creative writing or even journal entries. The more you write quickly, the easier it will be on test day :)
