I made this, last night. I am elderly & consider myself a good cook, but I never had a recipe for Goulash. Your Goulash was the BEST I have ever had! I had people staying with us, and we all just loved it! It did make a lot & it would be good for a Church potluck or to take to someone who is not able to cook, etc. It made a LOT & I did not mind at all because I was able to freeze half of it for another day! Thanks so much for your recipe & your good instructions! :)
As a Hungarian, I find this very intriguing! Americans have added lots of twists to the original recipe. I gotta be honest, I was a little scared when you added Italian seasoning and soy sauce, but hey, it looks fine. I will definitely try this.
P.S. Try adding a bit of (smoked?) paprika to it! It's the cornerstone of most Hungarian dishes. It will give the entire dish into a beautiful red color.
Good idea! I’m not Hungarian, but my mom made a simple goulash recipe with egg noodles and chunks of beef. I don’t know how traditional it was, but I loved it!
This is nothing like Hungarian Goulash . it's a completely different dish,
@@lantrick I was thinking: "There's nothing left but the NAME!". I have eaten this hundreds of times by the way. There are different names for it!
Tbh, Goulash is more of a regional dish but the variation that came to America was Hungarian hence why it is called Goulash here. However, since it was a regional dish it changed even more because every state in America has their own variation. The variation in Michigan for example uses red beans
@@TNTspaz And here in Texas, we might use Rotel Tomatoes w/Chilis and chili powder/cajun seasoning instead of Italian seasoning......kind of a "Tex-Mex Goulash.
Hi Larry!
I just made this! I cost me $12 dollars! And as a college student, that's AMAZING
I left out bell pepper, added cheese and It was delicious. Wish I could send a picture.
Stay golden!
ragusajr100 4
Next time add peanut butter, cinnamon, sardines, mayonnaise and diced bananas. It really gives it an extra kick if you know what I mean.
@@liammay7756 Don't forget the apples. Best if yet unripened.
12 dollars......
50 cents elbow macaroni
30 cents 2 big yellow onion
2 euro pound of beef
80 cents 1 big red pepper
40 cents minced tomato can
about 4 euro for me
We called it slumgullion when I was a kid, and I still do. My mother used to add the canned tomato sauce w/mushrooms to it for an added twist. And this is still my #1 favorite meal even though I'm pushing age 59 :)
That's what I remember! It sounds like it might be middle English or something doesn't it? This seems like what you remember about high-school cafeteria food. I would eat some right now! It seems funny to cook the macaroni in it though. Is that how people have been doing it all along?
I made a version of this last night with slight alterations and it turnedout fantastic, did half beef half sausage, used stock instead of water and added beans and mushrooms.
sounds like a winner to me
Band from Louisiana and Alabama poor folks but Rich at heart with love and kindness and compassion for all my grandma always said we should never starve and that was due to goulash thank you for sharing
This was a favorite comfort food where I grew up in Texas and my relatives also called it goulash. In The Navy I had a buddy whose mother was a Hungarian immigrant who made real goulash which is a Hungarian dish made from beef tips with onion and smoked paprika! My buddies from Pennsylvania and New York called that pasta dish Bergoo and their versions were as delicious as what my Texas relatives made so long ago. Thank goodness for great cooks everywhere!
Larry, your goulash vaguely resembles what they used to serve us at school lunches, only 100 times more succulent! It's meatier, richer, and more drool inducing! This is one of those meals that I wish could last forever! I would never want to stop eating it!
+Juanelo1946 Chuckwagon special is what they called it at our school.
+Juanelo1946 The stuff in school was made with mystery meat John!!! LOL Thank you for watching!
Hello! From Kentucky here, I made this with deer burger, added some mozzarella cheese and this is amazing!!! Cooked it in a crock pot, 6$ all I needed was some Italian seasoning and some cheese, I grew and canned all the rest this past year and it was one of the best meals I have ever eaten thank you so much!!
