Why will anyone want to live longer….. my mother is going to be 83 in a couple weeks and she is always hurting and telling me about it . I want to go before my kids get tired of me . 💕
I’m sorry and I understand that experiencing your mom in pain must be difficult. My own mom is 96, she’s had a heart attack and a couple of strokes, she’s frail and is basically waiting to die. So I know what it’s like to have an elder parent suffering from advanced “old age”.
But here’s the point that a lot of people seem to miss. Extending the human lifespan is not about extending that period of your life where you’re old and decrepit. Longevity is about keeping what we know as “old age” at bay for as long as possible and to remain “young” way beyond what is considered normal. It’s about extending your “health span”, that part of your life where you’re active, energetic and full of life. It’s about compressing that portion where we’re frail and sick down to 5 years or less, that portion that comes at the end of our lives and lasts for up to 20 or 30 years in some folks and that is known as “morbidity”.
If we can do that, if we’re still healthy, mobile, energetic and active at 90, or 100, then we’ll have extended our lives a decade or two beyond the normal lifespan of 75 or 80. Had longevity interventions been available to my mom and had she lived a longevity lifestyle her whole life, I believe that she would now be living her life at the same pace she did when she was in her 50s or 60s.
That’s what longevity is all about.
Of course why would you want to live longer if your weak wrinkly and sick,,,
How sad that you are tired of your Mother. But is she wanting to die now, or is it just convenient for you?
My father in law is 97 and although he lost his wife last year he still wants to live.
So maybe you have pain. Maybe you even have migraines, do you want to die??
I can't get over how young people want us to die and get off the Social Security that WE, not the government, paid in since our first jobs. You sound exactly like a Republican. Check your Bible and really analyze why you think old people should die. Maybe you can find some advice there instead of Fox News!
People should be aware of Metformin dide effects. Metformin eats up the vitamin B12 in your liver, when it's depleted you muscles and connective tissue gets eaten away. If you have pain, join or muscle pain stop using it for a couple days and your pain may go away.
Metformin nearly killed me and i have deterioration of muscle and organism.
It didn't slow or stop me from cancer.
I have a pace maker, liver damage among other ailments.
It killed my father because it wasn't caught in time.
This video is so inaccurate it's scary.
It's about being in as good a shape as you can before you check out. I plan on being in great shape till I die.
Dad took metformin and beat cancer 3 times. Lived to be 95
i have been taking metformin for over 20 years for diabetic i started in my 50th and today people don't give me more then 55 to 60 and my real age is 74 so i think something must be working and i am grateful for that
I started taking the metformin six years ago when I was 42 years old...
I am now 36 years old. The stuff works great! 💪
😃 There you go!

