  • Loads of Leeds city images (about 8 minutes long).
Always went with mum and my brother to Lewis's in the 1960's,
and used to shop here often in the 70's and 80's.
I have fond memories of the place, and it's changed a lot, but that's time going fast, the older we get!
    hope you enjoy ;-)

So nostalgic, lived in Leeds until I was sixteen and reading all those street names brought back such memories. It’s sad to see that Schofields and Lewis’s have gone

I was a child in the 50s and noticed that most of the photos from the 30s is how I remember Leeds. It is sad that so many beautiful buildings have disappeared. City square in particular was ruined, it was like a little oasis in the middle of town, my brother used to love the female statues with the lamps, he call them the "rude ladies".

Things 'improved' slowly in those days, but today Leeds has been ruined by modernisation gone mad in current times. So sad to see my memories of the late 60's (went to school and college in Leeds centre) have now gone, and the latest plans for once again changing city square will just finally kill any ambiance/memories thats left.

Marvellous, thanks for taking the time to do this.

I realised that with the before and after photos, the buildings with clocks specifically were kept up or at least updated without knocking them down completely. I feel Britain has respect for buildings with clocks. In my opinion it is because of the famous Big Ben Bell for the clock in London.

Sheffield has so much more history than Leeds