I’ve had the real deal in Budapest Hungary and I’ve had this American version. No matter what either is called it sure is supercalafragilisticexpialadocious!!
I making this tonight! I grew up on this and I love it still. I usually serve the noddles separate only bc I always have leftovers and the noodles get soggy after a few days. Classic dish! Love it 😀
This is what my mother made and I knew it to be Goulash. I recently made it for a church dinner. I called it “Old Fashion American Goulash” it was a hit.
my friend Anne used to make this for me and all the guys at work. She use to put light red kidney beans in her goulash, she was so funny, would raise hell if someone used dark red! This dish was a hit with all of us, and she always had leftovers for lunch...
@James clark Says the trash, good job sir you just won an award for best stupid. o:
@Kevin Chrisner, you were lucky to have a warm meal at work. Did she add the beans in her goulash in place of the pasta or did she use both beans and pasta? Maybe use pasta one wk and beans the next. Thanks Kevin, sounds good to me :)
@@ellamone9998 she would put both, the elbow noodles and light red kidney beans, it was good, im sure the seasoning would make a difference. Whatvdo you seaon with, oregano, basil, stuff like that, or do even seaon?
@Kevin, I use Italian seasoning or just basil oregano, little garlic and parsley. Salt to taste. If you make it like in the video but add beans don't add too much pasta as it will get too starchy unless you boil the pasta separate. I love the flavor combo of this :)
Larry, i think this recipe could have been in your budget meals, feed a family of 4 easily with this, and healthy, looks delicious
I just made my version of this for dinner last night. I love 1 pan meals.
I'm making this again hahaha I made it last week and I couldn't get enough of it I ate it all week long great recipe
Great southern recipe, I add some chopped celery in mine, and cook my pasta separate, I like your way better!
I made this recipe and it was okay the day I fixed it but I'd say you almost need to make this the day before you plan on eating it because the leftovers the next day were REALLY, REALLY GOOD! The flavors bloomed overnight in the fridge! I was very impressed with the leftovers! :)
I agree with this and other similar dishes, they are always better the next day! Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for giving it a try!
Larry
Great video!! My dad use to cook golush all the time when I was a kid. I loved it cause there were always leftovers for days, but as an adult I’m not much of a cooker beyond salads, spaghetti, sandwiches, etc but I’m gonna give this a try!
This absolutely brings back memories of childhood and my mother's goulash! Thanks for sharing!
I have been making your recipe for the past several years. And every time I make it I come here. Thats what I'm making tonight. And its always been called goulash in my family.
Hello! I just made this, and it was the best meal I've had this month so far! Thank you for the recipe, Larry.
I was exhausted from work needed something quick..This was great everyone loved it...Thank you so much.❤️
I grew up on this...CHEAP EASY AND GREAT!!
Guess family have different ways to make this meal. Burger, pasta, tomato, green peas, salt. Basic, but it is fantastic and great on a cold day.
My Aunt is 99 years old,she always added a can of corn to hers, yes and she still cooks it when she gets a taste for some, it's good with garlic bread !!!!!!!!
Uhh....no onion or garlic?
...bruh
I made this tonight for dinner. It was amazing and the whole family really enjoyed it. The only thing I changed was I added chicken broth instead of water. Definitely will be making it again.
Chicken broth will definitely add some flavor! Thanks for watching, glad everyone enjoyed it!
Chicken broth nahhh
I tried it it was freaking awesome best goulash I ever had great recipe!!!
This is the best Goulash recipe I have tried, very very good. I will not be looking for anymore goulash recipes, this one is a keeper!
Did this receipe exactly how you recommend and it was amazing. Thank you Mr. Wolfe
Yep, the soy sauce brings all the flavors together!
Great job, beautiful video
My mom never made this, she stole my childhood from me.
That's why I live in her basement playing with legos and Linkin logs at age 45.
