Great review. Would have appreciated the RE scram side by side with the Triumph. This Triumph 400 and the Harley Davidson 440X should give the new Himalayan 452 great competition. Waiting for prices!
I’m very much in the market for a commuter bike in the 350-500cc range right now. Absolutely love the retro 60’s universal British motorcycle styling. Waiting impatiently for Triumph to announce the U.S. price for these new bikes. If they can bring it in under $5500, I’m in but they’d better hurry. If Royal Enfield beats them to the market with a Hunter 450 the choice will be much tougher.
With the amount of features the Triumph has makes it worth $7,000 easily in the US Market. Hell the KLX300 duel sport is almost 7K. Other than ABS the RE will most likely be the same old engine and bike in a slightly different configuration. They are good bikes but always basic.
Did you find the positioning of the coolant reservoir in the Scrambler 400X (just above the sump guard) bothersome ? Is that a design flaw or purposefully kept it there ?
The honda looks the ugliest bike I've ever seen. The muffler is massive & all out of proportion & as you pointed out it's very heavy at close to 200kg. The Triumph looks sensational & built for the job of adventure riding. The Honda you'd be lucky to manage gravel roads-although to it's credit it has conventional forks & fork gators.
@@harbinger_1984 Chain is on the other side means the transmission is different. And it is not 1cc lower. its like 0.5 or something. almost exact same bore and stroke. Hmm wonder why KTM was hesitant to reveal the bore and stroke at launch. Its a derivative obv not the exact same engine. But it would be foolish to think that Triumph developed this engine by themselves, Bajaj did most of the work and you know how lazy bajaj is
@@fieryspy6414 bajaj made the engine and also makes KTM engines and that doesn't necessarily means that they are lazy, if the chain is on the other side that means everything inside is also redesigned to accommodate those changes and bajaj obviously used some design cues they have learned from making KTM engines, that's why they bought them in the first place and now they will learn something from Triumph and things will go on like this.
@@harbinger_1984 bajaj produces the sub 400cc KTM engines not develop them. Well all I have to say is they must have learned QUIET a lot from ktm for the develop this engine just like they did with the NS, the dominar, the RS.
@@fieryspy6414 I never said they "developed" them but they do produce them and they have been doing this for quite some time now so, definitely they know what they are doing.
Triumph design team is far and away better than most other manufactures right now
That's true, but the good one have worked for RE in the UK for last three years. That's why RE are doing so well.
Thank you for the video, I've actually narrowed my next bike to these two choices so I appreciate the comparison!
Thinking of downsizing from my 1200gs and this looks interesting
Made in India with bajaj collaboration... Very good quality bike from Triumph 👍
Bring back kickstart. Darn it!
Don’t think half of the new crop of riders would know what to do with one let alone find top dead to get a good swing.
Under 6k and they will have a winner!
Looks just like my Enfield Scram lol

Price has been released it’s £5595. Yeah not able to borrow every model but will keep it in mind if we get used ones in.

The upcoming Himalayan 452 is going to be the best in segment and excellent value for money

Depends how it goes and how much vibration from that single.
I hate to say it but I think it's going to be more near 7000
You were wrong
@@kcartwright2772 I'm glad I was
Honda twin gonna be smoother , single cylinder thumper !
Triumph has counter balancer so you shouldn't really notice any difference.
Characterless honda twin. Hoping to chop my CB500X in when New 450 Himalayan launches.
Yeah the CL has a sweet motor I was amazed how different it felt compared to the 500X. But that’s for another review.

Honda build quality better
But bikes are so dull. Trust me I've got a 500 until RE get new 450s launched.
Derivative of the new KTM 390 engine lol
Everyone thinks that but it's not the same engine, the chain is literally on other side and is one cc lower... Its a different engine for sure.
