Just saw him on the news, last week, he was at the Bondi mall when the stabbings occurred. Saw this on CZcams. No idea how close he was to the incident but he was obviously shaken by it.
@@gmaureen I heard about that too! I live in New York, but I was so saddened to hear what happened. He has so much of my respect for helping aid people in such a traumatic scenario.

Bondi Rescue shared in a post that Reidy had given first aid to some of the wounded at the mall. I just hoped he wasn't there shopping with his young kids at the time 🙏🏻

I hate when people crowd when someone’s hurt - it makes the situation so much scarier. Me and my family were at the beach once and my sister got hurt and the amount of people crowding around us was stressful. I get people want to make sure there ok but please just watch from a distance not crowd ❤ good job though life guards

Maintaining your composure and taking care of her til the paramedics got there through three seizures is just… But her being embarrassed and apologizing for having them and calling herself an embarrassment to life just about did me in. My mom has seizures almost daily. She has a Cavernoma that causes them. No need for hospitalization unless she hurts herself falling etc, but I’m with her all the time, so no falls in awhile.
Your mom is lucky to have you ❤. It's good that you and she have built an understanding of her specific condition and her seizures don't require her to be hospitalised, but for the sake of general epilepsy awareness, I just want to point out that everyone's seizures are different. I think the first aid rule is if the seizure lasts more than five minutes, call an ambulance. Since the lifeguards don't know for sure how long her seizure was, best to be on the safe side. Also, since she keeps passing out like that, it's definitely worth going to hospital. Injury from a fall isn't the only danger from seizures. In the aftermath of the seizure that got me diagnosed with epilepsy, I desperately wanted to sleep, but for hours, every time I fell asleep, my heart rate would drop dangerously low. If I hadn't gone to hospital, I might not be here now.
Please make sure you carve out a life for yourself. I have watched someone I dearly love throw their entire life away to care for their mother who is generally ok but needs assistance sometimes. This person is now almost 40 and has no car, no career, no job, no savings, nothing, simply because their mother convinced them to stay with her 24/7 just in case she needs help with something. And this person loves their mom tremendously but is starting to see just how much life they've lost and can't get back. Don't do that. Make sure you still live and do things for you. I would hate to see another person throw everything away to take care of their mother.

Thank you Reidy for the help you gave to victims at the horrific mall situation 🙏🏻 I'd wondered when news first broke whether any on the Bondi guards might have been there, but my immediate thought on hearing Reidy had given first aid to some of the victims was that he hadn't been there shopping with his young kids. It will have been a horrific situation for the adults present but something so impossibly difficult for all the youngsters that would have been there to understand & get over. My thoughts & prayers aren't just with all the victims & their families but also with all the witnesses too 😢

She really should have gone to the hospital..ok she is used to seizures but these were complete blackouts without any warmings..love how Reidy was talking to her then noticed she'd gone again..its a big responsibility on the guys but they smash it every time.. !!lifesavers X 2
The blackouts without warning are the seizures. It’s ‘normal’ for some sufferers to have that happen.

Not every seizure needs a trip to the hospital. Most of them don’t. If it’s the first seizure they’ve had, it lasts for more than a minute or two or they fall and get injured that a hospital is necessary.
I agree … she should have let them look her over … my son started having fits when he was 2 due to a brain tumour, and was put on medication for them, which seemed to stop them. After several years he suddenly started passing out again and we thought it was his partial epilepsy again. But something in me being his mum told me things weren’t right and I took him to a cardiologist specialist. That appointment proved to be a miracle because he only went and had a fit in front of the heart specialist (! )…. who , after giving him first aid and doing an EEG and a heart scan, told us it was no epileptic seizure … but a cardiac syncope !
Two months later he was fitted a pacemaker and he’s been fine since! So getting checked out is absolutely fundamental 👍♥️
As a med student, it is quite common for neurologists to tell their patients when they should go to the hospital and when they are okay to self-monitor. If she has daily seizures, which I suspect she does, she would never be able to leave the hospital and live her life if she went to the hospital every time.
This has twice happened to me. Luckily, it transpired that both of my seizures were through dehydration. My potassium levels were almost zero, yet I was confident that I was absolutely fine just before they happened. It’s a horrible feeling. I hope she’s ok 🙏

This reminds me of my seizures that I have surviving from them nearly 14 years😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 Cause we found out when I was like 3 months because we found out September 28, 2010 and now I have to have surgery in October please pray for me❤

The advice is that if someone has a seizure for longer than 5 minutes or more than one in a row a visit to the hospital is recommended. Often these visits will not result in anything in particular but seizures can and do cause brain damage so its never worth risking.