🇮🇪☘️🍺
Yummy. I use beef broth instead of water, and 1 can of rotel, and one can of chopped tomatoes. But yasss this looks absolutely delicious thanks for sharing
Oh yes I need to make some of this asap! Thank you and God bless!
Looks delicious, thank you for sharing it the readers.
Great job on this video. Can't wait to try it. Thank you.👍🇺🇸
This brought back a lot of memories. Thanks.
I made this today, and the whole family loved it. Thank you for sharing.
My grandfather made that but called it American Chop Suey , I think he also added some celery .
I called it homemade hamburger helper
Beefaroni... ;)
I know, I know, that's the brand name of the cheap boxed mix or whatever.
But, that's what we call this kind of thing.
But, yeah, basically the same as American Chop Suey, or American Goulash...
At some point, different people call the basically exact same set of ingredients made much the same way by different names.
I mean, really, if it's macaroni + tomatoes/sauce + ground meat + like onions / peppers / vegetables / garlic, and some italian spices, it's ... the same dish, regardless what you call it, or minor variations (with / without worchestershire sauce, etc.)...
You're a master of comfort food cooking Larry! well done, as always.
+michael landry That explains my weight problem Michael!!! LOL Thank you for watching!!
Just made this for dinner tonight! So delicious and inexpensive! I added some chopped mushrooms and substituted out 2 of the cups of water for beef stock for some extra flavor. This is so good I'll be making it for years to come!
I stumbled across this channel at about 3am when I couldn't sleep and think it's great. I'm definately making this recipe as well as about a dozen others I've seen.
This dish was also one of my favorites as a kid. My three older siblings and I were raised by our mom and maternal grandparents. We had a huge garden, and we would harvest lots of heirloom and paste tomatoes and make fresh sauce to can in mason jars for the winter. Many times, my grandmother would make goulash with lots of fresh tomatoes cut into chunks and let that cook down with everything. During financially lean times, it would be meatless, but added Parmesan cheese and a tossed salad on the side; don't forget the homemade, crusty Italian bread, too; gotta soak up that sauce from the goulash ... haha!
Thanks for taking me down memory lane. I will be making this tonight for my family.
Love this quick n simple delicious goulash making this right know have all the ingredients and was just wondering what to do with my 5 lb of ground beef, hey got 5 hungry teens n hubby so i need something fulfilling and this is it.
Wow, I am making this for Sunday dinner! Thank you so much for sharing! Bless you!
+Desiree Fontana Thank you very much Desiree!!! Please let me know how you like it!
Larry
That looks delicious, Larry! I am going to make this for sure!!! Thank you for sharing your recipe with us!
Looks good! Similar to how my mom used to make it when I was a child. It does taste good on a cold day 👍 🍽
Comfort food at it's finest. (Americanized) I remember my Mom cooking this when I was growing up. Quick, easy & so good! Great job Wolfe! TFS :))
+Kulinary Kreations By Kelly Thank you Kelly!
@@TheWolfePit Your mother did you a disservice by calling this Goulash. I bet she had a bunch of other words that are culturally unacceptable these days also.
looks amazing. thats what im going to cook tonight, and i'll try your recipe.
I love how you left the peppers and onions in bigger pieces - looks even yummier that way and I do love to be able to bite into the bigger pieces. Thank you for yet another delicious recipe and memory from my childhood!!
Larry, finally got around to making this. Your right the soy sauce works. Good recipe.
Wow it's easy, thanks I was thinking of making some, then saw your channel. Thanks.
This is so nice! We make this especially if one of us has a cold or bad headache! Always brings a smile! 🥰
I have not had goulash since I was a teen and I had been craving it for months now. Had never made it before and turned to CZcams to find recipes. Yours was the second one I viewed and it sounded both tasty and basic to make. Dude....I made a batch on May 18th and it was absolutely delicious! Thanks ever so much for the posting and I shall follow your profile and recipes to come. :)
Yum! I haven't had Goulash in...I don't remember how long. Looks perfect. Wish I could sample that for you!