I was diagnosed T2D in August 2021. I was 46, my glucose was 210, my A1C was 8.4, and I weighed 240 lbs. Metformin, along with a healthy diet and exercise, has helped me to drop my A1C down to 5.2, my fasting glucose usually sits in the upper 80s to low 90s, and my weight has dropped down to 198. I cannot begin to state how much better I feel. But at 48, I look and feel better than I did at 28.
Same with me but I was diagnosed at 29. The reason you feel great isn’t because of metformin, it’s because you’ve been controlling your diabetes and what were previously symptoms of pre diabetes.
Hi are you still on metformin?
@@ZumbawithDorothy yes
Better get your testosterone levels and estradiol levels checked as well, Metformin causes the Aromatize enzyme to turn testosterone into estrogen
Congrats to you!… I started on metformin in early January. I have changed my diet , started exercising , and I’m doing 18/6 intermittent fasting…. Lost 25 lbs, and feeling much better!👍
My testimony regarding Metformin, I was prescribed with this drug in 1995 or 1996 and been taking it ever since. Now I am almost 78 years old and I still feel very healthy, doing some walking everyday for a mile or two.
There you go, another user who likes it. Lots of haters commenting here.
I agree, I have been taking metformin for as long as you have and I feel great. I turned 79 last August. Also I have been exercising and walking, although not as far as you due to back pain which, coincidentally or not, after a few months of taking Turmeric is much less than it used to be..........no way I want to stop taking metformin.........
About the same age as me, but my legs out walking somewhere feel like they are going to catch fire these days after about 30 minutes or so..... so my suspension is a bit knackered now, and need more springs and shock absorbers.....*sigh* My dose is 500Mg (Mod(SR)-release-tablets) these days x 2 a day for some years now along with some other meds.
Update...now 80 and still taking the metformin. I get lots of comments saying I look much younger. Don't know if that is because of the metformin, but since metformin gets blamed for everything bad I'll go with metformin helping me look younger....a side effect I can live with.......
@@robertstancliffsr9575How are you doing? I always see your comments. I hope you are still doing 👍.
I started metformin for insulin resistance, I can say this, my mental health has improved drastically, it definitely does something over all I also am more thirsty and I feel warmer in the body. I just started so Im hoping it does help with my weight which I think it will. Im thinking the higher body temp is burning fat.
This is an update regarding my Type 2 Diabetes. I went to have my bloods checked about a week back. I went to see the Diabetic technician last Tuesday. This is what happened and I will explain why. She asked what I thought my results were like ?. I said I had no idea ( how could I when she had all the info on the computer which I could not see ). Your results are excellent. I have changed my diet as follows. Eating scrambled egg for breakfast with my tablets, plus drinking half a bottle of pure orange juice, 25 mls of Aloe Vera and a coffee with coffee mate and 3 sweetners and drinking bottled water. At about 10 am I have several cooked chicken slices with a baby bell and a mature cheddar both are about 20 gram portions. I have the same at about 2 or 3 pm. I have the same at 4.30 to 5 pm. I have 2 baby bell cheeses at about 9 pm. I have cut out all the salads. I walk about 2 to 3 miles per day. I have lost 14 pounds in weight and I have lost 3 to 4 inches from my waste. I allow myself about half a bar of Bourneville dark chocolate each day. I should also add I am 1 mmol from going into remission. I am now borderline Type 2 Diabetic and have started to take a multi vitamin and multi mineral she suggested I should take. If I can do this at age 69 years old anyone can do it. Cut out ALL alcohol as well. I hope this helps anyone else trying to lose weight. I have. PC. 06. 07. 2022. PS. Any questions ?.
My Metformin adventure started 8 weeks ago. My weight has dropped from 210lbs to 190lbs from Sept/22 to Nov/22. I'm not pre-diabetic, so I'm taking it off-label. Motivated after studying Dr. David Sinclair, (my son said we should be guinea pigs and do this experiment} taking Berberine, Resveratrol, NMN and practice regular intermittent fasting. He is doing it for longevity to live to 150 years. I am doing it NOT to extend my life but to reverse my biological age so that I have the cardiovascular performance, physiology and hormones of a 20 year old cyclist, yogi at the age of 100 years. I take Metformin rather than Berberine as Metformin is David Sinclair's first choice. My target weight is to lose another 30lbs to get down to my college weight of 160 pounds over the next 3 months. I regularly fast and eat OMAD (one meal a day) and am active every day either cycling or yoga.
Do you take the nmn? I also watch sinclairs videos.. Been on metformin for about 5 years
Not because of him because all the info I was reading about it
I took nmn and tmg but I didn’t notice a difference on nmn but I may try it again. I love tmg though.
I wish I could weigh 65kg again

