Learn to sweep pick through arpeggios with these 4 simple patterns. At 5:58, the last note of the tab is WRONG and should say 10, not 12.

Also please forgive the weird video and green screen glitches as I continue to improve and iron out what my video setup will be. I had to record this twice and still am not happy with the final product but wanted to get a lesson up asap!
@5:58 u said 13 11 10 but tabbed 13 11 12
ahhhhhhhhh you're right! I put that correction in the video description, thank you! It should be 10. I have to be more careful with my transcriptions
Signals Music Studio can you tackle Meshuggah's polyrhythm for us?
Don’t worry about the green screen, you’re awesome anyway!
The orange text said a lot of werid things too
Your voice sounds like you could be a radio host
he reminds me of Obama for some reason
De Potter M. true lol
same here, but 2:11 am one year later
@sploofmonkey
STFU, moron.
From the 50's
Best guitar teacher on the internet. Period. Absolute genius....I mean the way Jake explains these complicated techniques is just genius.
erivers71 ...i like this guy and paul davids and claus levon and there are a few more, but those are my favorite ones
have a clear voice that sounds like a tire commercial helps tool
Aside from guitar techniques and the great videos
Man anyone can be called a teacher but few are really able to teach
You're inspiring dude
Keep up the good stuff👍
Cheers 🍻

The magnetism of that microphone is so strong it creates a gravitational field that distorts his face. That's science that is
hydorah You can't create a gravitational field unless you have some sort of extra-terrestrial shit no one knows about. You could literally bend light as well as time.
@@j.hateshisjob5137 everything creates a "gravitational field", or a bend in spacetime
@@j.hateshisjob5137 everything has a gravitational field of some size bro how do you think planets have gravity I mean there's no "special technology" in them
pretty sure its the green screen that's distorting
idk tho, maybe your right
I’m not nitpicking, I just want to save frustration for later viewers. This video has helped me IMMENSELY with this technique, but I had to rewatch the videos many many times because I just wasn’t getting it. On the 3-string sweep you start with, the tabs you provide are not the same as what you’re playing, and what you’re playing is definitely way easier to do. Your tabs went “12-11-10-13-11-12” (on the respective strings, but I can’t write tabs in a comment) but in reality you played “12-11-10-13-11-10” then repeat. That 10th fret on the g string was a GAME CHANGER when I finally realized it. So much easier to play and pick up speed when you don’t have to double pick the same note.
Great video. You are an excellent teacher and humble which in the ego centric guitar world is a breath of fresh air. The basic sweep technique using your arm was the most important thing I learned. Thankyou and keep on shredding!
Yes, great observation. Easier to park your arm, but moving the arm is the key. Did not appreciate that until I saw this video.
30 years and still my Achilles' heel. I never had the patience to practice them properly. As a young player in the Bay Area in the late 80's, I was bored to death by metal/thrash bands with Skolnick clones shredding three-string arpeggios in every solo. I do wish I had spent more time on them but not that much. That's why I never got my Shred Club membership card.
Great lesson and thank you for the video. All the best from the Bay Area.
MK
This is by far the best introduction to sweep picking arpeggios on CZcams. There is just enough information to keep you busy, without being bored. Always great content.
i was going to leave a comment but this sums it up perfectly
One of the first techniques I wanted to learn that got me playing guitar, and it's still eludes me. But your instructions are top-notch as always. Hopefully when I practice to this I might finally get some success. Thank you
I've put this into my practice routine for a couple weeks and my playing has cleaned up and my speed is getting better. Thanks for the vid
Most of my advancement in guitar skills is directly attributable to you. I've begun to learn things I never would have thought I could just a few years ago. Keep up the great work!!!🎸🎸
Thanx a lot for the muting strings part! There are so many really good instructional videos about sweep arpeggios around, but nearly ALL of them miss this part. And in terms of motivation, which for me comes out of a good tone, this is crucial. Very nice!
I've seen a bunch of your videos, and I have never thought you go through things too quickly. What I have thought is that you're the best teacher I have seen on CZcams. Really. Seriously. You're good! I don't have to sit through tons of extraneous stuff before you get down to teaching, and you don't wander off into tangential land every couple minutes. I really appreciate your lessons.
It's 2AM and I'm practicing (butchering) arpeggios. Someone send help, I think I've finally cracked.
E Crews Go to bed and try again with a refreshed mind. It helps a lot more than people say
No, keep going till you break. That's how I mastered sweeping
1:44am rn
ill play till i break
no, that is completely normal.......sleep later.
How are you now 2 years later? 😁
Beautiful lesson man, I especially like that you use the word "difficult" to clue us in to the concept that it takes effort!
Great lessons. You seem like a very humble person.
