  • There is a reference to the first film in the franchise. Poirot can be seen sitting by a table while admiring the Sphinx, and on the table there are two eggs in cups. This is a reference to his character struggling to find two eggs that are the exact same size for breakfast in Murder on the Orient Express.

    This is just a repeatedly mentioned aspect of his quirky character in the novels. it’s mentioned in like 12 places or something. he’s always asking for symmetrical eggs, Hastings jokes that if only hens would starting laying square eggs he’d be happy, (because he likes symmetry but not curves) or taking the waiter to task for not bringing the perfectly identical eggs he asked for. It’s not a call back to the movie, it’s a call back to a well known fact about the protagonist.

      And Branagh and Scott were wise to include Poirot’s obsessive compulsive behavior.

    David Suchet made Poirot nice, his Poirot had a form of happiness in just being alive. This Poirot is different.

    Kenneth is NOT Poirot, he should leave Poirot to Suchet.

      We can all agree that Suchet is the greatest portrayal of Poirot that we'll ever get on screen but Brannagh is doing a pretty good job. And its great that we still get to see the character in new films so he's still in the public eye. You can always go back and watch Suchet.

      If someone’s already done the perfect, book-faithful version of the character, why should someone new try to do the same exact thing? At some point reinvention was going to be in the offing. Though, I suppose people would have felt better about that if the character had entered the public domain first.

    Bouc clearly says he was let off by his uncle who owned the orient express because he did 'nothing' .. which is exactly what he said in the first movie after the train got derailed ... he slept for the rest of the night and in the morning he said he would do 'nothing ' about the storm as there are people who would come for rescue.

    in a haunting in Venice (2023), he has two eggs again, except he has a small white egg like In the first two movies, and a large brown egg as well.

    These are good movies. Idk why people don't like them. Kenneth's portrayal of Poirot is precise and his character improves with each movie.
    Orient Express: Classic Poirot
    D/ on the Nile: Elevated Poirot
    Haunting in Venice: Perfected Poirot

      They’re not vert fairhful, but Poirot isn’t exactly hurting for faithful interpretations. What with the Suchet series and all. At some point, reinvention was going to be the next step. And they could have done worse. At least they didn’t try to make him an action hero or send him to the 22nd Century like folks have done with Sherlock Holmes.

    • @suzie_lovescats
      @suzie_lovescats Před 5 měsíci

      He’s the worst! He makes Poirot an action hero and has no respect for how Christie wrote him. If you want to watch a far better interpretation of the character then watch all the movies and short stories with David Suchet as Poirot.