It's a very useful and safe drug, not surprised it is the "go to" drug for type 2 diabetes.....maybe I will get a chance to test the longevity effects of metformin......
Hey Lance, Thank you for taking the time to put together a very clear and concise video on this subject, you have a UK subscriber and I look forward to your up and coming videos, if they are half as good as this one they will be probably about the best and most informative videos I have ever seen on youtube. Thank you. Very good video. Keep up the good work.
Good video lots of info. Guess you’re 71 now, I just turned 70 a month ago. I’ve been taking 1000mg/2x/day since January 2005 when I was diagnosed with Type II diabetes. In August, 2020, I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Since then I have embarked on a serious physical regimen to slow the progress and hold my PD at Stage 1. My weight is down to 170 lbs., the lowest since high school. I have built muscle mass and my fitness level is greatly increased. When people meet me, they think I might be 60, which is gratifying. So I don’t think it’s just the Metformin, but clearly I am a very healthy “sick” person, and don’t feel or look my age.
While the metformin might help, I'm sure that your current lifestyle is having a much bigger impact on your health and how well you're aging. Keep up the good work.
My wife had stage III cervical cancer she had surgery and radiation on. It went into remission. Then years later she had breast cancer which she had surgery on to remove. After hearing metformin might prevent cancer I gave her small amounts of my metformin which she is still taking present day. She has been cancer free for over 11 years now. For people that are afraid to take metformin there is goat's rue of which metformin is derived from and is probably about the same.
Metformin is cancer causing. This information was known at least 3 years ago.
While N=1 experiments have to be taken with a huge bucket of salt, were your observation to be found to have valid biological basis, it would support my hypothesis about metformin that while it probably wont touch anyone who is in absolute and perfect state of fitness (which is less than 0.1% of humanity) the magic that metformin shows that there is some sort of pathology underway that it can somehow fix be it diabetes, cancer or something. Then the results of metformin trial should turn out to be encouraging. But I think it will cut both ways. While some people notice relief of cancer with its others would see a rise in the cancer so in the end, we won’t be any further ahead. This was observed in a tiny recent lifestyle-based study by the Lifespan. While some observed biological clock showing other shockingly saw it accelerating. The mystery of aging and how to temper with it is going to stay an enigma for long time if not eternity.

Hi David, good to see you here; this is an excellent channel. I agree Berberine vs Metformin would be a good topic to cover.
Hey David, great suggestions. I've got a video in the works on Berberine...I might make it more of a "Berberine vs Metformin" video based on your and Vince's recommendations. Also, I'm working on a video that addressed NAD precursors that I thing you might find a bit surprising.

This is very interesting. I am 59 and was put on Metformin a couple years ago, and I hate it. Mainly because I hate being Type 2 diabetic and I hate taking pills. That said, I have lost 30lbs and feel great. I even went on a 500 mile bike ride this summer and aced it. I haven't felt this good in years. I chalked it all up to the exercise, but after watching your video and doing some research over the last few days..... I'm starting to think I may like that I am taking this Metformin. I have so much to learn! THANK YOU for this wonderful information. I will continue to exercise and ride my bike. :-)
62 yo here. Also lost weight and doing more exercise since my type-II diagnosis. Interestingly, when meeting a new group of people, I'm often told I look 50-ish or "I can't believe you're over 60". There may be something in it?
I'd say i will happily accept normal aging. Metformin made me extremely sick. "it will pass" they said. 8 years of that garbage from them without them investigating or even trying to help me. I had explosive diarrhea to the point i could not leave home and had to stay near a bathroom at all times. I had ZERO warning, ever, even when taking antidiarrheal twice per day (also very unhealthy). I was weak, severely fatigued, and dangerously dehydrated (and it wasn't even helping my blood sugar any more!). I finally had enough and went to a different doctor and got put on different medications. Within 2 days of stopping metformin, guess what. Yep, you guessed it, normal bowel behavior. Never again.
Same experience.
Try 250mgs dose 2x day. You were taking too much per day or per dose.
My mother in law is the same ,but I tell her to reduce only one ,then she tell me thank you ,I save her from being all time in bathroom, she stop her diarrhee,.,in many years I don't no because I live another house, but she break her hand ,then I take her from my home to look at her ,,them when I give her dinner, she tell me to give two drugs of metformine,I am. Afraid,,no it is bad,, , why check first them you drink,,,now she is happy,no diarrhe🙌🙏
@@DG-nb6fe Unfortunately, not so. Any metformin at all. I tried just taking half of what you suggested with the same result.
Never had diarrhea from metformin in my 35 years of taking it, mostly at 2000mgs twice daily, But as I got into my mid 70's I started being constipated which I believe may in part be the metformin...and just getting old...remember the jokes about old people being sure to eat their prunes? I take a stool softener for the constipation...
I’ve been on this rx since February. And for the first time in a long time, I now have chills in AC temps that never used to bother me. My sleep hasn’t been the best it could be, so I know there are other contributing factors to my chills. But that it was mentioned as a side effect on this video caught my attention.

