Because you aren't actually downloading the song.... You're right, you are recording what's going through your sound "area" (some people use onboard mobo sound). It's definitely not illegal, because you aren't downloading... At the point you record it, it is on your computer. It's hard to explain and I didn't do a great job just there, but trust me :P
Everyone who can't see the "What U Hear" option, please read: Go to the audio icon in your system tray, right-click it, and go to "Recording Devices" to open up the proper settings pane. In the pane, right-click on a blank area, and make sure both "View Disabled Devices" and "View Disconnected Devices" options are checked. You should see a "Stereo Mix" option appear. Right-click on "Stereo Mix" and click "Enable" to be able to use it.
Right-Click on the speaker of windows in the right bottom corner. click on recording devices. right-click anywhere and click on "show disconnected devices". Now you should have a device called "Stereomix". Go to it's preferences (right click, preferences) and activate it. Then go back to the recording devices and set the new "Stereomix" to standard.
Reply to me if you know how to record stuff like music using Audaity. I want to record in quality and record things without needing a mic. Please respond.
So why then they don't let you just click on link and download? They pay to musicans to let them stream music via Internet. If it was legal, they would put link for download :-) You are just copying what's going throught your sound card :-) Thats my opinion, but maybe you are true.

What about levels? You're going to want it to be a good volume level...

It really works. Must only change microphone to speakers at propeties.

audacity is such a great program. the audio recording quality is outstanding :D you cant beat this for a free program

hmm Im having the problem that I dont have an option to pick "what I hear" I only have the option for a microphone... Got any ideas ?
