New year is different all over the Netherlands, this year ir was no good, with the Corona, and no fireworks... normally you go visit all your neighbours etc..
the fireworks are there to scare the bad luck away ;)

あけましておめでとう (Akemashite omedeto), Jin-kun. It's so understandable that you don't think much of the Dutch way of celebrating New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. During these days we don't take part in activities with a deeper cultural, religious or spiritual meaning, like you use to do in Japan. Usually we spend the last hours of the last day of the year with family and friends. Tasty food and snacks, beer, wine and bubbles, oliebollen and fireworks are the traditional treats on New Year's Eve. As for 'Oliebollen' , here's a link for you which leads you to a Wikipedia page where you can read about this typical 'New Year' s Eve snack', in Japanese .) SInce only a very small minority of the Dutch population practices Buddhism and/or Shintoism, there are no (or hardly any ?) temples and shrines in The Netherlands. So you have no place to go for 初詣 (hatsumoude) and おみくじ (omikuji). (My friend from Tokyo used to go to the Asakusa Temple and always drew an omikuji for me. if the fortune paper predicted 'luck' for me, he would send it to me in an envelope, so i could keep in in my wallet 😀) You probably also miss the special Japanese New Year dishes; Mochi, or zouni. Or going to a bounenkai. I learned from your video that you're going back to Japan, this year. So for you New Year 2022 in Japan is something to look forward to. @@jinfromjapan I never took the おみくじ prediction for serious, of course, but it's like with the fortune cookie at the Chinese restaurant; I always hope that it's a positive message 😄
Deeper oil, more oil, they can't turn then self if it's to shallow..
We don't have a special reason as to why we eat oliebollen :( That's why i like the Japanese culture more. You guys have beautiful meanings for certain things. I wish my country had that too. Haha and you are right オランダ人はバカです. I also don't like new year here because it can be dangerous to walk outside. I really would like to visit Japan during new year. In 2019 i went to a Japanese language school in Japan, Shibuya and i loved it there. I want to go back so maybe next time when it's new year.
New Year in Japan is pretty amazing! I had not realised it till I came here. We eat some certain foods, watch TV shows and go to a temple to pray. It is very calm, but the vibe is very nice. You feel like you are literally having New Year!