I have been on 2000mg Metformin for a year. The only side effect is decreased appetite with the positive result of losing 30 lbs and feeling very well. Occasionally some GI 'hurry" if I don't take it with enough food. I take B12, and eat a healthy, balanced diet. HBP is easily controlled with meds.
I am 89 and work 2 days a week by choice, drive, and take care of my house and garden (that is my main exercise). and volunteer in several capacities. All good.
It is an interesting drug that I understand has been used in other areas, e.g. as an anti-flu medication in the '40's. Presumably, because it has an anti-inflammatory effect.

Dude you are 70!!! You have a subscriber...
het=y there Lance. Great stuff. Very concise, accurate and you're a great presenter, dude. Only one problem, you must update metformin's effect on the kidney's. a few large studies have shown it has little or no effect - no lactic acidosis. Check it out.
Thanks for the tip! Everything in this field moves so fast, there's always more to add.
The lactic acidosis was always a very unlikely side effect. Many drugs now list side effects up to and including possible death. This is a result of too many lawyers and drug companies trying to put the liability for anything negative that even "might" happen, no matter how unlikely on the person who takes the drug. The goal is, no matter what happens, you were warned. By the time this gets to the internet, as in this case with metformin, it has turned into, "metformin will kill you"! This is what the internet does, more often than not......
That is a very interesting video, I'm pleased to hear some positive information regarding Metformin, I wonder if the same effects can be found in the slow release Metformin medication. Thanks for the useful information.
After 30 plus years of taking 1000mgs 2Xdaily of metformin (and breaking the pills in half, taking them 4 times daily) I decided to try the extended release version. I quickly gave that up because control of my blood sugar was not even close to what It was with my 4 times daily dose of metformin. Went back to what was working well.........If I just took the timed release pills and did not check my blood sugar often, I would likely be happy with them.....
Hi. Thanks. For all of these. Good. Lessons I have. A lot of. Health. Issues. So. This. Helps me.

You just got yourself a new subscriber from Namibia. To get straight to the point. I was recently diagnosed with PCOS which causes me to be infertile and the doctor prescribed for me Metformin and Genitte to be taken together. My question is, is it safe for these two medicines to be taken together and do you think they will be the answer to my infertility problem? On the other hand, I am on medication for high blood pressure 😫
Since taking metformin for type 2 (I am 67) I have more energy and my IBS (due to diverticulosis) has pretty much cleared up! I was taking Imodium nearly every day but in the last two months I have only had to take it twice! I have fibro so walking excercise is difficult but I dance around indoors to salsa music! By far the clearing up of the constant dihorrea ( sp?) is fantastic. Although that may be due to giving up sugar!
I am on Metformin for PCOS. I weened myself off of it and found after a few months more fine lines( I am 47), and my PCOS symptoms came back. I have gone back on half the dose and find that it works better for me. I am thinking my body became accustomed to the medication and it was not working as effectively.
Glad to hear you found a dose that works for you.
Could it be that your body just needs metformin to function better? Just because someone who comes off their blood pressure meds has their high blood pressure come back, doesn’t mean their blood pressure medication made their body less able to manage it, it just means they might need meds to help treat their chronic high blood pressure?
I’m taking metformin to help with weight loss, certainly hope it won’t make my body less efficient!

Thanks for a very good video...Too good in fact
Expecting one more video on anticancer effects of metformin
Thanks and regards...
Noted. I'll see what I can do.
Thanks fr the video- entering stuff.
You bet!
I am 47 and take 500mg metformin sustained release after dinner. Which is better, extended/sustained release or direct release given that recent reports of carcinogenic findings on metformin medication. I am from India and not sure how rigid checking is.
There is noooo way you're 70.
WOW!!! You're amazing!
Wow, thank you! You're too kind. I guess everything that I'm doing to slow down aging is working!
@@LanceHitchings yessss I think you're right im 70 but lost people think I'm just early 50s,I eat right and exercise I take 500mg 2xday .

Really.

Thx Lance, great info again. Personally i take two times a day 500 mg of Berberine on days that i am not working out, and 500 mg a day in the evening on days i am working out.
Sounds great! I've got a Berberine video in the works. And suggestions or info would be appreciated.
Does Berberine affect testosterone levels in the same manner that it does Metformin?
@@808pacificstate does metformin have an effect on testosterone levels?
@@prepperjonpnw6482 yes. It’s been documented to affect certain men while others seemingly have been fine taking it throughout. It really depends on the individual I guess.

