    when you say the airport doesn't even fly to london you must consider the fact that most people who dont live in london have no desire or need to ever go there.
    you go once or twice in your life and know its not worth going back to.

      It's not just a matter of "just" going to London. London has more international flights than any other city in the UK, so it kind of makes sense to go there to travel abroad. Although that group may be small as well, but I'm just trying to explain Beno's possible reason for mentioning it.

    from the isle of sheppy you can get a train to and from london victoria. the last time i travelled on it, it used 6 car networkers (465+466). it does skip swale but there is a train to and from london

      I was referring to back in the days when there was only the old bridge. But even today there are only a couple of trains direct to London. It would be better if the hourly 395 that terminates at Faversham went to Sheerness instead.

    In Essex, we've got Mersea Island, Canvey Island, and Foulness. Foulness is only open to the public at limited times, and large parts of it are used as military firing ranges. No supermarkets or pub. Nb on Sark, just one type of motor vehicle is allowed- tractors.

    The isle of Man, I believe famous Bass player Mark King from Level 42 lives there. Could also be isle of Wright, can’t remember exactly but it’s one of the two from what I’ve had heard once on the radio. Shetland has definitely got room for a pony, those Shetland pony’s are really tiny horses. In The Netherlands the town Urk in the noord-oost polder used to be and island until it was connected by the mainland in the 1950’s when it was joined by the creation of the polder. The people there are a bit inbred as well, they are very religious but many of them are also massive drug addicts which are two things that seem to contradict each other.

  • @griffster17
    @griffster17 Před 3 lety +6

    Yeah these islands certainly sound quite interesting. How many have you been to? Maybe you should invest in a plane of your own. Then you can fly to some of these islands. In fact if you really and seriously consider that, try the x-air. it is a two person aircraft, meaning you and someone else could fly somewhere. It’s also nice and cheap. A brand-new one would set you back AU$25,000. But you can pick one up secondhand for as low as AU$8000. I’m not sure how much that is in pounds. And they are about AU$25-AU$30 an hour fuel and maintenance. They all run on normal unleaded petrol, and are they are usually an oil injected 2 stroke engine. As it is in the category of UltraLite, a pilots license is not very expensive. Or you could probably get away with flying without one as long as you stayed out of controlled airspace. They are really that easy to fly. You don’t even need a license to fly them if you’re in the United States. I Hope this helps.

    Great video! I live near Portland (and a lot of my family are from it), Portland is a peninsular hence the ‘funny (Chesil) beach’ you mentioned which has always connected it to the mainland. This means it sadly isn’t an island (and never was or at least not within a few million years), It is a very weird place though.

  • @pineappleroad
    @pineappleroad Před 3 lety +1

    ive been to Orkney (once)
    and ive been to Lindisfarne quite a few times (in fact I live close enough to that "island" that it is possible to go there for a day trip, although its borderline day trip distance)
    and I was born on the isle of wight, and lived there until I was 8 (and up until I was 12 I would sometimes visit the island)
    out of all 3 of the islands ive been to, I would say the isle of wight is my favourite (as its the only island that ive been to where I won't get bored after a few hours)
    EDIT: and its a shame one of my favourite places on the isle of wight has closed down permanently (Seaview wildlife encounter, used to be called flamingo park, and some of the road signs up until it closed down STILL called it flamingo park)
    EDIT 2: Seaview Wildlife Encounter closed down in November 2015 from what I have been able to find out online
    EDIT 3: I remember that quite a few times when I was with my sister we would go into the cafe in the hospital on the island, and I remember the hospital had an interesting layout, and the floor "numbering" was A B C, and there were 2 lifts
    also, I hope to go back to the isle of wight at some point in the future, as there are a few places where I hope to get some photos
    and I remember the ferries had 3 car decks, the middle deck wasn't used very often, and none of the lifts on the ferry served the middle car deck, so if you requested to be near the lift (and because of my mum, my parents always had to request this, as my mum couldn't manage the stairs) you would be put on the top or bottom car deck (C deck or E deck)
    the passenger wheelchair lift went between B deck and C deck, and the main lift went between B deck, C deck, and E deck
    as far as I know, the middle car deck was D deck, and on all 4 of the colour coded staircases there was a door to access this deck, but I don't know for sure
    EDIT 4: Just in case anyone doesn't realise which ferry service I am talking about, it is Red Funnel
    oh, and Seaview Wildlife Encounter was a bit like a zoo which didn't have any of the usual zoo animals
    Perhaps I should shut up now, my comment is getting quite long
    if for some reason anyone is interested in hearing more about the isle of wight from me, then let me know somehow

    My favourite uninhabited island I've been to is Hilbre Island just off of the West coast of the Wirral. It has a lighthouse on it and a few buildings. It's beautiful but I'd say it's weird because it looks like it could be a Mediterranean island. The shore next to it is surpsingly pretty too, with a pine wood with a sand floor!
