  • The NBA finished unveiling their list of the 75 greatest players in league history and Kevin Durant and James Harden were both included, but their teammate Kyrie Irving was not. Andre Iguodala wasn’t a fan of that decision and took to Twitter to post 'So y’all saying Kyrie Irving ain’t top 75? I agree… he's top 20 at least'. Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe share their thoughts on the list and whether Kyrie was snubbed.

The obvious ones Wilt, Kareem, Bill Russell, and Shaq. Ewing had a longer peak, David Robinson, Moses Malone, Alonzo Mourning, Hakeem Olajuwan, Dan Issel, Dikembe Mutombo (maybe not in scoring, but blocks and rebounding) all had better careers. Looking at the all time stats list Dwight Howard isn't even in the top 10 in any of them. At least one if not multiple are in the top 10 for points, total rebounds, assists, steals, blocks. You're going to tell me that he deserves to be a top 75 player when he has now played in the league 17 years and isn't even in the top 10 in any category that multiple of these centers I named are? He is easily the most skilled player in the league; best ball handler, one of the best and most efficient shot creators, incredible ball passing, incredible finishing at the rim, and great one on one defender. Dwight should be in there instead of AD. Dwight was the best big man in his peak years. In 2008-2009 season, he was the league leader in rebounds and blocks while averaging 20 ppg. He was the DPOY and an mvp candidate that season. He also led orlando to the finals after beating lebron's cavs.

    • @basketballhistory6151
      @basketballhistory6151 Před 2 lety +27

Dwight was mentioned for half a decade as a candidate for "if you had a choice to build a team around any one player, who would it be?". For half a decade, or more. Add in a long post-prime career in which he still added a championship and stats, there's no way he should have been left off. 3 time dpoy, led leagues in rebounds, blocks, led a lackluster team past lebron.. the only explanation i have is he is a victim of playing in a time that big men were being valued less, and Lebron-Kobe-Dirk-Duncan-Wade were all regarded as better overall players during his peak, for the most part, and he got less attention as a game changing superstar.

Howard has no real offensive game to speak of.. He just wanted to dunk the ball.. No post moves or jump shot.. I think if you’re gonna compare Reggie and Dwight the biggest question I can ask is who was feared more. I think overall teams feared Indiana in playoff series, but individually Dwight Howard was feared more in my mind. Dwight Howard was a matchup nightmare in that five or six year stretch. It’s hard for me to put him in front of Reggie though simply bc he was one of the best marksman of all time. He was the definition of a clutch 3 pt shooter. At the end of the day(though I’m sure players get agitated) it’s just a list.

As others have said, Kyrie is constantly prioritizing other aspects besides basketball. Depending on how this year goes, he might not even play in a single game. Couple that he is getting injured a lot so no, despite his "potential" to be a top 75 player, he doesn't play enough to actually warrant him getting on that list.

    Talent-wise, Kyrie is probably top 10 all-time:
    - True ARTIST with the basketball
    - Incredibly quick
    - Unpredictable, keeps changing pace
    - Good passer, not a turnover machine
    - Might have the best handles in history
    - Can turn into an unstoppable scorer
    - Shot-maker from anywhere, including very tough shots
    - Clutch
    - Infinite bag, can finish in every way
    - Defensively quick hands & feet, high IQ, physical
Despite all that, Kyrie is barely top 75. Why? Time has shown he ain't reliable. It's always something : injured, unhappy or simply his mind clearly not on basketball. Doesn't care enough about playing and winning. Barely top 75.

      .
Nash was a 2x mvp and top 10 in assists, so he makes it by default (despite that many feel he didn’t deserve both mvps, but that’s a separate argument).

You might be right about Lillard, Allen, and Reggie. It seems they gained votes based on respect and not necessarily accomplishments. However, other than Dwight there’s no one else who should’ve made it over them, so two of the three would’ve gotten in either way.
