  • What is Per-VLAN Spanning Tree (PVST), and why do we need it? 🤔
In today's video, I answer this question in less than 5 minutes. I provide a high-level overview of the PVST. I then walk you through a real-world design scenario 🤓
This video is part of my popular Tech Nuggets series. The goal of tech nuggets is to cut to the chase & explain tech concepts in the form of small nuggets that you can consume right before walking into a customer meeting or a job interview 🧳

so in the new cisco switch, you can't use the traditional spanning tree or rapid withour having a single instance per vlan ?

You certainly can. You can run classic Spanning Tree (SPT) or Rapid SPT or MSTP on a Cisco switch. PVST is the default mode, but you have other options available. Hope this helps!
