At the end of the day it is just a kid's film (just one with a very passionate adult fanbase), but at least now it seems like it will be more bearable for the parents in the audience too
A very rare accomplishment has been achieved today that we must acknowledge: A movie, after pissing off the fans, has actually managed to WIN THE FANDOM BACK!
I love the new Sonic design. The effect of making the eyes rounder makes Sonic look more friendly. His nose is also smaller in the new look. In particular trailer images, the lighting has also been changed to make Sonic brighter over all. Sonic has now been given gloves. It's the way the character has been seen in video games and animated series so we don’t have to see his 5 human-like fingers anymore like they did in the first trailer. Sonic’s legs aren't quite as long as the first one, and he’s no longer wearing standard running shoes, which helps him look more like an animated character and less like a person.
Sonic: Fixes it’s CGI to make him look accurate and good Cats: Keeps the CGI creepy and terrifying that even furries displease. Looking forward to your Mandalorian reaction!
The Cats movie is supposed to look like the Broadway show. It's supposed to look like people in costume, not cartoon cat characters. They're staying true to the source material. The first Sonic movie trailer was bad because it strayed too far from the source material.
The fact that paramount swallowed their pride to redo the design is enough reason to give the film a watch... Of course, it could also be a evil marketing scheme. They probably had both designs from the get-go. Seems suspiciously fast for them to redo the design through the whole movie.
Take this with a grain of salt, but they did say that they had made Sonic on an animation rig, as an animator what this means is that all they had to do was create a new animated design and hook it up to the rig that they had, likely give a few touchups to his animated movements, and then re-render the scenes he was in to fix it up. Now still is this possibility that they had planned a marketing ploy for a bad Sonic from the get-go, but recreating the scenes off of an animation rig wouldn't be too hard or time consuming.
One super big thing you should keep in mind is, a finished trailer does not equal a finished movie. There is a high chance they are still working on the movie. And that also means the first trailer was also made with a not fully done movie, so less to change.
As a totally non-furry, non-obsessed fangirl who had a massive collection of the Sonic comics as a kid, I was more entertained by JOHN'S REACTIONS than by the trailer itself! ✌😏💜
It was the coolest Sonic the Hedgehog trailer ever! I'm stoked to see that movie. Paramount and Sega done a marvelous job for redesigning Sonic in a much better character design. I'm gonna see it next February. Also playing classic Sonic games as a countdown for that flick. I hope they'll make a much better animated series with Sally, Amy, Tails, Rotor, Dulcy, Rotor, the Chaotix gang, Knuckles and many few characters in the Sonic universe. everyone is talking about how great it looks by comparison to the original design.. but I don't think the public really understands how much time and energy it took for those artists to go back to square one and re-create an ENTIRE character??? I don't think this has ever been done before??
Marketing Strategy, let’s take the nostalgia of the Sonic fans, let’s ruin it on a single trailer, then make them Pray for a change, we release the real trailer, and they will think we did them a favor. That would explain a lot of the fast release of the design changes.

To be honest, I respect the hell out of this director. Not only did he ACTUALLY listen to the community unlike most directors who don’t give a shit about what people say, he apologized for it on Twitter, pushed the movie back to 2020 ANNND he managed to pour love into everyone’s favorite hedgehog and he looks WAYYYYYY BETTER ❤️. At this point I forgive him for that other mess of a trailer, because he deserves it! A movie director actually LISTENED and APOLOGIZED. I’m definitely showing him love by seeing it.
Hear my words we will soon get a movie about fox fighting on earth with an end credit scene of Samus who we won’t see for a couple of movies next Kirby causes havoc fighting Mario and Luigi over a dispute that happened years ago and in ten or so years we get super smash bros

This trailer was a while lot better than the trailer they released months ago. Wow big difference it made for Sonic the Hedgehog. The game backdrop with the rings he creates to make doorways as well as the sound effects are just perfect. It would have been nice had Jaleel White reprised his role from the animated show but the new voice actor is bring his take and is great with all the quick humor.
As a mom who still owns the original Sega Genesis and Every Sonic game for it and for Sega CD and the Dreamcast etc... with an 11 year old son, we are SUPER EXCITED about this redesign!

See this much better! Classic Sega Sonic , I love that they used the green hills zone theme from the game. This film has serious potential to be an awesome video game film.
Interesting fact here, I read that James Marsden wasn't the original choice to be in the Sonic movie, the original choice was Paul Rudd. Unfortunately, Paul Rudd had to turn it down due to filming Avengers: Endgame.
They didn't just redesign Sonic they made him more animated than he was in the first trailer. His movements looked really weird but this is so much better.
Agree with the kudos to the VFX artists. Though I feel I should point out that this is not the first time Paramount had to re-design a character due to audience backlash. It actually happened at least twice before. One was during the first Transformers movie where they redesigned Megatron's face because their original design looked too different from source material. Another was with Monster Truck where the original design for the monster was so scary that children in the test audience cried. So they probably had some practice

I was entertained by Detective Pikachu and I suspect that I will feel the same way about this movie. Nothing groundbreaking, but a good movie.
