I’m 40 yr contractor in Dallas market. The certainteed version has caused me big problems and even worse, they refuse to replace any of their problems. When I win this in court system I will shout it from the roof top. It seems the problem might be from stacking them in Ennis where produced. They have a sticker saying do not stack? They are stacked for acres and acres. Distributer is same. They stack them too. I have pictures.
Builders I know in my area rarely use three tab shingles anymore. About the only use I see for them is rental houses.They are not an attractive shingle.
The problem with an asphalt shingle, even many of the class-4 is they are susceptible to major hail damage even when less than a year or two old. Products like F-wave synthetic polymer shingles will last so much longer and look a lot better. Upgrading may not be more than the cost of another deductible, or less as those rise and rise.
I'm in Greensboro nc. Just bought house. It's an older property so I'm researching best roof. I'm sold on agriculture shingles and looking to get quote
Most of the cost of a new roof is in the labor. It makes no sense to use cheap underlay or shingle when you realize, saving a few hundred dollars on material will cost you thousands more in the long run. Buy OC duration installed by a prefered contractor using all the OC products (starter, underlay, hip/ridge) and you wont regret it.

Saying what's the best asphalt shingle is like saying what's the best cheap car. Only apx 2% of asphalt shingles are recycled. Go with rubber or metal. Both are more expensive but last triple the time and are better for the environment. If you value one of the biggest investments you have, want to add value to that investment, and value the environment you live in go with metal or rubber it's well worth it. It's just better all around.

@@caroleindfw7741Malarkey is supposed to do well with hail, the rubber causes it to bounce instead of breaking like traditional asphalt shingles.
Doesn't rubber degrade faster in direct sun?
