Rock Star Audition Scene - We All Die Young

- This is the audition scene from the movie "Rock Star". To clarify, Mark Wahlberg IS singing during the tentative parts of the audition. The rest of the audition (ie. the good part), the vocals are supplied by Miljenko Matijevic of the band "Steelheart".

This movie is a hidden gem!
Hell ya it is
On of my all time favorite movies he has ever done!
This is the most fake movie ever made lol.
@@speedracerjeff it’s based on a true story. So, not really fake.
@@speedracerjeffwell, most movies are made of make believe subject matter, so there's that.
Jen was at the height of her cuteness and beauty for this movie.
omg....100% delicious
Hell no, she is way post-wall here.
She was at her peak in quantum leap.
Office space Jen that's the one.
She looked like a Muppet.
I was thinking the same thing. Here it is all these years later and she still hasn’t aged hardly at all. Beautiful example of womanhood.
The singer is Milijenko Matijevic from Steelheart. He wrote this song as well. One of the best rock singers ever.
Then why nobody ever heard of him?
Steelheart played at Ohio bike week two years ago it was a fantastic show

Rock Star is a seriously underrated film - the Steel Dragon concerts are on point for the era
Definitely nearing the end of an era. Tough to see this movie getting made just a few years later. I don't know exactly when the culture moved on from arena rock but it was not long after this.
nah. It wasn't very good. Nowhere near biopic worthy.
As a former musician, this one cringe worthy movie. Not once do people think one way of you, then just flip their impression of you because you say you're in a band.
Rock Star is a great movie
I love this movie very much 🤘😛🤘🔥🔥
Best part of the Movie.
The whole movie was good lol
If this scene doesn't give you goosebumps, you might not have a soul
I've always loved the change at , "it makes my stomach turn!" A song with a wide range of singing styles for sure. Great scene.
LOL
First time I saw the movie u got chills I love this movie

If you're Marky Mark, ya probably need a LOT more help than that
A night with the assistant with male equipment?
Your mom!
Can you imagine what it would be like for a rock band to say well mate you got the gig, this was one of Mark Walburgs best movies, and very underrated, this movie is one you can watch over and over and never get tired of it.
Everything that has ever happened is underrated
Agreed!
That would never happen to me, because I would never join a band that was already formed, famous or not, I gots to be in on the ground floor.
@@MrParkerman6 Which is why you will be commenting on youtube videos for the rest of your life.
@@MrParkerman6 Dude, AC/DC, Van Halen, hell even Queen replaced their singers. You'd have to be a complete moron not to join a well established arena touring band that has albums out.

Waiting for him to say "what the fuck did I do?"

Greatest scene in the film, along with the first concert. Anyone who's struggled to build their dream can relate to this. I'm a film composer and this is like the moment after I spent 15 to 20 years struggling on small projects, working crappy side jobs to stay alive, then after doing an interview on that series or film you REALLY want.....you get that call, and they say...'You've got the gig". Nothing compares to that feeling. Changes your life.
So, “What’s the film you are scoring- and who’s the director?”
Yes, what did you score?
Glad things worked out for you mate
I fully agree. I started out mopping the floor just like you guys. But now… now I'm washing lettuce. Soon I'll be on fries; then the grill. In a year or two, I'll make assistant manager, and that's when the big bucks start rolling in.

