    10 + years ago in Maine we had several mills running and thanks to overseas competition they are all shut down and the last one shut down I think it was this summer. We had in New Hampshire the last company town was Lincoln, New Hampshire and the EPA gave them until a certain date to have a new water treatment plant installed and up and running. Due to a real bad winter 105+ inches of snow they fell behind and needed a 6 month extension to finish the treatment plant. The EPA refused to give them an extension the Boston & Maine Railroad had a branch that ended in Lincoln 72 miles in length that was making money every other day a freight would run 80-100 cars to and from Lincoln to Concord, New Hampshire they ran right up until the permit from EPA expired allowing them to dump untreated effluent into the river then shut down. 700 people out of work in one shot 97% oh the town the rest were dpw and a few local small business operations. The state had to move a trailer office in to handle the unemployment claims. What's worse they finished the treatment plant but the EPA refused to issue a permit for the plant to reopen. Mill was sold with promises of reopening and hiring everyone back. The new owners sold the machinery and tore down the plant great and I mean excellent skiing in that area the former mill site still exist the railroad part owned by the state and leased segments of the rail line support 4 different tourist railroads. 85% of the mill site is now condominiums. A house sold for $25-30,000 in 1971 now sells for at its peak $500,000 pricing the locals right out of town. I used to snowmobile in Lincoln in 1972 the year they shut down Lincoln from 1972 is totally unrecognizable. The woods that supplied the pulpwood are virtually untouched since 1972 a small amount going into Maine but as their mills died it's a shame in Maine alone we have I believe over 3,000,000 acres of timberland all privately owned with little to no customers like they did when several mills were operating. I'm a retired tucker and railroader there was one paper mill we would switch every day m-f we would take our lunch on their siding couple a days a week, talking to the power house engineer one day and inquired where's your log yard? Don't have one he replied. ???? We make paper from worn jeans he said. The light bulb went off which is why I can't tell you where it is. It is the sole supplier to the US for paper for something we all use. Money.
    Have a good month and may the price for hardwood rise!
    Jim

    In 1989 while building a bridge, a Hattiesburg crew was driving pilings for me. A flange from 65 - 75' up broke away from the lead and hit their foreman in the head, taking 55 stitches. He survived because of his hardhat though only back to about 75% ability. A hardhat is probably the cheapest/best safety gear you can buy/wear. Use common sense and stay safe!
    Love the videos, keep 'em coming!

    That grapple saw might be a bit slow but at least it's not a cheap one made in Mexico L.O.L., I don't know much about how old that chain saw is but that one looks like it might be near as old as he is, with how well built it is.

    I know you don't need the pull through where you have a processor but have you tried it? And if so how does the 437 compare to a 410 prentice for delimbing?

    • @cotontop3
      @cotontop3  Před 7 lety

      +06lbzduramax3500 that's not really a fair comparison for me because the 410 I use to run was a 1998 model and this 437 is quite a few years newer. I don't think I have even put a tree in the delimber on the 437 to even see how it would do.

    • @06lbzduramax3500
      @06lbzduramax3500 Před 7 lety

      cotontop3 thanks for the reply! I'm thinking of buying something for a pull through nothing new but maybe a decent older 410 or 24000 hood. Gonna see how the markets are we just lost 3 paper mills in the last year so the remaining mills are flooded so I'm just kind of waiting at the moment. Our log markets are doing decent at the moment tho hope that continues

    • @cotontop3
      @cotontop3  Před 7 lety

    You need new wiper blades urgent for that windscreen Tim, one at least is completely knackered!!
    You talk about low prices for your produce, we are suffering really badly with very low prices for wheat (for either milling grade or animal feed grade), barley is even worse such that it is the same or less as 10 years ago per ton. You don't need telling what has happened to diesel, machinery, fertilizers and sprays in the meantime.

I have never heard anyone on CZcams explain that all you have to do to subscribe is hit the button. like myself I'm sure there are some none techno dummy's out there that don't know how easy it is. so once again I do apologize and maybe so hillbillies like myself will read this and hit the old subscribe button. thanks for the enjoying videos.

      cotontop3 Ya its a great thing, means youtube believes in your content. Thats sadly how channels really make it or not. Almost impossible to get 100k subs with out youtubes blessing.
      Views and time spent viewing are the two most important numbers. Subs dont mean anything if they dont watch your videos.
      You keep It Up man, I say you have the potential to hit 100k subs within a couple years. Ive noticed a lot of youtubers geting drones these days, your channel could really benefit from one.
