The clarity on this video is amazing for time period it's from , excellent job
I was just thinking that!!
Love the "C'mon, I gotta go work on Monday." Some things never change!
It's crazy to see how hockey evolved since then. The game looked slower and the biggest difference today naturally is the goaltender. Back then, there seems to be also more aggression in the game. I think in that era, there was no fighting instigation penalty if my memory is correct.
no instigation. no game misconducts for a 2nd or 3rd fight during same stoppage of play. plenty of bench clearing brawls. The game may have been slightly slower but teams like Montreal were very fast. Most importantly, it was 3X as physical. Also in those days, refs (there was only 1, not 2) buried the whistle & let players not only decide the game but also police themselves. a lot of games were simply end to end action for minutes at a time. I miss that era. It was a different sport back then. Again, much more physical
@@VintageOnline100 I definitely agree, I miss 80's and early 90's hockey. I wasn't born in the 70's, so I can't comment.
More like De-evolved.
IDK how much better the goaltending is now, but the pads are sure a lot bigger!
@@lotus65pads are bigger and goalies use the “butterfly” more often now
Nice quality upload. Steve Payne was a really good player. Tom McVie acting tough with a cop and players in between, against…Brad Maxwell ? , easily one of the best scrapers in the league. McVie taking off his blazer added to his comedy act. As always, nice work xt 👍🏒
Yes nice upload , you know it takes heart in the game of hockey and it's moments like that what makes a team
Beautiful video. From a time when the players and teams weren't nearly as good, but the game was better.
Those Jets helmets are now utilized on short yellow buses in school districts all around Canada.
Why did the Jet #10 on the breakaway give up play after the save?
The North Stars were my team growing up
You can take the boy out of New Westminster but you can't take New Westminster out of the boy. Maxwell, a Bruins' alumni, showing some of the tactics that made the New Westminster Bruins so feared and hated in the mid 70's WCHL. Great video. Thanks for uploading. Only surprise is that it didn't end with Tom McVie and Minnesota coach Glen Sonmor going at it. Sonmor had a screw loose for sure.
Boris fistrik approves. 😅😂
unbelievable how long ago this was, in human years...i feel old.
Is this hockey? Where are all the ads???
This is a good quality video. Some uploads from the 90s look absolutely terrible and I think that there's no way the video quality was that bad. Heck, some of the uploads from the 90s are worse than black and white footage from the 50s.
Looks like modern day beer leagues today in Sarnia.
Look how small the goalie equipment was then.
Maxwell could handle himself well. Al McAdam had very quick hands. Like a cat. Wrong guy to fight as well.
That's assault brother
Still cheering wildly for a meaningless hit in the corner while getting scored on at the other end. 🙄
Old-time hockey!
