Day 44 of 100 Days of Tangling - Aspen

Please note that these videos are twice the speed of my normal tangling process. Take your time and pause the recording if you decide to tangle along.
Supplies: 2-inch square paper tile (I'm using Kraftkarton by Folia to cut these from), Micron PN pen (sometimes Micron Graphic 1, too), Faber-Castell’s Pitt Graphite Matt, General’s Charcoal White, white Gelly Roll by Sakura, and blending stumps.
Music: Hope by Keith Kenniff.

I'm still stuck on how they started the first square so perfectly.

I’m stuck on how imperfect it was as I draw 1/2” scale technical drawings every day for a living. However, I had a very awakening moment once the shading started as it eased my mind. This is art, not scale drawing. I lack this free hand skill.
Use your little finger along the edge to stabilize the placement of the pencil tip$💝😎
If I have a steady hands like this man have you would never see me here watching CZcams for 10 hours a day

What anyone needs to understand is that it takes probably hundreds of times to perfect one drawing. I think most people go through drawing phase in school or otherwise. Some like to draw faces, and some draw shapes like these. It won’t just look good if you start drawing but never drew before. But trust me if you stick with it it’ll get better and better.
A great way to relax or focus. Yes, you can think about a problem while drawing and it will get closer to solving while in this drawing zone. It also helps if you draw on paper that is already printed with squares. It’s not this channel’s approach, but I found it helps with square shapes looking more even. Good luck
Those are all great observations and tips! 👍🏻 I’m not using grid paper, a ruler or other tools because one of the Zentangle’s traits is to embrace the imperfections. 😊 But grids or a dotted grid might be of a great help for a beginner.

My favorite part is when the author starts joining lines and filling small triangles with the blue micro marker. THAT TURNS all small mistakes into the main effect which accomplishes the 3D illusion.
I wonder how such processes could be found elsewhere and not just in Art.

I have very limited drawing skills, but I've done a lot with wood. The design uses a square outer frame, an inner square with 4 squares removed, and 10 thin strips.
The inner square would need to be reinforced somehow because it has members that go against the grain. I am not sure how to do that, but it sounds hard. I would probably replace the single square piece with six strips of wood.
The strips could be soaked in hot water and then woven into the pattern. Then soaked again. Then pulled taught. Repeat as needed. Then the pattern could be clamped at the edges and allowed to slowly dry.
Once dried it could be mounted in an outer square made of oak.
Making this out of strips of veneer, cane, or bamboo would probably take less than 10 hours of work spread out over two weeks. There would be quite a few steps that would involve letting the work soak or dry overnight.
The actual 3d nature of the final piece would make up for my reluctance to learn how to draw realistic shading.
Woodwork certainly requires more skill and time than this. 😊 I often think about building 3D models to observe the shading. ✨

@@ZenLinea It reminds me of the brilliant Sebastian Lightfoot and a track off his Fatamorgana 2 Album..a particular track called " Sierra Nevada" and another track off Fatamorgana 3 called "Himalaya". Oh I’ll need to look into that. I am not a native speaker. But perhaps it’s because there is a time-lapse setting in the Photo app, that we use when we want to make sped-up videos. I film a normal video and use an app to increaase the playback speed. There’s no lapse 😁