You're welcome. If you're new to the field of longevity, I would recommend staring with my series on the "Introduction to Longevity", followed by the Hallmarks of Aging playlist.

I have been taking metformin for type 2 diabetes 34 years and it keeps my A1C in the normal range for a non-diabetic, and allows me to eat most anything I want. I'm 78 now and it's good to hear metformin may have other benefits...............never had stomach problems of anything else I could blame on the metformin.....
I'm glad you are doing so well, and can eat what you want.
Great, you're one of the lucky few, it seems.
My husband has been taking metaformin for30 years or more for diabeties. He eats a normal diet ,doesn't overdo the carbs .92 years young, riding his bike nearly every day
@@leonetaylor6047 Thanks for that comment, all of a sudden 78 doesn't seem old. I hope he and you both say healthy for many more years......
@robert how is your ckd?
Agree, Metformin vs Berberine would be helpful. I am diabetic, tried Metformin. too harsh on my body. Using Berberine and getting good results. Say hi to Vince.
Excersise for most of its benefits would be an acute mTOR activator, whilst Metformin down regulates mTOR via AMPK activation... its a break on with the accelerator on moment the only way that is gonna work will be with a shorter acting metformin dose taken well outside of the exercise window or on off exercise days . this also raises the question are those who are elderly whom have type 2 diabeties running higher sarcopenia rates because of being on metformin, generally the long acting versions etc.....
I take it for high blood sugar. My RX is 2000mg a day but I cut the pills in half and take 500mg in the morning and 500 mg at night. I do this to try to prevent getting the runs. As stated in this video, it is important to take Metforman WITH FOOD or you can feel sick and get the runs like I did when I took my first 1000mg pill without taking it with a meal. I also take a B12 supplement for peace of mind. Good luck to all using Metforman =)

i have been taking metformin for 35 years and was suprised by this report as i am 68 years old but time and time again many times over people men women say i look no where near my age they say 50- 52 years old.the hospital nurses asked me my age and seemed they did not believe me and asked my date of birth to confirm this.not bragging just stating what others think thank you metformin.
There you go. Thanks for sharing this info. There's a lot of people who would disagree with you about the effects of metformin.

