@@gabrielbjornursidae Lets get this straight, any guitarist can play like toki or skisgaar because it's nothing but brendan small, brendan small is talented, but his art tells us he knows he can tap into his inner toki, and his inner skwisgar thus is battling against himself from being an "idiot savant", and a hard worker, who knows there's much better guitarists out there. Brendan can't improvise, and that is a ridiculous skill unto itself, if brendan went against guthrie govan in a "guitar solo duel" brendan would be lost without hearing the chord progressions ad nauseum, while guthrie govan can probably improvise any western musical chord progression with no problem. and probably play his songs by just hearing them. But i doubt brendan small could play "wonderful slippery thing" or "Waves" without long practice. There's classical guitarists who can hear your music, transcribe it, and play a better melody with one hearing. Again this sounds stupid to argue about, because they aren't the best guitarists only in this fictional world of art. And in real life, being the best guitarist sometimes means that you aren't even known by anyone, and sometimes being the better businessman means getting your name out there and people liking your work enough that you move the genre forward, whatever genre it might be. Thus people calling u the next hendrix, or van halen just because you moved the genre forward, every decade has its greatest guitarists and in the mainstream its starting to mean less and less.

My friend and I watched the show multiple times. As modern metalheads, we were so excited for a whole movie of Metalocalypse. We were severely disappointed, but at least this track slams!
Currently learning this and it's the single hardest piece I've ever done, primarily Skwisgaar's half. Nuts. Love the show and listen to the music to this day. My fingers hurt now. 🤘🤘🤘
"All rights...You seems so nice it's a shame it must go downs this way..." This is Skwisgar literally informing Toki he was about to fulfill the man's wish and murder him with the power of his guitar. Nothing personal, it's just what happens when mortals come to the attention of a rock god. :D
However, he soon realized that he had met his equal and opposite. The god of life was now face-to-face with the god of death. And although life had won, death will always be in his shadow.
I enjoy the symbolism here. Toki is gifted with innate talent, therefor he "flies" through his playing because the passion drives him. Skwisgaar has so much experience that he could "run forever" and "carry the band" with his exceptional skills he's earned through years of diligent practice.
Anybody else notice that at this point in history when toki's hair is flowing in the wind it looks like a hawk flying and skwisgaars hair looks like a horses mane? Just me trying to make connections? Alright.
Only In Metalocalypse Can You Witness A Horse/Man, Bird/Man, Sky Battle With Awesome Guitar Solos And Riffs Along With Magic Harry Potter Like Bolts Flying Past One Another And Originating Out Of The Guitars Themselves. Fucking Hilarious And Sick.
I think it's supposed to be a falcon because of their guitar naming conventions. Skwisgaar has the Snow Horse Explorer here (later he has the Thunder Horse Explorer) and Toki's white flying V Guitar that he had in one episode is called Snow Falcon.
His voice starts to change after the episode where their parents are brought in. Because Toki begins to mentally regress at that point, and his voice changes to match.
I love how when Swissgar turns to a Centaur he looks back and realizes Toki (as a man/falcon) is catching up to him. Swissgar never had to play so hard against someone before.
I'm kinda sad that I feel there will never be a segment like this again. The dynamics of the two, the symbolism, every movement synchronized, the fucking pinkies at 1:56. Absolute masterclass.
I remember when I was a kid, I used to watch almost every cartoon and anime the tv can offer, bugs bunny, martin mystery, family guy, everything. One day I was watching tv but I forgot what show I was watching, this show aired next. I had no idea it was a metal show that's not intended for children. My family didn't mind at all. This episode was the one that played when I first watched it. I got so into the music and I couldn't stop thinking about how awesome it was! I believe this part in particular got me into metal 🤘🔥
I remember when I first heard this back when doom star requiem first aired; the hair on my arms stood straight up. Still get that feeling, especially at 2:15
As awesome as this is on the guitar, the truth is that Hoglan fucking MURDERED those drums in amazing ways to accent the whole thing, do incredible stuff, and STILL somehow be third-fiddle.
My favorite part about this personally is that it proves Toki has been able to hold his own against Swisgaar since day 1. The fact that Toki is "bad" compared to Swisgaar is simply Toki being self conscious and afraid to play to his full potential.
@@raylenn4444 the thing is the Doomstar Requiem wasn't meant to be the end of Metalocalypse.
Please for christ sake let Brendon finish this epic tale.
I know I’m 4 years late, but Galaktikon 2 finished the story. Just listen to the album in vinyl order instead of Spotify/CD order.
And now we’re getting a movie, along with Venture Bros. and Aqua Teen. AS pulled through
@@HC-qc5rp thanks for the good news!👍
How 1:54 transitions into the most delicious baroque metal ive ever heard is just a chef's kiss.
Even the drums blow my mind, not even considering the mighty epicness of the guitars.