You are a great teacher, not all the wasted minutes of side talk and stories....much appreciated that you value students time by doing that...also love your 90 miles per hour delivery, keep up the good work...it’s helping me teach my students top play better
I’ve been playing professionally for decades but I find these videos awesome ! Much love to you brother 👍
Wish I knew where you were when I started around 16 years ago. It would have been such a fast track by avoiding all the filtering through books, cds, dvds, you name it!
Absolutely love your work and a joy to watch. All the best and thank you for your time!
Fantastic video! You are so clear and organized in your application of sweep picking. This is the 1st video that actually made me feel like I actually have a shot at doing this. Thank you!
Your voice is so soothing and comforting. Helps with the lessons. Thanks, good sir.
Those exercises gave me the feel of the sweeping motion. Thanks a lot for this and great tips. Was able to perform sweep picking in a few hours with these exercises. It really is effective. Will include this on my warm ups from now on. Bless you.
Thank you for taking the time to make this video and others. I’ve learned so much watching you at least in a vernacular way. You have helped so much including me. Your videos are beyond perfect with you word choice, the way you present the subject, and how you explain it. Thanks again.
I love this minute breakdown of all the movements involved!
I've now watched like 5 sweep picking videos, read about it from 2 different books and practiced for like 2 hours.
I had one question about the technique on my mind that none of these addressed before. Seeing your video on my feed and knowing your presentation and teaching methods I was fairly certain that you'd tackle the subject on my mind.
Boy, I was NOT let down by you! Thanks and keep up the great content!
I justt happened to stumble across this tutorial, and I just want to say thank you. I have never seen a more understandable explanation of this technique. Everyone else jumps straight in six string sweeps with loads of ho/pos, and it becomes this unobtainable goal. Definitely need to keep repping these excercises.
Is this THE BEST sweep-picking-technique lesson on CZcams/anywhere-really? - Absolutely! This dude is gifted in many ways, not just musically, one of them is his teaching ability - how he reveals the assumedly complex/impossible to be simple & approachable - and well possible with the right practice & teacher. Great stuff as always Jake!
I love your lessons so much. They really help and are great, even for an experienced guitar player.
Bro you're one of the coolest teachers ever man, love people like you !
Finally, someone explained sweep picking in a way I can understand it and practice it. Nice lesson.
that thing with the wrist helped me soooooooooo much!!!! Thank you for this!!!!
You inspire me to continue learning and give it in such understandable and well set up manner. Just amazing teacher - this should be a tutorial for guitar teachers!! Thank you so much for your work mate!
You made my heart drop when i thought you said Liam Gallagher was sweep picking. This video was worth it just for that !! Haha
really awesome videos man! these are exactly what i've been looking for to improve myself. you break down these techniques and make them doable! awesome coaching/teaching!
Excellent physical breakdown. Thank you!
I had to subscribe to this channel because I love how in depth and detailed that he presented everything. Hope there are other videos like this on his channel! Thanks
The best tutorial I’ve ever seen in you tube so far. Thank you sir!
Really appreciate your videos. You are incredibly knowledgeable. Love the variety of theory and technique👌
You're seriously the best guitar teacher out there man. I'm a huge fan.
Watched at least 7 other sweep picking videos..man I gotta tell you..awesome awesome lesson..you give inspiration and get right down to the magic.
Thank you so much for these sweep lessons mate , Im Gonna practice this!
Great vid !
I notice and appreciate the extra effort to teach people and offer things someone might want or not realize is helpful. some of these guitar related videos seem more about the ego of the video maker, than about helping people looking for help
I really appreciate your teaching style, it's excellent. And as an older dude, I really appreciate your very clear pronunciation. It's such a nice thing to hear from the younger generation, gives me hope.
Thanks! It's always great to get another point of view in a technique, I've been doing sweeps for sometime, but just listening to your vid, I got some new and interesting ideas! Thanks!
Enjoying the lessons. Informative and helpful!
you're a really good teacher, you patiently break down everything
This was the most or at least the best detailed sweep vid I’ve seen. Thank you!
dude that Haken show at Bottom Lounge was insane. Liam was an absolute MONSTER. really enjoyed the video, very informative. :)
By the way, I'm an old guy, and spend most of my time trying to break old habits of a strictly blues/rock player. Not easy when your old...love the channel, and your really helping guys like me that constantly look for things to inspire to keep picking the plank up...nice job. These sweeps , even though I will NEVER be able to do them at break-hands speed, are absolutely gorgeous in other styles as well....and great accents to lead fills...Very cool.
Great comment. Keep growing, always...
ROCK ON!
Wow, for you to acknowledge such a thing is impressive as it is....
i knew an older guitarist who was INCREDIBLE..... but he could only play really in A major lol..... Or whatever the key of judas priest and AC/DC is lol..... he could fuckin shred with the best of them though, but to try and get him out of his style was impossible.
Never say never. You can do it if you practice long and hard enough. The only way you are GUARANTEED to NEVER get it, is if you NEVER practice. Good luck!