good information about metformin thank you
Thank you for the explanation about METFORMIN TABLETS I was taken since 2015 when they find out that I am Diabetic and so on fatty liver, high blood pressure, and many more tablets that are given to me or prescribe by my G P at that time and my diabetic are type 2, By the way my name is Mel from London thank you so much that I in counter today my problem now due to your explanation now I do understand every time that I taken (METFORMIN) I always have pain below my breast in between my ribs. Anyway now I know I understand I must say thank you. God bless and have a very good day, looking forward to hear again from you Doctor,
You might want to try berberine instead. Check out this video: czcams.com/video/QNy56C1_Xis/video.html
70 ?? GOD I WANT TO GET THERE LIKE THIS ! ❣
Thanks.
My doctor switched me from regular Metformin to Metformin ER and better gastrointestinal tolerability, with equal effectiveness.
👍
Good luck with the timed release......After 30 plus years of taking 1000mgs 2Xdaily of metformin (and breaking the pills in half, taking them 4 times daily) I decided to try the extended release version. I quickly gave that up because control of my blood sugar was not even close to what It was with my 4 times daily dose of metformin. Went back to what was working well.........If I just took the timed release pills and did not check my blood sugar often, I would likely be happy with them.....
Love it 🔥
Thanks 🔥
I've jus started on this med for type 2 diabetes. Your video was very interesting and informative. You don't look 70 either, I would say, not a day over 50.
Thanks, I appreciate it.
I have tried Metformin twice when doctors prescribed it and both times I was convinced I was going to die.
It felt as if the chest was about to explode.
Everyone is unique, and everyone reacts differently. Maybe try berberine instead?
@@LanceHitchings Thanks for the tips, I will try that, I'll order some right away. I read some about it now and its medical reviews sound very promising.
I have some same experience like your.
I stop talking it, my pharmacist told me it causes cancer! They pulled it off the market, so do your homeowners
@@maureenbrown4243 its not pulled off the market, not sure where you got that idea
only be that got shocked when this dude said he was 70? just wow... i thought around 50
I thought the exact same thing!
Same! Omg like 54 MAX
If he was 50 I'd say he looks like shit
my guess was 60 , still very very impressive
Great video!! What if you don’t have any kind of diabetes and want the anti aging benefits? Keep in mind that supplements are being taken, sunscreen is being used, working out 5 days a week, drinking water and eating well so it’s alll happening
So, this video and this channel are NOT about diabetes. It's all about aging. So yes, the whole point of this video is the longevity effects of taking metformin. There's another video where I compare metformin to berberine. I take berberine.
I'm a diabetic 4 probably 20 years. I have been on Metformin 12 years so this video was very interesting to me.
You must look young af I bet.
Any issues with your kidneys?
No problems with my kidneys
You’re making me feel better for having to take yet one more pill.
Yay???
im on metformin and im 67 years young!
👍
It is now 2 weeks using this medicine and i have no side effects noted since the start. I think it is giving me good result. My skin itcheness started to fade this time.
Great video had no idea that it was so good I even tried to change to a nother type 2 DIBET MED cause I herd that if you had a heart attack you would not be able to come back thanks for video very pleased sincerely FG
Hi Lance, great video;thanks.
How do you think Berberine stacks up against Metformin? I will start Berberine on 22 April.
That's a great question...one that I don't have an answer to just yet. But I'll let you know as soon as I do.
@@LanceHitchings Thanks Lance.
Beberine isn't absorbed well by the body.
It’s hard to get this on prescription if you’re not diabetic .
I’ve been experimenting with Berberine which is supposed to have a similar effect on blood glucose. It’s an ancient, therefore, well tested remedy.
So far it’s having a quite good effect on my appetite.
👍
What is "youthful methylation"? Does metformin increase or decrease methylation in general, or does it affect the specific methylation that occurs that is somehow "anti-aging"?
Very interesting
Is berberine as good Lance?
That's a question that everyone seems to be asking, and to be honest, I just don't know...yet. But I'm working on that.
That was very informative! Thanks very much! But also ageing is incredible strongly connected to one’s genes.
Absolutely 👍
That's debatable. I've read studies that put the influence of genes at about 10%-15%, and I've read another, more recent study that puts it much higher. But every study that I've read says that lifestyle is the biggest contributor to aging.
U know what i have type 2 and it does seem to have made me younger looking, like 10 years established...
This is the update I have been waiting for Lance. Liver function, is now normal. Kidney function are fine and improved. Blood sugar is 42. I am now pre Diabetic or Diabetic free. I have decided to stay on the one Metformin or Sukkarto SR 1 x 500 mg per day along with the other tablets I am taking and do not have to have my bloods taken again for 6 months. The diet and the walking have all worked. This morning I weighed in at 72. 85 kg, this is a loss of 22. 15 kg. This equals a loss of 48. 83 pounds. I weigh 11. 47 stone. I have at last reached that milestone you talked about. PC. 26. 04. 2023.
Great! Congratulations.
@@LanceHitchings Thank you very much Lance. I am at present trying to keep between 73 and 75 kg. PC. 30. 04. 2023.
My niece struggled for 5 years to get pregnant then her new doctor put her on metformin and 8 months later she was pregnant
Metformin sucks for me...it tears up my already sensitive stomach....I'm off it now and I feel waaay better
Although it seems to have a lot of benefits for many people the gastro side effects concern me. I also have a sensitive stomach.
What about Berberine? I've been taking that to regulate my insulin resistance because my system can't handle Metformin.
I was diagnosed with metformin with Type 2 diabetes mellitus without complications at the age of 38 . I still take metformin 500 MG twice a day. I diagnosed Type 2 diabetes mellitus without complications.. I'm 44 years old, middle-aged man. I take care of myself for my weight ..
Tried it for this, gave me pretty intense hypoglycemia after a couple weeks. I eat healthy, not on any other meds. I was taking 500 mg, cut it in half to 250, still getting the shakes unless I eat sugar or carbs . I did have controlled hypoglycemia before....I will stop it a while, which will balance it out, then try 100 mg.
Yeah, it's weird how it affect so many people differently.