Fucking cartoon music, and bolws most bands into tiny pieces of rust...
Brendon (Sp?) Small has been in the Business a LONG time, doing such pieces as the Original Power Rangers opening. He has A LOT of experience doing both live and show tracks.
Mega Mawile "Original Power Rangers opening"?! What?! That was Ron Wasserman, bruh
For me it's funny cause the drummer (i think) was in Death, Fear Factory and some other bands

Posh Toki and Skwisgaar is the greatest thing to ever be animated.
Toki is my favorite. Hes just got a lot of spirit to him thats not all blood and gore. Hes got a soft spot which makes him a little like everyone else :)
I never realized it but the way Skwisgaar starts the duel, he was ready to obliterate Toki way way worse than all the previous guitarists lol.
No mercy for the weak
@@sharkbrother6596 Yet Toki was ready to accept the challenge, though he only managed to come this far.
Dude straight up said, "You seem like a nice kid, shame i have to destroy you now."
Skwisgaar is like a virtuoso with technical skill attained from tons of practice.
Toki is like the kind of lazy, but extremely talented guitar player that doesn't practice, but has a natural flow whenever he picks one up. This duel is like a good representation of Hard Work vs. Natural talent.
That’s a good representation.
I just realized if you look at the ground at the begging you can see his shadow is a hawk
toki has been called "the angel of death"
+themagicwave it has nothing to do with that. His line of guitar is the snow falcon and swis's is the thunderhorse.
+PApa TK aka a Gibson explorer and flying XD
+William Evans Yes, they are just Explorers and Flying V's, but the signature models are called the Snow Falcon and the Thunderhorse.
tonellojohn I know this friend
Toki's shadow is a flacon, and his guitar in the in seasons 3 and 4 is called the snow falcon that's why he turned into a falcon skwisgaar's guitar is called the thunderhorse , that's why he turned into a horse
Nicholas DeMarco the white version is called snowhorse tho, thunderhorse is a different guitar he has.
Well no shit lmao
“Flacon?”
i miss this show :'(
the new season is coming!
where did you get this info WickerMan?
well i guess its not 100% sure but anyway ^^ www.idigitaltimes.com/metalocalypse-season-5-release-date-creator-brendon-small-explains-how-make-it-happen-472614
You can watch metalocalypse for free on the adult swim website
I could've sworn I saw them both smiling at 2:15 when they're flying up together when I first saw this when it came out. It was my favorite detail
The Baroque one is so freaking epic!
+Coroi Radu-Adrian totally didn't expect that part... I died laughing
Okay but my music teacher told me he recognised that part from an actual ballet, anyone know if he’s right and it’s from a real piece?
@@ZaidenTravels Paganini
Baroque era was just metal before electricity was invented.
My friend and I watched the show multiple times. As modern metalheads, we were so excited for a whole movie of Metalocalypse.
We were severely disappointed, but at least this track slams!
Brendan is a huge fan of Rock Opera, can you blame him?
Doomstar Requiem is literally the most satisfying and appropriate presentation of the outcome this show built to and was avaliable to it at the time
Currently learning this and it's the single hardest piece I've ever done, primarily Skwisgaar's half. Nuts. Love the show and listen to the music to this day. My fingers hurt now. 🤘🤘🤘
"All rights...You seems so nice it's a shame it must go downs this way..."
This is Skwisgar literally informing Toki he was about to fulfill the man's wish and murder him with the power of his guitar. Nothing personal, it's just what happens when mortals come to the attention of a rock god. :D
However, he soon realized that he had met his equal and opposite. The god of life was now face-to-face with the god of death. And although life had won, death will always be in his shadow.
1:55 I love how their expressions have that snobbish, elegant look going on XD Was cracking up when I saw that.
Ahh, what a posh analysis, my good gentleman.
I enjoy the symbolism here. Toki is gifted with innate talent, therefor he "flies" through his playing because the passion drives him. Skwisgaar has so much experience that he could "run forever" and "carry the band" with his exceptional skills he's earned through years of diligent practice.
Probably the most epic and most excellent thing you will ever hear and see in your whole life
1:25 that little harmony is so happy and fun it always makes me tear up a little. Can't help but sing with it.
Anybody else notice that at this point in history when toki's hair is flowing in the wind it looks like a hawk flying and skwisgaars hair looks like a horses mane? Just me trying to make connections? Alright.
dat wuz le point
Look at Toki's shadow at the very beginning when he enters. :D
Angel of death
John InEnglish Monarch to the kingdom of the deeeaads
The part after the classical bit, where they play in the clouds, is just amazing. The harmonies make my ears weep
Skwisgar Skwigelf is taller than a tree.
But Toki Wartooth is definitely not a bumblebee.
metalocalypse is a western anime about guitars tbh lmao
This ams amazings guitar playings
Yeeah, I thinks this ams the amazings guitar playings too!
