One Ok Rock is the first rock band that got me so obsessed and started to dig deeper into rock music. Their songs are so catchy, and Taka's voice is so unique and addicting and his screams are pleasing to my ears.
Their song "Clock Strikes" was my first, then I listened to "Deeper Deeper", "Re:make", "Cry out", "Liar", and end up watched all of their MVs lol.
You can start listening to the songs I mentioned. You'll love their rock music since their songs are catchy, non rock fans will love them.

How to call the band name is... ONE OK ROCK = ワンオクロック = One-O-Clock (One O'clock)
At the time of formation, they started practicing in the studio at "1 a.m" on the weekend. because the late night charge was cheap. This is the origin of the name.
O'clock" was replaced by "OK" and "ROCK". It's a kind of word play.
In Japanese, we don't have "R" sound. That's why we can call them one-o-clock (ワンオクロック) easily even if it's One OK Rock.
However, you don't have to care about it. They officially accept called "One Okay Rock" in other countries, since other langages have different sound of R and L. BTW, I met your channel by chance the day before yesterday and I have been enjoying to watch since then. I'll look forward to seeing the next one from Japan. 😄

I grew up on classic rock, like The Eagles and Journey. I don't think they really make rock like that anymore. OOR is definitely the "heaviest" rock that I listen to, and they're not even that heavy. I'm not really into rock that's just loud. Like, I don't enjoy screaming and such, but whenever Taka screams in their songs, it's just different. Like it's just so clean and sounds pleasing to the ears.
To answer your question, picture taking and recording are generally not allowed at concerts or events in Japan. Also, while the band's name is pronounced like "one o'clock" in Japanese, it is totally okay (pun not intended) to call them "one okay rock," and that's how Taka says their name when overseas too.
When Waleska gets back, you should watch together the performance of "Mighty Long Fall" at 35xxxv Japan Tour. I don't want to spoil it, but the way Taka ends the song there is generally how he'll do it for most performances of this song.
I would be interested in seeing your reaction to songs like "Ending Story??" at the Jinsei x Kimi = Tour (NOT the fan-made live mix video), "NO SCARED" at Yokohama Stadium, and "The Beginning" at Eye of the Storm Japan Tour.
Btw, the band announced earlier in the week that they're getting a documentary on Netflix next month on the 21st!! You should check out the trailer. They have one on their official channel, and an extended trailer is available on Netflix itself (just search "ONE OK ROCK" on Netflix). So excited for it!!

I loved your take on this. I had just found the song today and I always like to see reactions of course. Your input from the actual state of music and performance is spot on. And when you had asked "what do you not see?" I then in that moment noticed too and what a great and beautiful thing. Being in the moment of music is in and of itself a unique experience. I had thought these kinds of performances were only to be found in the past but full glad am I to see it alive and well. Keep up the great takes!!

Please react to One Ok Rock's "Be The Light" (check the music video version first and then live. It's a tribute song for the victims of 2011 Tohuku Earthquake) and "Good Goodbye" live acoustic version from their concert 35xxxv Tour ^_^ those songs are soooo beautiful and meaningful :)
As for the band name's pronunciation, you can say "won oku rock-u". Or just say One OK Rock. Both are okay :) And you're right, it came from "1 o'clock", just pronounced in a Japanese accent, to say it simply ^_^ the story behind d name is that they used to rehearse every 1'o clock night when they were just starting :)
Regarding the phone thing, yes, they don't use phone during concerts. They simply bask in the experience and enjoy the whole thing. They only bring out the phones if it's "required" in the performance, just like in One OK Rock's song "Be The Light" :)
And since Japanese songs usually have parts where the audience can sing, that's where they would normally sing along. Think "We Are", since you've already seen the stadium version. (Oh, and please check the "We Are FES Version". That perf was powerful!)
Plus, they also have this mindset that since they're already getting a BluRay copy of the concert anyway, so why bother recording w/ your phone? Kinda like that. They also don't scream while the band or singer is performing. Only before or after the performance do they scream or cheer. It's their way of showing respect for the performer giving out their art to the people. Also to respect the other people in the audience, who paid money to listen to artists, not the screams of the audience while they are performing. That's how cool and respectful Japanese concerts are.