The Great Louie Anderson ... RIP
I have lost count how many times I have watched this movie. No doubt I will watch it again.
Having Jeff Pilson, Zak Wylde and Jason Bonham makes this movie so cool for us true "METAL HEADS" rock on!
I never get tired of that scene. 🤘🏻 🤘🏻
One of Mark's greatest movie characters. After fame, drugs, booze, & millions.💵his character finally realized what was really important in life. Family, his roots & real love. I really liked his character. Also, "The Perfect Storm" was a tearjerker. His last words were so true. "There's no Goodbye, only love" 🙏🏻💞
The voice actually belongs to Miljenko Matijevic
Mark Wahlberg relly awesome in this movie
yes i do love this song why i don`t ??
He was good, but that wasn't him singing. It was Miljenko Matijevic, the lead singer from Steelheart.
Mishari Mohammed j
UofMichFan It was in him singing in certain instances. I believe this audition was walburg but the concert wasn't. That's why if listen closely to the movie, you'll notice it sometimes sounds different.
Mishari Mohammed he killed it!!
The scene and the vocals still give me chills.
Mike from steelheart 😊✌️
@@mumu5013 This is not marky mark singing. It’s actually this guy….
Miljenko Matijevic
It's convincing though
LoL that you actually think he's singing
I remember this scene specifically out of no where. I was just at work and this scene popped up. But I remember watching this movie yearsssss ago when I was younger lol. Such a great movie
The dream that we guys all dream of... A chance at greatness, and a girl that's got our back, through thick and thin.
You have to actually be great for that dream to materialize. Even then, it's a huge uphill climb.
This whole scene was one of the best of the movie. The part right before this where the lead singer who is being kicked out of the band gives "Izzy" a reality check about what it really takes to be him is great.
1:13 one person to believe makes all the difference
I’m not a metal guy, but I love this movie! Outside of Boogie Nights, this is one of Mark’s best performances. Love this scene!!
I like all types of music and I agree with you
This isn't metal. :) But it's a badass movie and song and I love Jennifer.
great actor, but not his voice....and not his dick either.
..oh well
Not metal, hard rock ballad maybe? But I feel ya. I felt the same way watching Straight outta Compton...never was much into that scene but the soundtrack was killer and performances by the actors were very good.
Movie is so underrated
I love this scene. Everything about it is just right. Mark being super nervous, but then his talent just takes over. The pecking order in the band. How it comes down to just the manager* and the guitarist to decide. How they only want him to do this one part of one song, because if he can do this part, he can do their whole catalog.
Manager, not roadie.
This scene is so well crafted.
The writing and performances are spot on, especially if you’re a musician and know how this situations unfold.
The music is divine, the director chose the perfect song for the audition, and Matijevic recorded an amazing take: not as perfect as the original version, because the voice has to showcase Izzy being shy and nervous, but gains more power as he progresses through the chorus thus reflecting his newfound confidence.
Last but not least the sound mix was a superb choice: we can hear from inside the booth, so it’s Izzy’s pov, isolated from the rest. After they stop the song and talk, we hear his breath above every other sound. This way the audience is truly immersed in Whalberg’s position, and he delivers both the anxiety and excitement through his facial expressions and with his breath.
Brilliant.
2:00 nails it right on the opening up part
*_"Mark being super nervous, but then his talent just takes over."_*
It's not him singing, he's lip synching. The real singer is Miljenko Matijevic from Steelheart.
@@thebluestig2654yeah, its called acting. Everyone knows its not him singing. Geez.
Rock Star and Almost Famous - two stellar movies portraying fictitious rock bands.
Miljenko Matijevic crushed this performance HARD. Amazing vocalist and incredible song...just a perfect cinema moment right here.
To be fair, he crushes every performance hard
His vocals on "I'll Never Let You Go" is unparalleled.

I ve been looking for this for years
This movie about the 80s hair bands TAKES me back to to the 80s when the hair bands started being played on heavy rotation on 97.5 WABB here in Mobile Alabama.
I was 17 years old in 1986 & playing in probably 4-5 hair band garage bands.
When this movie came out in 2000 I couldn't wait to go see it at the movies.
This is the best scene of the movie to me...all I could do is smile when he was offered the gig.
I'm a cross-country truck driver now for over 20 years...and I still listen to my 80s hair bands...if I live to be 80...i'll still be an 80s headbanger.