Oh Larry I absolutely love goulash in any way shape or form and yours takes the cake oh Larry I absolutely love goulash in any way shape or form and yours takes the cake I can't wait till my plate arrives

Making this my 2nd time so re-watching 😋😋😋 Thank you!
Thank you so much for posting your recipes. I seem to be finding many of my childhood favorites from your you tube channel.
Well I did it, the only minor variation I did to it is adding a can of chili beans and a can of corn. OMG!!!!!!! We loved it, thanks for the tip!!!!!
I really like the beans and corn addition! Thanks for giving it a try!
***** I think you would like it, it seems you and I agree on what is good. Also, when eating it, sour cream and sharp cheddar sprinkled on top. Fresh French bread and a glass of milk with it!!!!!
kidney beans would rock
nice idea!...."kids! everybody in the pool"
Lois Austin my mom called it slumdog into LOL I add a pack of taco seasoning as well 😋
I grew up with it to ,good stuff
I love this stuff and grew up in it. My Grandma just called it chili mac! She added a bit of celery seed ~ Delicious
It was and still is one of my favorite meals too.
Our Mother use to make this all the time when we were growing up. This makes me think of home and Mama. Thank You. I will have to try this.
My kind of goulosh yum!!!
Adding a can of rotel tomatoes is good also.
Oh my God my mouth is watering! Thank you so much. This is going to be my lunch tomorrow 😊💜
Thx for sharing. Looks delicious
Made this last night, came very tasty and was kid approved. The only thing I may change is may decrease the amount of water and final cooking time after adding the elbows so they don’t come so soft. Also will try low sodium soy sauce, was still a little to salty for my taste but that’s me. Otherwise all the other ingredients made a very tasty dish. Also be advised the amounts listed make allot of food, so if you’re only feeding say 4, you may be able to cut everything in half.
Comfort food, defined!
+SmokeyGoodness Thanks Dan!
+TheWolfePit nice job
Thank you for sharing your recipe it was always my favorite thing that my grandma cooked while I was growing up it brings back a lot of memories
Grandpa always made Goulash like this without the peppers. This is awesome to see again. Thank you.
Larry, Looks good. We add some different spices and make a little sweet in our area. Now I'm hungry :) Have a great day.
+Tess Cooks 4u Thanks Tess!!
What do you add to make it sweet
@@AJ-jf2ui mayonnaise.
@@AJ-jf2ui sugar of course ,just to balance off the bitterness, but you don’t need much
Looks delicious. Very similar to my goulash recipe. Only I add bacon. But I add bacon to pretty much everything. :)
Joe, bacon makes everything better!! LOL Thanks for watching!
💕🥓🥓🥓🥓🥓🥓😊
Thank you for this recipe. I usually use part pasta sauce. I'm making it now. Kind of a stressful day and I am so glad I wanted something easy. Everything is cooking. All I have to do is wait until my son wakes up to add the pasta. He works am shift so I never know if he's going to want to eat when he gets home or after some sleep. Wonderful! And a beautiful day I can now focus on.
Oh man , I can see Sir why you love this dish. it looks fantastic. I will make this exactly as you showed. Thanks very much.
Ahhh.. I always really enjoy these. Not for the video content, entertainment value or the recipe, but rather the opportunity to relish in the wisdom and musings of so many “master chefs” in the comments. Rarely will so many experts gather on one forum and share their expertise. Doesn’t matter if the video portrays professional chefs, who have dedicated their entire life to their art, or simply someone sharing a dish they enjoy making, we will all be warned to NOT be impressed. It’s through the criticism of others, that these keyboard gourmets try to impress us with “their” importance. It’s clear, one need not spend a lifetime honing their skills, in the kitchen. By simply reading the comment section of these videos, one can benefit from the teachings of the TRUE culinary masters who gather here. When they post their wisdom and insight in comments, scribes record every word, so future generations may benefit from their teachings. I for one, am humbled in their presence and thank them all for their guidance. 🙄 With that said, I want to thank you for posting this video, it looks great and I can’t wait to try it !