      @ed5407 Před 2 lety +6

Yeah. I believe that it is illegal to record concerts so if u get caught with recording on your phone you get kicked out the concert without refund I seen this happen when I went to concerts in Korea and Japan as well. Beside all artist in Japan would release DVD/Blu Ray of the concerts at the major venues. DVD/Blu Ray usually get released once the tour is over it also a big profit as well since Concert DVD/Blu Ray can go from like 50USD to 200 USD depending on the version you can of the concert since they have First Press Limited Editon models then regular then you have regular limited Edition then you also exclusive editions from other major music retailers

I think Efra is now ready for Deeper Deeper, One by One, and other heavy but not that heavy OOR songs. 😂
I'm not a rock fan too, the first song that made me a fan was Heartache but when I was exposed to their heavy stuffs suprisingly I liked them more (even those songs with screams, which what I hate before). I dont know maybe there is something in OOR. I agree that a good rock is something that not loses the musicality aspects. And OOR songs have also positive messages, these songs always have a deep backstory.

You were on point about what rock should sounds like in general. I can never understand heavy metal/rock stuff because all they does is just wild screaming with no direction at some point of the song.
OOR killed it with this type of "melodic rock" where everything just sounds beautiful while also get "Heavy" when it needs to. The control is just fantastic and bizarre. Now i cant wait for you to react to their next song.

Maybe it’s the security that the set will be
Professionally recorded so they just live in the moment not worrying about recording.

Well, I believe it's a rule in Japan not to record concerts. Before starting the event, everyone in the audience must turn off their phones, cameras, etc. My friend was was able to go to a Hey!Say!Jump! concert and they were actually given a small plastic bag to put in their devices after turning it off once they entered the ocncert hall. Also, after the concert, the staff would actually check your device to see if you recorded some or even took pictures. If they found out those files, they will have you delete it right then and there.
This doesn't only happen in Japan. When Japanese artists perform abroad, this rule will also be implemented. This might depend on each artists, but most artists (singers, bands, and seiyuu) that have performed here in PH have that rule strictly implemented. I actually like this rule, since it lets the audience to be immersed fully in the performance and prevent piracy as well. Too bad it wasn't followed during the OOR's concert here.

Yes, it's pronounced as One Ok Rock because in Japanese there is no L sound, as they practiced at 1 o'clock when they adapted the name the L sound in Clock was replaced by R, so in Japanese One O'clock sounds like One OcRock hence ONE OK ROCK!

I love when your parents chip in from behind the camera! :) There are a lot of good rock bands out there...you just have to sort through the crap ones!

Not sure if it's been mentioned but both of Taka's parents are singers too. His youngest brother is also a vocalist of another rock group.

I've been to more than a couple of concerts in Japan (altho the OOR one i've been to was outside Japan) and they don't allow cameras. Throughout the con, there'll be marshall-like staff going around with the No photos or No Cams sign to ensure it's obeyed.

Yeah!! I've been waiting for you to do this song. My favorite and it's the song that got me into OOR 😊😊 And if you watch more of their live performance in japan you'll see there's no phone recording (this happen the same with Blackpink live in Tokyo dome). The japanese fan have great culture when it comes to concert they come to enjoy every moment with their favorite artist instead of try to record and show it on social media.I really respect them.

It is actually prohibited to record or cam record at any concerts. The phones are not confiscated though, its just that the Japanese people follow this strict rules. Also this way they can focus solely listening to the songs. They ca rent or buy out DVDs of the concerts after few months because its made available for everyone.

Love One Ok Rock. Best new band around. Since you are most interested in drums and exploring rock and roll, I would strongly suggest the drum-cam video of Daney Carey live, onstage with Tool, doing Pneuma. That is the best drum cam ever, and an absolute drum clinic.
