Hey, thanks so much! I was about to spend a ton of money and I think it's my sprinter system. I was thrown off as my meter is completely digital. Many thanks I may have saved myself a lot of money!

The idiot people working on our back yard shut off the water and forgot to turn it back on when they went home. Admittedly ignorant of plumbing, I went around the entire house in the rain searching for the valve. I gave up and decided to google/youtube it, and came across your video and easily located the water valve in the front of the house near my front door, so THANK YOU!

I just wanted to confirm this was the water shut off to the whole house before I touched the valve (as I only need to shut it off because of leaking valves lol). Useful video nonetheless, I learned something new

In the Mid-Atlantic region of the USA, we have our home side shutoff under the home in a crawlspace or basement. Question: Is it smart to shut off the water at the street when going on a longer vacation or under the home to prevent water leaks in the home?

Just to clarify, the valve on the street is the main valve? what is the valve near the garden hose? When would I shut off one versus the other?

Very helpful in finding the valve at the street. My meter is completely buried with excess dirt and vegetation in the bottom of the box - hard to find the valve.

Mine is in my basement. So are most people I know. I have a round spigot type and I turned it "off' and the water wouldn't shut off. I turn it the other way & still water would not shut off. It's the only valve I seen on any of the pipes. :(

Hi, can you please tell me why when we turned the valve off, what could be the problem if there is still water coming into the house? It's gone from regular flow to a very low flow. Thank you.

I know this answer is six years later but there will be residual water left in your system after you shut off water so that is normal to have some but it's not normal if it continues flowing for really long time.

My local water company charges $75 to come out to shut off and turn on water. My valve is unaccessible.

I watched this video to figure it out, I woke up in the morning with a loud sound I thought was coming from air conditioning vents. I found out how to stop the water there's 2 ways.. it was underneath trailer ( middle) where the living room/kitchen is. There was a white stick with a stopper but it broke (like the cement glue blasted off.) Then we found underground box next to the outside of the trailer not so far from the one underneath. We stopped it but wasn't sure if it stopped water for everyone else in the trailer park or just us. Eventually, the landlord got maintenance to fix the water tube that broke from underneath.

I'd imagine you could leave it off indefinitely if you wanted to. But probably best to ask your water company. I know ow electrical companies force people to have a minimum usage so maybe water companies do to.

THANK YOU! Your video has helped immensely. But now that I know how find my water meter and leak indicator, I am left with a mystery: Why is my leak indicator completely stationary (I.e. no water flowing) but my bathtub faucet is leaking roughly a gallon every other hour? I hope that you, or an educated person in the posts, can help me. I notice this post is t5 years old. Hope you are still monitoring comments. Thanks again.

As meters age their accuracy will decrease. In this case you could have an older meter that will no longer detect water moving through at such a slow rate. This is why water utilities have a meter replacement program. It helps combat water loss. If you were to increase the flow by turning on the faucet, I am sure the leak detector will move.

To locate your water shut off valve, per this video - step 1: locate your water shut off valve. Step 2: shut it off. Fucking thanks dude. At least this video advertises NOT to use your company. Jesus.