@ Randy Porter - VERY well said!!
TheWolfePit - By the way, IF, by some chance, the FDA reads the objections, then performs a chemical analysis of the ingredients you suggest and your recipe, THEN submits it to the Hungarian Consulate for a ruling, AND they determine that the dish isn’t EXACTLY “Goulash”, from an ethnic and legal standards..
I don’t give a s*** ! It looks great anyway and I thank you for sharing ! I guess you could call it “Skillet Goulash-me-Not”, or “Bite Me Bordelaise” in response to the objectors ..hee, hee..😁
@@randyporter3491 LOL
😂
Just spent $43.30 on ingredients for this at the grocery store today. I’m going to have to try out some of your budget meals 😂. Thank you for making these videos. I’m terrible at cooking but thanks to this my kids don’t complain anymore
You must be feeding a army
That really looks delicious. Have to try it. Thank you!
Love this recipe !!!! Reminds me of my childhood 😋
What woman that doesn’t ❤️ a man that can cook?
I made this for my family this weekend, and my dad told me his mom used to make this all the time. It brought back memories for him. It was so good! Thank You! :)
Glad everyone enjoyed it!!
Been following your recipe for 4 years ..love this
Love this goulash recipe!! Thank you so much for sharing!
awesomeness!....and a freshly grated Parmesan cheese to top
Yummy!!
Your goulash looks really good. Well done!
+In the Kitchen with Jonny I told you great minds think alike Jonny!! Thanks for watching!
Best Goulash recipe it’s soooo good! Thank you
Making it right now. I already can tell it's gonna be awesome. Love your channel, man.
Mine is literally brown meat, add tomatoes, add pasta (precooked), season with Italian seasoning, bake with American cheese on top...
Just discovered you and have been obsessively watching all your videos!
When I lived i Massachusetts, they called this 'American Chop Suey' believe it or not...here in Ohio it's called 'Johnny Marzetti'.
Exact same recipe!
You can learn something new everyday...Thanks...
It's simple AND easy. What a concept.
I grew up on this. We had some different spices, but it was pretty much the same. I still make this dish. When I take it to work for lunch, I always have to bring extra for my car pool driver. He loves it too.
I tried your version tonight, it has been many years since I have had it, so I gave it a try. The funny part was, the whole time I was cooking it, I could not get that theme music that you play on your vids out of my mind!😂
Had it with some garlic bread, and gave it just a sprinkle of Romano cheese on it. I think I hurt myself, but it hurt so good! Thanks for sharing!
My mom used to make this when me and my brother was kids
i noticed that that too!
It was AMAZING!!!! A million thanks!
Hey Wolf Pit, I just completed your Goulash Recipe and it is Great Thanks for the Idea!!!!
Looks yum and I am doing this tomorrow, but, I recall my mother use to put a can of chili beans in it too.
That sounds good too! Please let me know how you like it!
***** will do!!!!! It's going to be cooling off soon and I will without a doubt be hitting you up for cold weather comfort food. You are the best!!!!!
Looks so good Larry!
+One Kitchen - A Thousand Ideas Thank you Julia!
This was my favorite meal growing up. Thanks for sharing Larry!
So mouth watering, and thank you
More of a chili mac without the chili seasoning. But one great dish when you have kids to feed. I'd add some celery and maybe less bell pepper. As for those people complaining that it's not Hungarian goulash, well it's an American thing and get used to it! When you have 5 kids to feed, stuff like this is reasonably cheap and easy, and kids will eat it.
Wonderful home style cooking. He is so comical too.
Goulash without paprika powder?
I loved goulash as a kid but haven't had any In years this recipe seems straight forward and I will try it. Thanks for sharing.
my family loved it thanks.
