Try wrapping electrical tape around the cut off strainer, it should fit then. Always frustration when making things the are non standard. Also frost damage on the cheap pots.

The pots have frost damage, I fitted the kockney koi filters cages but I had to use a dremel to grind down the pipe for it to fit into.
