    For the mid-1980s, there wasn't a shoe like it back then. Eyeballs were looking at MJ's Nike's more than the All Star game when he checked in. I mean, prior to MJ's Air Jordan's, the best shoes at that time to wear were Dr. J's Converse All Stars. And MJ's shoes immediately put Dr. J's shoes to rest. That was the impact of those shoes IMHO. I bought a pair once I could afford a pair of Air Jordan's. People were looking at my shoes constantly. Even non-sports fans. There were no shoes like it at that time.

    I watched Nike’s documentary on how they make the Jordan shoe and ALL of his previous shoes. My dream shoe is The Air Mag. I shed a tear every time I see a pair because Back To The Future is an invaluable part of my childhood and without it I feel I probably wouldn’t have had one because I was such a shy kid. It taught me how not to be afraid to stand out, that it’s ok to be different and to be true to yourself to, how to handle a bully(because I was being bullied at the time of the movie) and then he pulls out the shoes. All I could say was Holy Sh🤬t!!!!! And receiving a backhand slap in the mouth by my mom lmbo 🤣🤣🤣🤣. I’m a 70’s child stuck in the 80’s what can I say lol. Nike has always been committed to the Jordan brand and to the people and I’ve ALWAYS respected and admired that. What a great documentary. Loyalty pays off. Great video!!!! Best of luck to you, Jordan, Nike and everyone here 💋

    One thing I wanted to add is since the number of available photos have been controlled in terms of what is available to the public.Contacting Getty Images could prove to be of great use to fill in any holes in terms of what was worn and for what game during those first few months.Great timeline without a doubt.

    This is an incredible video with the most inside insight on the shoe (I do love how your sample is dated 11/14/84, my 11th birthday). As one who has spent most of my youth (and my money) studying all things Jordan, my eye for detail on things like this seems to be the same as yours. My guess on the Air Ship he wore during the 84 preseason is that the medial side of the midsole has some visible EVA surrounded by the complete rubber midsole, just like we would see again in 87 on the first Delta Force. The midsoles are very similar. Not identical, but very similar. Great research. Enjoyed it.

    How come he didn't wear the Jordan 1s from the photo shoots?

    • @channelkris
      @channelkris  Před 7 lety +2

      Well, they were still trying things out, concepts, and he wore them for other shoots (one with Patrick Ewing), but the NBA banned a pair of black and red Air Ships in the pre-season, so Nike had to reassess what they were doing…I think they put the "banned" aka Bred's on the back burner, until beginning of 85 when they came up with the "Banned" commercial idea…and they added the wings logo, so the earlier samples became obsolete in Nike's eyes…and remember, there weren't a lot of people who were insane over shoes back then like there are now….heck, people looked at me like I was crazy when I kept them in the mid 90's.

You can see how up until the late 80's most NBA players were just athletic, but from 88/89 on many had significant physique changes. You can see how neck muscles and jaw muscles become more developed in steroid users. It is possible he didn't take, but it is likely he did take (small amounts).