When beachgoers are asked to not surround the person in need of medical assistance they still creating a crowd, yes as beachgoers we would all like to see the best outcome for the person being attended to by lifeguards, but come on please stop creating a problem because when paramedics need to get to the person there’s 20+ people hurdled around the lifeguards, give them space, just go back to your beach activities unless that person is a friend, family member then that’s where the lifeguards attending to the person who has passed out, hit their head on the rocks, sandbank, or into someone else then this where important medical conditions would be asked just like this video which is a clear example of how things should be not only at bondi beach but all popular beaches across the world
Think about it from the girls perspective though, she probably has seizures all the time and just wanted to have a good time at bondi. im an epileptic, not nearly to her degree, but i sympathize with her. and honestly the hospital doesnt do much about a seizure, they more so try to find the cause, which in an epileptic is epilepsy so not much they can do.
Exactly I know what you mean I have epilepsy too. They are absolutely terrifying for me when it happened. The only time anymore that we would go to the hospital for a seizure is if it was not stopping or multiple seizures in a row and the rescue meds are working without meds I used to have status epilepticus and I've had to go to the hospital more than once they almost always happen around my period

Absolutely, just go to hospital if the paramedics feel the need. I wish I had followed this advice a couple years ago when I slipped on ice and struck my head on the sidewalk. But I was embarrassed and refused. I was okay in the end, but should’ve gone with them.
Yup. My dad fell and hit his head a few years back. Put off going despite being told he should and he said everything was fine for a long time and it was a mistake. His balance is unwieldy and he moves like someone who is very elderly. He's 65.
It’s quite normal for that to happen to someone who has seizures, it’s just part of their day to day life. No need to go to the hospital unless she’s been unconscious for over 5 minutes or she’s hurt herself in the process.
I completely get what you are saying but many people with seizures would never leave the hospital if they went there everytime they had a seizure. Most people with seizures are closely followed by neurologists who give them a plan of action that indicates when they need to go to the hospital after a seizure and when it is okay to just self-monitor.

I’ve passed out almost daily for the past few years, I understand her unwillingness to go to a hospital, they tend to not be able to do much after you’ve been diagnosed and medicated, and it just ends up being useless, and wasting a day of your holiday would be even worse. They end up doing all sorts of test and all you get back is what you already know. The only reason for her to go to a hospital in this situation was if she had gotten injured during the seizure or something.
I use to faint quite a bit when i was younger and the only thing the doctors did was give me a heart monitor because there isnt much they can do unless u hit ur head or something like i once did

I have POTS and relate to this a lot. I have it written on my service digs vest to not call 911 if passed out because they’re just so normal for me.

Seizures are some of the scariest things to witness imp, even if you know about the condition and are trained, but it's a loved one you have to deal with and have no acess to emergency gear , like you would have in your job , so even if you knew what you had to do and how to act. That was what bothered me the most when I had to watch and basically do not much , because I was not on the job, without oxygen, suction, an i.v., Diazepam/ Lorazepam, etc, (or whatever the goldstandard is where you are from ) and hope it doesn't go on for longer than 3 mins.
And don't have a very stubborn friend/ partner etc.

I didn't hear anything asked if she's on meds and/or if she's taken them with an established history of seizures. In the US, if a pt isn't AOX4 and GCS of 15, we can't release to family without Medical Director permission. But, here, she seems coherent each time. These are also not grand mal seizures. It almost makes me wonder about pseudo seizures 🤔 Anyway, don't mind me, lol. Typing while thinking out loud 😂

We often get this anti hospital thing from foreigners. Its because in their home country, it can be a can of worms. But though its free for locals, most travelers have or should have insurance and this is what its for. Suffering seizures indicates a serious neurological condition and its best to be checked out. We have the best hospitals in the world. They can detect an underlying condition and treatment.
Steve, she had her med's with her and probably didn't take the med insurance as with the exchange rate it would cost thousands of Rands extra for her.

I know the intentions of the paramedics and lifeguards are good, but people who have chronic illnesses know themselves. They're pretty studied up on their own bodies and as someone who pretty regularly faints, it can be hard to explain to people sometimes that while it absolutely isn't okay and shouldn't be normal, it is normal and I know how to take care of myself.
Im epileptic and with the epilepsy foundation in America. If shes got it this bad she shouldn't be on the beach in the heat especially alone. She could have died. Theres a fine line between being "normal" and living a "normal life" and realizing were not. This isnt supposed to be apart of a lifeguards job description and for every minute hes w/her hes not where hes supposed to be and she obviously isnt to responsible enough to bring her meds w/her
So she should limit her life because she sometimes has seizures? Don’t be ridiculous. Plenty of people with epilepsy live normal lives, they just have the odd seizure. Someone else called the lifeguards, they weren’t necessarily needed and neither was a hospital visit. Not everyone is on medication either, yes, she could’ve died but so could everyone else on the beach that day, she’s no more at risk than anyone else there. Having seizures isn’t a death sentence, nor is it a reason to not go to the beach.
@twinklydoor5752 u obviously dont know statistics. As epileptics we are 4 times more likely to die then the regular population w/ or w/o SUDEP and if we are uncontrolled and have grand mal it can be as high as 60 to 70%
It's a big financial burden if a South African is treated in an overseas hospital. Our rand is worth nothing. ...just saying....when my blood pressure skyrocket in Australia and the doctor said he must call the ambulance I had to beg him just to give me a tablet and a prescription because it would have cost me plenty even with medical overseas insurance.

That she passed out just as paramedics were arriving and her arms didn't drop down makes me think she's taking it. I don't doubt she has seizures but I think she's exploiting her condition for attention.
There are different types and levels of seizures.
It could have been a different type of seizure. Just because you go into a seizure doesn’t mean your arms go floppy. In fact they normally tense up which I think is what’s going on here. I have epilepsy and a friend with POTSZ so I’ve experienced and see this kind of stuff. I may be wrong but that’s what I think might be going on.
