As a Burmese, I have respect for Cambodia as a whole, because of Khmer Empire, yet sad to see their current state and how China is using them for its imperialism. I understand why Cambodians don't like Vietnam and Thailand, but let's be fair, they need to stop believing that China will do anything in favour of Cambodians. China itself backed Pol Pot, have they learned from it?
Us Cambodians overseas (U.S.A, France etc.) don't like China but there's nothing to do as of now because the government is too powerful. Personally I don't really care abt the Thailand conflict and don't dislike Vietnam, Chinese imperialism is the issue in the present. I hope the new generation starts to wake up and realize what is happening 😓. let's fight for democracy 🇲🇲🇰🇭

Yes and the Khmer Rouge is one of them. But after 1954 the Indochinese federation was dissolved and Vietnam supported the Cambodian king, Sihanouk, to five powers in Cambodia, not the Khmer Rouge. Yes and in return , the king of Cambodia secretly and supported the war of the North Vietnamese army . This is absolutely true in history, if we don't have the help of the king of Cambodia, why can't we use your borders and ports. The US military then bombed Cambodian territory and created a great deal of poor support for the communist Khmer Rouge movement in northern Cambodia. In addition, because China wanted to strengthen its friendship with Polpot to oppose the alliance of Vietnam and the Soviet Union, aided and provided Cambodia with billions of dollars in weapons to defeat and occupy Cambodia. That is also the reason why the Khmer Rouge used Chinese tanks, Chinese AK47 guns, cannons made in China and Chinese missiles to attack the Vietnamese border in 1975 killing 3,000 women and children. You should think more logically than you have learned. Without money and weapons from China and Thailand, Vietnam would have completely defeated the Khmer Rouge army and imprisoned Polpot in 1978, and the war would not have lasted on the Thai border 10 years later. .
The is how the timeline works the Khmer king helped Vietnam by letting them use Khmer border so Lon Nol does not happy with it he decided to overthrow the King, so the king finding the back up and sided with Pol Pot who form his ally with the Vietcong troop but sadly Pol Pot has a different plan with the help of China and US he tryna fight with Vietnam led to Vietnam took down Khmer Rouge and rule Cambodia for 10 years and set up a former member of communism Hun Sen yes Hun Sen whom Communist Vietnamese installed. He corrupt his vote and Cambodian can't get rid of him till these day. This is why Cambodian Do not like US, China, Vietnamese and their own government all in one.

Indianization of Cambodia did not start at 500 BC but rather when the Funan under Fan Chan first came into contact with India around 230-243 AD
That date is only used from attested written sources such as stone inscriptions from oc eo and neighboring champa and also from chinese diplomats. Indianization most certainly began much earlier than that. Khmer script didn't appear until 611 ad, but scholars conclude it developed earlier than the attested date by studying the language itself.

Chao Fa Ngum was not a warlord. He was a prince who later founded Kingdom of Lan Xang by uniting many different Tai ethnic groups in what is now Laos and part of Northern and Eastern Thailand.

in the 11th century he invaded Pegu and the Burmese sent 3 generals and his troops to battle the Khmers. The result was a status quo because they both were powerful that time.
The Khmer empire during the 11th century under emperor Suryavarman I attacked Pegu the Mon capital but fhe Burmese helped the Mon to defend against the Khmer troops. Later during Emperor Jayavarman the 7th in the 13th century Pegu Kingdom became part of the Khmer empire.

Funan was a united kingdom from different tribes alongside the coastline of mainland southeast asia. The majority population of Funan possibly were from two groups of people they were Austronesian people and Austroasiatic people. Because today modern Cambodian who live the southern Cambodia where the Funan located shared very similar to Austronesian people DNA. Those might been the people of Champa.

FUNAN: The First Kingdom in Cambodian History
#Funan (Khmer: Nokor Phnom, នគរភ្នំ, lit. "Mountain Kingdom") was the name given by Chinese cartographers, geographers and writers to an ancient Indianised state-or, rather a loose network of states (Mandala)-located in mainland Southeast Asia centered on the Mekong Delta that existed from the first to sixth century CE. The name is found in Chinese historical texts describing the kingdom, and the most extensive descriptions are largely based on the report of two Chinese diplomats, Kang Tai and Zhu Ying, representing the Wu Kingdom who sojourned in Funan in the mid-3rd century AD.
Funan is known in the modern languages of the region as វ្នំ Vnom (Old Khmer) or នគរភ្នំ Nokor Phnom (Khmer, however, the name Funan is not found in any texts of local origin from the period, and it is not known what name the people of Funan gave to their polity. Some scholars argued that ancient Chinese scholars transcribed the word Funan from a word related to the Khmer word bnaṃ or vnaṃ (modern: phnoṃ, meaning "mountain"), others however thought that Funan may not be a transcription at all- rather it meant what it says in Chinese.
Like the very name of the kingdom, the ethno-linguistic nature of the people is the subject of much discussion among specialists. The leading hypotheses are that the Funanese were mostly Mon-Khmer, or that they were mostly Austronesian, or that they constituted a multi-ethnic society.
The available evidence is inconclusive on this issue. Michael Vickery has said that, even though identification of the language of Funan is not possible, the evidence strongly suggests that the population was Khmer. The results of archaeology at Oc Eo have demonstrated "no true discontinuity between Oc Eo and pre-Angkorian levels", indicating Khmer linguistic dominance in the area under Funan control.
Based on the testimony of the Chinese historians, the polity Funan is believed to have been established in the 1st century CE in the Mekong Delta, but archaeological research has shown that extensive human settlement in the region may have gone back as far as the 4th century BCE. Though regarded by Chinese authors as a single unified polity, some modern scholars suspect that Funan may have been a collection of city-states that sometimes were at war with one another and at other times constituted a political unity. From archaeological evidence, which includes Roman, Chinese, and Indian goods excavated at the ancient mercantile centre of Óc Eo (from the Khmer អូរកែវ Ou Kaeo, meaning "glass canal") in southern Vietnam, it is known that Funan must have been a powerful trading state. Excavations at Angkor Borei in southern Cambodia have likewise delivered evidence of an important settlement. Since Óc Eo was linked to a port on the coast and to Angkor Borei by a system of canals, it is possible that all of these locations together constituted the heartland of Funan.
In the mid 6th century, Funan was in decline then was attacked & subdued by its former vassal, the norther Khmer polity of Chenla lead by King Bhavavarman I (thought to be the grandson of the king of Funan) and his close relative Chitrasena (royal title: Mahendravarman).
Rudravarman was the last king of Funan, as mentioned by the Chinese annals. By early 7th century or during the reign of Isanavarman I of Chenla, Funan was completely disappeared from the Chinese records.

Funan is a made up term to describe the many tribes and peoplea living there as a multi-ethnid society that even has austronesian peoples. There is also no evidence that funan speak khmer and there is no khmer script in funan. No one really knows their true identity and it is still in debate by many scholars.

If you are cham, your language is blended in Aceh language of Sumatra. You can track your language there. For cham & khmer, your kingdoms had relationship with Javanese Kingdom in the past. There are transcriptions mentioned Javanese Kingdom in your land. Even, our Aksara is based on Phallian Aksara.

I think the Vietnamese invasion extended beyond the year 1989. And if you want to include indirect forms, it could be argued that Vietnamization has probably continued up until the present time.
I think it might have extended a year or two longer than 1989, but in that time period it was just less extreme.