Back in the 80's for me i had the sunday night sermon on some station coming from a university.Started off with Ozzys Ironman and from there many on that list and more. Its not the norm for a black teen to be into metal but its my first choice in music. My first album i ever paid for was the ultimate Sin(ozzy).Todays metal is kinda blah mostly but nothing compares to those 80's bands in their prime.I love me some jazz,r&b,hiphop, dancehall, country, bigband, etc etc.....But long live rock&roll.
I'm assuming you meant Roth era Van Halen
Only Roth era Van Halen....if not you must be a narc.
Miljenko Matijevic, of Steelheart fame, belting this one out. He had, unquestionably, the best pipes of the 80's rockers. Just a shame he was a bit late to the party as they didn't get going until 89/90.
For any youngins watching this: the mid-to-late 80's were one of the best eras in American history. We had moved past a lot of the racial and cultural divides, no one took themselves too seriously, competition was fierce but also inspiring others to greatness, people went for their dreams, and the music was at the zenith of it all. Entertainment wasn't just a platform for political theater as it has become today. Free speech, freedom to treat your body as your own, and freedom to gather were all held sacred. You can see it in all the movies, and hear it in all the music.
Amen!
Well we still have free speech , freedom to treat your body as your own, and freedom to gather so I'm a little lost on that one. And yes I was around as 30something for the late 80's
@@mizzury54 As a 50something at the time, I know what you don't.The Llama is right. We were taught harmony and possibilities in school. By your time education had become indoctrination, teaching division, fear and victimhood, controlled by haters who couldn't stand that we were pulling together when their political philosophy depends on divide and conquer sociology.

Because of Mark Wahlberg's previous career in music. It helped sold the illusion that it was him singing this. A lot of people including me were confused and thought that he somehow managed to improve his vocals in a such a short time.
That's not entirely true. This version in this scene was him it didn't sound like that on the album version.
@@Oi325 this is not him singing lol
Its my cousins band steelheart who did the vocals my cousin john belmont was their tour manager the real vocalist is mike from steelheart
Chris is correct. I had a friend who knew every metal band in history. He was 22ish, this was 2008. He passed away. He told me it was Steelheart & subsequently got me the album version. Excellent track. Miss that big guy too.
Wahlberg was sucking off the rest of the band while someone with actual skill filled in. Was Jennifer AnusTon's nose carved w/a potato peeler or is it just deflated from all that KOH-KANG??!!

Fantastic movie!
I had the honor of seeing Kenny Kanowski (Steelheart Co-Writer, Guitarist, and eventual Lead Vocalist) perform this song with Chilin Sun in his home town of Buffalo NY. RIP Kenny.
Such a great song!
The people who think this is Mark Wahlberg's voice...I can't even. The vocals for ALL his Steel Dragon songs were sung by Steelheart frontman Miljenko Matijevic. "We All Die Young" is in fact a Steelheart song. This is just a harder, more up-tempo version of the '96 original. The only actor in the entire movie whose actual singing voice is featured is Myles Kennedy, the singer who Wahlberg pulls on stage toward the end of the movie to replace him. But Myles of course was already a real-life rock star.
I believe Jeff Scott Soto had a hand in some of the vocals as well.

I never understood why this movie was not a bigger hit.
It accurately told the story of how heavy metal moved on to grunge
Because it never did. Grunge came from a variety of influences, including heavy metal. It also continued during the same time as grunge. All the metalheads didn't just suddenly become grunge rockers.
@@derek96720
I realize that metalheads did not change their music genres.
Had nothing to do with metal being replaced by grunge --- simply about a guy who had a dream, but it turned out to be different than he imagined once he achieved it
@@tommitchell7294
Disagree. it was about Heavy metal becoming corporate rock. In the movie the band Steel Dragon did not care about the new singers new ideas. They had a formula for making money and they did not want to stray, hence the term corporate rock. He got tired of it and moved on. Why do you think he moved to Seattle?...Enter Grunge.
@@niltomega2978 corporate rock and grunge are just allegories in this movie --- it's a story about one man pursuing his dream, and then realizing it wasn't what he thought, and realizing he had the dream all along (ie, the love of his woman)
