It is a good movie, but I'm not sure the deviations were necessary. I kind of liked that in the story he was just a regular joe who stumbled on it by accident and that they were ancient *humans* not lizard people. It added to the visual for me that they were emaciated cannibals that had been alive for so long. The cabal behind it all may have been implied, but I didn't get that sense from reading it. Still, though, it's an underrated film and certainly could have done much worse with the source material.
3 classics for the next list: #3 Deadly Friend (1986). It starts off as a classic 1980s "teen movie," then suddenly morphs into a violet sci-fi film at the midpoint. #2 The Missing (2003). This seems to be an ordinary Western about a mother searching for a kidnapped daughter. Then the shaman traveling with the kidnappers turns out to have actual supernatural powers. #1 Halloween (1978-1979). One of the reasons this became a classic is the supernatural element, which no previous slasher flick really had. John Carpenter doesn't reveal that until the final scene, when Michael Meyers walks away after taking 6 slugs. The best monster reveal dialogue line in history belongs to this film: "Was it the Bogeyman?" "As a matter of fact, it was."
@yolman25-Agreed, both the 2006 & 2019 remakes of Black Christmas are awful. The original 1974 version on the otherhand is a classic, & still one of the most deeply unsettling horror movies I've ever seen.
@@kirstyfairly4371The 2006 remake is still better. The only thing I didn’t like were the different death scenes, depending on the county. And parts you see in the trailer, that never made it into the finale movie.

The twists are usually supposed come near or at the ending of a movie, usually around the last 20 mins, or something that ties all the random plots holes together to make the movie make sense. Think of the endings of Sixth Sense, Usual Suspects, Shutter Island, or the first Scream movie, some of those movies had trailers that hinted at supernatural but the twist was either delusion or made up. Those all had the twist come near the end of the movie and the trailers never showed anything that might have showed what would happen. But Dusk til Dawn had the vampires show up around the 30 min mark and the trailer literally promoted it as one of the main selling points of the movie. It cannot be a spoiler nor twist if that was what the trailer was promoting in the first place. Also this was a Robert Rodriguez film, it just had Tarantino star in it, like in Desperado or Planet Terror
