- Today I’m aiming to break the WORLD RECORD lap-time for an all-electric production car with a snowboard roof pod around Laguna Seca, haha! All jokes aside, I’m taking my brand new Audi RS e-tron GT (that I daily drive) for some lap-time testing. For science…? Yeah, for science. It’s amazing how capable this car is straight off the production line, so let’s put it to the test at one of the most prestigious race tracks in the world. More reasons to drive this car, more better. Enjoy episode 4 of 6 dedicated to my Audi RS e-tron GT daily driver project!

They used to run the formula cars back in the 80’s. My mom used to run catering for the drivers. They stopped running their because of bad wrecks and at least one death. I lived a couple miles from the track and could hear them running from my house. Super fun track.
Those were probably CART IndyCars you heard. F1 never raced here or even really tested here. That record lap was likely during one of Ferrari's Corse Clienti trackdays. They like to roll out an old F1 car or two and that usually means broken records.
IndyCar does still race at Laguna Seca, though.

Even as a driver, having the bass and vibration from an internal combustion engine elevates the heart rate and adds another excitement factor.
Driving this would be serene. It's all wind noise and tyre squealing. Constant torque, no engine vibrations. Really weird

That man is Neil Cole, he is definitely the rallycross spotter, as you can listen in Dirt 4, Dirt Rally 1 and 2 video games, made by Codemasters.

The lack of engine noises really takes the thrill away. I'm sure especially with Ken behind the wheel the car is flying, instead it seems like he is coasting the whole time.
I'm sure it's completely different while driving. Plus, maybe we'll get more tracks this way? No people with nothing better to do with their time complaining about a noisy track.

Ken is mediocre, just saying. He is one of the most knows drivers in the world, that's for sure, but he isn't great. He is mediocre. Secondly, the sound of an engine in certain situations can be fun, can be annoying and the lack of engine sounds can be calming, comforting, and terrifying. Trust me, a powerful electric car is just scarier in person in a situation like this. A normal car isn't! I'm sure your adrenalin level would be higher being in an electric car.

It honestly doesn't do it for me. The car looks bad ass don't get me wrong but god damn Motorsports is about to get boring as hell for spectators if they fully push everyone to this EV crap.

Come to Watkins Glen, NY and run the actual track and the old track..thru town and up and around the hills!! I promise you’ll come back every year for Vintage Weekend where they shut the streets down and run all types of cars on the old track!!

Having riden shotgun for many laps on this track (1:28-1:31) I was defiantly making the same faces as Niel, the video does no justice to how intense the track is at speed, especially in a production bucket seat.
I drove these lap times in a 70' Crossle FF my first time out of Go-Karts.... Nothing impressive about it.... Audi has to step their game up to maintain the HOONIGAN loyalty

70' to 2020 you'd think we had made it somewhere.. and personally I hate this electric BS! Lithium mines are equal if not more detrimental to the environment and you still have to charge it somewhere..

@@DiamondDaveCH44 ...We'll have to wait and see what Audi has in mind for him. It will probably (and hopefully) be a world class rally EV. That is where things are going and they want to lead with him as their driver. He is 54 now and might be on his last "lap". The saddest thing in my book is that Ford now has the Hoonicorn and unless there are secret plans, it is going to sit and rust! Let's hope for the best.

Ya missed one on the records list! The Czinger 21C holds a time of 1:25:44, I was an intern there at the time and everyone was very excited to beat the McLaren :)

The fact that there was not brake fade in a car that heavy speaks volume for the braking system Audi is using on it.
Well it's probably the same (massive) 10 piston ceramic composite brake that Porsche uses in the Panamera, so i would expect nothing else.
One of my dreams is to drive this track.
Sure a different track than when I raced there. Back in the day there were no corners after you crested the hill after the pits. In my Pro SV (180hp, 1200 #) it was flat until after going under the bridge. I ran 1:12s and was by no means the fastest car.

Did you happen to know my cousin Jim Elder? He was an automotive journalist who rode the Baha 1000 as co-pilot in the truck class (factory Ford) back in the day.. He and his wife were the chase vehicle for the Alcan Rally for three years in a row and raced it as well.