John L Rice this guitar playing makes all the others guitars players look like dildos
Danny Polanco This guitars is exactly what I most can't the least.
guitars likes whats is there more music.
Only In Metalocalypse Can You Witness A Horse/Man, Bird/Man, Sky Battle With Awesome Guitar Solos And Riffs Along With Magic Harry Potter Like Bolts Flying Past One Another And Originating Out Of The Guitars Themselves. Fucking Hilarious And Sick.
that is the most true comment ive seen in forever. haha
WHY DO YOU CAPITALIZE EVERY WORD?
don't forget the victorian setup with a blend of classical/neoclassical, brilliance at it's finest!
Reverend Anton I'm gonna take a guess and say that he was using an iphone with the option to automatically capitalize or something like that.
Such an incredible piece of writing, not even to mention the actual playing
1:47 The note choice is so damn good.
I absolutely love how at his intro he could've just said "anyway" and continue to rhyme but they went with "Anyhow"
I only just noticed this but Toki's shadow is literally a hawk at the start of this scene!
I think it's supposed to be a falcon because of their guitar naming conventions. Skwisgaar has the Snow Horse Explorer here (later he has the Thunder Horse Explorer) and Toki's white flying V Guitar that he had in one episode is called Snow Falcon.
@@TritonGalaktikon I'm not good at identifying birds XD
My favourite part os the transition from Baroque to Power Metal.
Mine too!
his voice is deeper as a younger adult then when he's older just keep that in mind
His voice starts to change after the episode where their parents are brought in. Because Toki begins to mentally regress at that point, and his voice changes to match.
The way the guitars are harmonizing with each other is blowing my mind
I love how when Swissgar turns to a Centaur he looks back and realizes Toki (as a man/falcon) is catching up to him. Swissgar never had to play so hard against someone before.
What an earnest, young gentleman. I hope he makes it big in the band
I'm kinda sad that I feel there will never be a segment like this again. The dynamics of the two, the symbolism, every movement synchronized, the fucking pinkies at 1:56. Absolute masterclass.
they sound so good together its crazy...
Still get that feeling, especially at 2:15
I love that back and forth at 2:14, get my blood pumping
A testament to skill vs talent, but a very well fought duel.
That pretty much sums up power metal
thank you :)
Well...that, and 6 hours a day practices, understanding of pitch, rhythm, harmony and melody...composition and educated improvisation. More or less...
@@HexenStar and musics dyslexkia
@@HexenStar if it was progressive add four hours to that and blistered fingers
Gotta love how Toki being Norweigian has a Power Metal singing voice.

Toki is just adorable.
Soooo many things I have to go back and watch now. GG Josh.
2:23 oh man, sends chills down my spine everytime.
They played this on the BabyKlok tour! Hearing it live was 🔥🔥🔥
It hurts so many years later knowing how this duel never resumed. It ended so anticlimactically.
New movie is in preproduction
This is the greatest battle ever
still gives me goosebumps :D
This is basically Goku vs. Vegeta.
Except not as gay and metal af
This is not Goku level.
This is Saitama level.
TheSuperMerc No this is like Skwisgaar vs. Toki
@@Shimamon27 This isnt Saitama level
This is Gold Experience Requiem level.
TheSuperMerc ...pretty much!
As awesome as this is on the guitar, the truth is that Hoglan fucking MURDERED those drums in amazing ways to accent the whole thing, do incredible stuff, and STILL somehow be third-fiddle.
Can we all take a beat to acknowledge a true musical god? Mr. Small we salute you.
When it cuts from a big laser battle to a gentle Victorian era scene gets me every time. lol
Everyone gangster until the guitars start arguing with eachother
2023! still listening this as an ultimate fuel!
I love how confident Toki’s face gets as he realizes he’s keeping up and matching Skwisgaar’s licks riff for riff.
My favorite thing about this is they animated the hand positions correctly and I love it
Baroque Metal... that's Brutal
My favorite part about this personally is that it proves Toki has been able to hold his own against Swisgaar since day 1. The fact that Toki is "bad" compared to Swisgaar is simply Toki being self conscious and afraid to play to his full potential.

I miss this show. I want more, so badly. With more artists of course because the concept of Metalocalypse is purely genius.
All good things must end before they start to rot & become bad.
Think of star wars & co to see it.
Don't be greedy, accept the end of metalocalypse.
@@raylenn4444 I will agree
@@raylenn4444 the thing is the Doomstar Requiem wasn't meant to be the end of Metalocalypse. Brendon Small (show creator, Voice of most of the main cast, etc) was gonna try to finish the series with a season 5 and was willing to crowd fund it if he had to but Adult Swim didn't allow it. Brendon had a ending planned but wasn't able to complete it, so I don't think that "rot" would happen. Luckily AS announced earlier this year they will allow Brendon to end the series with a movie.
when they go classical is when it did it for me