@@upplsuckimcool16 and I bet he never practiced anything new
Love the lessons man, keep up the playing!!
Great instructional design. Awesome video!
You are a very good teacher. Congratulations. Everything well explained and with a clear presentation. Thank you!
What a legend this guy is. Thanks for being so awesome.
It actually makes me feel better knowing that you have things that are difficult for you. When you said watching that other guitar player made you want to quit playing guitar... That's how I felt when I heard/saw Tosin Abasi play and when you talk about chords/theory cuz you just know the stuff like it comes so natural to you. I'm not quitting anytime soon though. Great vids
You definitely have natural teaching skills. And you get to the point showing what needs to be done. I never tried sweep picking because I was always messing it up but the way you explained is simple to start doing it, plus adding exercises is the best combo possible. Subscribed, of course 🤟🏼😎👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Very well explained. You’re an excellent teacher.
This is definitely the best guitar oriented channel on youtube. Bonus points for being a Haken fan.
Best learning channel thank you for all your efforts salutation from Algeria
This was totally awesome. I like that you know that everyone wants different levels based on what they play!
Your videos are really helpful! Thanks a lot
This is seriously the best channel I have found! I've even created a playlist of just his stuff. I have learned much more from this man than from most of my favorite channels. I wish I was in a position where I could support Jake(?) on Patreon, but doubt not, I will be repaying the great favors!
SMS- you my friend, ROCK!!! I wouldn't change a single thing in your videos, simply perfect! The content is challenging but within reach and the delivery is interesting, and not dumbed down, which seems to be the case on other channels now and then. Instead, it seems that you take the time to explain what you're discussing. Perfection!👌🏻🙏🏻
Rock on, good people! 👊🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🎶🖤🦇🔥👏🏻🙃
This the most clear explanation. Subscribed!
Thank you sir. This was hard for my 52 year old fingers as a beginner on the electric guitar. Very fun though. It is really a great exercise in general for me. Greetings from Sweden 🇸🇪
Wow, I was able to pick this up really quick, thought it would be harder. Thank you so much!
I've been playing these 3 techniques over three months and I can now say I can sweep pick pretty well!
Dude... youre a great profesor... Hats off man
I love this channel! 🤘❤️🤘
I love your videos man, I really appreciate your time for teaching us XD thanks!
This channel is gold for learning guitar
Great teacher! Look down it’s been a month playing with this off and on an I love it!! It was easy after 2 days then building the speed. Thanks man!
You are a great teacher. you explain all in a very understandable manner
You are an amazing teacher. Just wow.
Beautiful breakdown on technique
What a fantastic lesson. Thank you mate
I've been a musician for 30 years and I never stop learning. Even from younger people. I Love your video. You are super talented bro and great at insteucting 👍
holy shit, dude was born to teach, your videos are simply amazing, many thanks for sharing your knowledge with us and congratulations on your phenomenal work.
You are truly a great teacher and a great guitarist
I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS. Just the right ratio of theory to practice and just such a great teacher! Thank you! This is so difficult for me. Fretting the notes individually but picking them in one stroke... man oh man!
best explination i have ever seen.subbed
thank you for a very inspiring down to earth attitude and sympathetic teaching ideas.
What a cool video. You have a great way of explaining and showing the technique and I finally understand/get what sweep picking is. Now time to head to the woodshed! Thanks.
Concise and to the point, easily understood, with good visuals... and honesty 👌
Thank you👍
It is my 2022 goal. You have set me in the right direction thanks.
love your lessons dude!
You are a great teacher, Amigo. Good job 👏
Thanks for helping me out of my sweep-picking rut.
You are a great teacher, hope you’ll keep teaching :)
You, sir are an excellent teacher. In fact I think it's rare. You've got the talent, the techniques, a deep understanding of music theory *and* you also happen to be excellent at conveying your thoughts and lessons. = High value lessons.
Nice job, and thank you for keeping it real.
I really enjoyed this video! Thanks a lot for it!
Good quality video and excellent exercises! Thank you.
Probably the best sweep tutorial I've seen
Me too
Great job at teaching so it's understandable for us rookie sweepers!!! Thanks man!
just found your channel. Thank you for your work. Helps tremendously.
Great lesson, Jake!
this must be one of the best and learnsome video i have ever seen about sweeppicking
Love your personal input and insights in your lessons. I’ve been watching all of your videos, and I’ve developed so much understanding and appreciation for music theory. Phrygian was such a mystery to me (the middle easterny melodic sound, I didn’t even know what to call it) but with your videos I’m actually writing music on Ableton following menacing demonic Phrygian scales!!! Thank you! (Awesome Hammet guitar btw!) I’m just gonna keep on practicing and practicing.
Best explanation I’ve seen
Great video 🎸
That's so helpful! Thank you!
