  • Just trying out my new Walsh shuttle pipes in A. Hope you can ignore the expression errors in the tune...new pipes and I haven't played the second tune in a while!
    Tunes: "The Cape Breton Fiddler's Welcome to the Shetlands" & "Jimmy Blue"
    These tunes can both be found at thesession.org/.

    This is still one of my favorite piping videos in the world. The groove is amazing

    One of the best grooves created by John Walsh smallpipes I have ever heard!

    Great job. Very steady pressure, which I have trouble pulling off on my shuttles, and what an upbeat tempo. Thanks!

    You have done me a HUGE favor by posting this clip! I just obtained a set of Walsh shuttlepipes and by watching you I can see how to hold them, the position of hands, arms, chanter, bag, drone tuning, pressure, etc. I am a beginner with no other source of help right now. I have been working out on a Walsh practice chanter. I play by ear and have tuned my drones to your clip and am now "in tune" playing along a very wee bit to your melody line. Thanks!!

    I like the curled fingers on the high hand, I should try playing like that once. Awesome foot tapping, it made me want to dance or something

    I've never heard ShuttlePipes! It's good that the first time I hear them, I hear THIS kind of a performance! WOw!

    Ja know...I'm sitting here in Brooklyn, NYC...and maybe I have not the good sense to notice your major f'ups, but here I am and there you are...and that was wonderful...THANK YOU!

    Wow, this popped up on my suggested videos, after 13 years since I posted a link to it on my Myspace page. I remember you asked me if I was just posting it, or if I was claiming to be the one playing. I was a grade 5 piper then, I am now grade three, but do not play much any more

    Brilliant, you are a fine piper.

  • @milpiper
    @milpiper  Před 11 lety

    Yes...both Scottish tunes. The second tunes is a popular older reel by Colin Craig (out of the Scots Guards book, I think). The pipes are not Welsh. They are a Scots-esque version made by pipemaker John Walsh. They use Scottish fingering and mode. The drone system is based on an old German set, as I understand...but similar to the French musette shuttle drone system. Hated to sell them...but spending all my time on Uilleann pipes now!

    Wow, very unusual top hand technique. Normally if I saw someone doing it I'd correct them, but it seems to be working out for you just fine. Nice playin'.

    Wow! What a great little video. As someone who is learning to play the pipes (GHB), it was amazing to watch your fingers at work. The pipes sound great. Keep up the good work.

    My bad, they don't even make those in D(didn't see the caption, either).It just looked like your hands were positioned really close together on the chanter.
    Good piping, and I'm going to assume that there was a "smiley" emoticon after your statement.Cheers.

    Great playing. This video actually made me want shuttle pipes about a year ago...I got three drone Walsh's, and I love them. I have one question though: Isn't it uncomfortable to wrap your top hand around the chanter like that? :P

  • @tyskydive

    sounds awesome and great playing! Im thinking of buying a set, is this a 2 or 3 drone model? also what reeds are you using

    • @milpiper
      @milpiper  Před 8 lety

      It was a 3 drone model. I was using stock reeds. They lasted about 3 years before I had to change them out. The bass drone was the first to go. Good to play around with and a nice indoor practice instrument. Far less fussy that my Uilleann pipes. :-)

  • @thunderstruckpiper
